arrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh SO ANGRY! For a while I had only 1 bedside outlet to share between my lamp and my phone charger, and this was HELL. It would have been quicker to just get out of bed and turn on the overhead light but NO THEN THE FUCKING PLUG WINS

The top pin on my three pin plug for my phone charger folds down on a pointless hinge mechanism. This makes it almost impossible to use in the dark. The pin moves slightly down of its on volition and the pins then don't line up with the holes.

I get a strange feeling of victory when I manage to shock myself by touching the prongs on a plug when I'm plugging something in, sight unseen. It's a victory tingle.

there's a recessed trashcan in the wall under the papertowel dispenser and a freestanding trashcan by the door
there's always a paper towel on the floor by one trashcan or the other & it makes me INSANE

Woke up angry in the most irrational way. I had a dream I was at the doctor and somebody took the turkey leg and thigh I'd brought and roasted, leaving me with a semi-cooked lump of gristly beef. I got so upset that I said unforgivable things to my closest friends. I woke up growling and grinding my teeth and I still feel angry :(
― Je55e, Saturday, 24 January 2015 16:56 (nine years ago) link
this is a really irrational one, but i lurk on some weight-loss message boards and everyone there talks about their "journey," which i find off-putting for reasons i can't articulate. i don't know whether it's because it's sort of a new-age cliche, or because it seems a little melodramatic to describe shedding some pounds in the same language as going on an epic trip around the globe. but weight loss is a very emotional process and it changes your life for sure. so i feel like an asshole for wanting people to "use other words please."
― no fucks given or implied (get bent), Sunday, 25 January 2015 00:41 (nine years ago) link
Ha, totally with you on that one. But I don't like 'journey' even to describe life's big upheavals. The happy-balanced-eating board I'm on tends to talk in 'process' terms and I like that. They are also quick to admit being put off by anyone who uses what they call 'woo'. There's a hell of a lot of it about when people talk about fat loss on the internet.
― ljubljana, Sunday, 25 January 2015 02:43 (nine years ago) link
also, "journey" implies an endpoint and if you struggle with your weight, there really is no endpoint in your lifetime. you can't take a journey on a treadmill.
― no fucks given or implied (get bent), Sunday, 25 January 2015 02:53 (nine years ago) link
They get around that by talking about 'evolving journeys', 'continuing journeys', etc. If you see life as a journey, I guess perspectives on weight, food, movement and so on are just a sub-narrative of your journey.

the tube-style packaging for shampoo where the lid is on the bottom -- the lid ends up filling with water while it's in the shower caddy so the next time I go to use it, cold water comes out when I open the cap and uuuuuuuuuuuugh
i swear I'll never buy that kind of packaging again but inevitably once a year I forget :(

that's really stupid, with that design, water should drip around the cap. i've used tons of those bottom-cap tubes in the bathroom and never had that problem

There are a number of shampoos and face and body washes that are packaged that way and they're terrible. It's not just the cold water dripping out, but they also grow black mold. They're disgusting.
VG, I think you've posted about your IA about product design before and I think we could base a FAP around the topic. Tonight I bought Tums antacid mints with a foil seal without a tab to remove it and having to use my knuckle to unseal it bugged the shit out of me.

Not having the facility to lay fabric out at full length so I didn't see that if I changed what I was laying out I could have had jeans as well as a jacket out of the length. So I now have a piece i could have substituted another fabric for cut out of this one fabric and have still to cut something I really have to use this fabric for out of the area i could have cut the jeans from.I could have cut it from the area I used for the thing I should have substituted/gone int the contrast fabric for. & this thing won't look good with this other piece cut out of the contrast, since it looks like cartoon flowers and would have looked good for the smaller area this is covering not the larger area that has to be covered. - the inner rather than the outer sleeve.Maybe it will teach me better to think through the possibilities of laying out instead of cutting when I'm half ready but is a major drag.
― Stevolende, Sunday, 25 January 2015 19:16 (nine years ago) link
that was always my biggest failing in dressmaking. i never economized the space of the fabric well enough. it's hard!!
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 25 January 2015 21:01 (nine years ago) link
The further drag for me is that it seems most of the fabric I'm buying stops being sold a few months later. maybe people are just selling off one offs or something. So I can't go back and buy more of either of the striped drills that I have lengths of.
I'm hoping that there might just be enough to cut all 3 items from the bottom section, front and back trouser legs and the sleeve. Will see but I don't think it will stretch. I just wasn't thinking there was going to be that length of material left. Plus it had gone off the edge of the table so I wasn't seeing what was there.Better organisation needed I think.
Will hopefully mean judging by what i've used and have left that I might get a different jacket out of the other length of striped drill I have. Was half thinking of making that into another pair of jeans since one of the first ones I made came from it earlier. & wanted to do another pair now I have more practise.
