When I interviewed the CT group, Josh in particular did NOT mince words about the subject.

I love that on this holiday I pretend like I don't actually watch MST3K pretty much most other days of the year.

Ah ok they aren't actually playing Pod People. Pumaman is on right now. Wow this movie is silly.

©Oz Quiz© (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 28 November 2014 02:19 (nine years ago) link

They played Pod People earlier, we watched about half of it before realizing we'd just watched it like six months ago and should save our marathon energy for fresh meat. But man, what a classic... I'm sure I've quoted half the lines on this thread at some point.

Hah, next year, I will be thankful if one of the Mike episodes from S6 airs.

Eric H., Friday, 28 November 2014 04:22 (nine years ago) link

They're re-running it at pluto.tv, channel 400. Which is a website that shows TV apparently.

I got most of my extended family to watch Laserblast! with me. That was fun for me.

That's a quick way to find out who's worth hanging out with in a family.

two months pass...

you know one area where i actually would be kinda okay with them making more of this show? Shorts! Soooo much alarming, dopey, doublethinky public-domain stuff that would be way more easily identified and found these days, I think. Also maybe suitable for today's low-attention-span viewer, or something like that. Anyway, the shorts are some of my all-time favorite bits (except when they're doing serials, which are usually just kinda baffling).

"We leave you with this question, if you enjoyed "Catching Trouble" in any way, there's something wrong with you."

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 28 February 2015 19:51 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, it might be a tall order for them to get the right tone with full-length movies in this era of Birdemic and Sharknado. But shorts will always work.

Eric H., Saturday, 28 February 2015 21:26 (nine years ago) link

They should do Kony 2012

There is something magic about finding an MST3K short you haven't seen before. "Days Of Our Years" is my current favourite - some inspired riffing here.

Ack, no! Sci-Fi era shorts! *makes the sign of the cross with index fingers and hisses*

Sci-Fi era was pretty dope

ancient texts, things that can't be pre-dated (President Keyes), Sunday, 1 March 2015 03:02 (nine years ago) link

Actually, I like all of the Sci-Fi shorts quite well excepting "Spring Fever." Why? Because SHUT THE HOLY FUCK UP COILY!!!!!!!!

Eric H., Sunday, 1 March 2015 04:13 (nine years ago) link

NO SPRINGS HAHA

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 1 March 2015 04:31 (nine years ago) link

I did always feel like they kinda missed a lot of opportunities with Coily, but maybe that's because I'd seen the short itself before. Though I do love "So he waits all eternity for someone to say this one thing and then backs down almost immediately?"

Recent favorite shorts (on top of the obvious holy duo of "Mr. B Natural" and "Hired!")

Johnny At The Fair - "Johnny feels dark hands pressing him onward; the voices in his head get meaner."
Using Your Voice - "Carlessness?! Oh!" "And get a good wire rack."
Date With Your Family - "Father feigns eating, draws Junior out, then disowns him!"

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 1 March 2015 04:53 (nine years ago) link

My top 10 shorts:

Catching Trouble
The Home Economics Story
Mr. B Natural
Junior Rodeo Daredevils
Circus on Ice
Hired!
Last Clear Chance
Design for Dreaming
Why Study the Industrial Arts?
The Chicken of Tomorrow

Eric H., Sunday, 1 March 2015 05:02 (nine years ago) link

Also, my god, is Last Clear Chance dark!

Eric H., Sunday, 1 March 2015 05:02 (nine years ago) link

"Progress Island USA."

"Look, just come here!"

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 1 March 2015 14:27 (nine years ago) link

I try to imagine some kind of spring company lobbyist pushing to get a spring awareness video funded, so kids out there can stop taking springs for granted, and inspire some extra spring sales in the process. Maybe spring companies were ready to push a new direct to consumer box of "back-up springs" and needed some supplemental material to try to prompt the new market as part of a campaign. Maybe during presentations to the spring company ceos they had a prototype glass box with a spring in it that you can break during an emergency, to be wall mounted next to the fire extinguisher.
