Slippers that advertise that you can wear them outside. That's the whole point of slippers - shoes that you don't wear outside so you don't get outside grossness inside your house.

i hate hate hate having to be the guardian of some stranger's shit. why are you putting the onus on a total stranger to watch your $1500 laptop or your purse with all your cash, cards, and electronics? why are you putting your trust into that person?

At my wife's employer's holiday party for some reason I became the default guy to watch women's purses. Someone would throw their clutch at me and sashay off to the dance floor and I'd just have to be like "guess I'm hanging out at the table through Blurred Lines, All About the Bass, and Uptown Funk".

i actually did abandon some guy's stuff at penn station because my train was arriving. i had told him i didn't want to watch his bags but he begged and i reluctantly said okay. then he took off for 25 minutes. sorry not sorry dude, hope nothing got stolen (although if it did it would teach him a lesson).

another food IA: when people freak out about "preservatives" and "processed" food and say stuff like "don't eat anything with ingredients you can't pronounce."
a) enjoy throwing out a third of your groceries, bruh. or going to the store every day so you can keep getting new minimally processed, preservative-free food that you're under pressure to consume during the three-day window that it's still fresh and appealing. sure, you can freeze it, but some foods don't freeze as well as others and a lot of it ends up tasting like freezer burn if you don't vacuum-seal it in thick plastic.b) there's a lot of stuff out there with long scientific names (and i can even pronounce some of them). what is the plant species of that fruit you're eating?c) unless your doctor (and i mean *your* doctor, not some quack on the internet) tells you to watch out for certain foods because of sodium or possible carcinogens, you're most likely going to be all right. you're going to get run over by a drunk driver before you die from eating a piece of cured meat with nitrates/nitrites.d) people have been preserving and processing food in some way since the dawn of humankind. if anything, our collective life span has only increased.
(i'm on the fence about GMOs though. i think they can be used for good but not while monsanto's running the world. that's more about corporate evil than about health concerns though.)

i got IA this morning at an intersection when i arrived at the same time as another driver and i waved them to go, and then they wouldn't go but instead did that thing where they waved for ME to go. i swear 80% of the time when i motion for the other driver to go first they refuse. it's not even them being polite, it's something else. someone waves for me to go, i just do it. idgi.

this happens with walking as well. i'm about to cross the street and a car is waiting to go, i motion them ahead and they'd apparently rather wait for me to cross the street in front of them. idk

― LIKE If you are against racism (omar little), Thursday, 29 January 2015 01:29 (nine years ago) link
sometimes a car is nearing the intersection and i'm really not sure it's going to stop -- i don't trust drivers to stop at reds even though it's the law. and sometimes they're at a full stop and if i need to cross i worry they're going to start up again and run me over. i guess i'm just neurotic.

every green light i drive thru now i do a quick check left and right just in case.
we live at an intersection where drivers will simply fly down the hill and go right through the stop sign, sometimes going about 70 mph. we're on a side street that people like to use as a shortcut to get around a really annoying stoplight so maybe that's it.

When you're walking down a hallway or other public space and there's a person standing in your way with their back to you, talking on the phone or w/e, so you move to your left to go around them, and without looking they somehow instinctively do a 90-degree spin move and end up walking right into you.

Get into the elevator and move to the back, two guys get on behind me, move to either side, and start TALKING AT EACH OTHER right across me in LOUD BRO VOICES, BRUH. It's OK to stand next to each other and talk in inside voices. It only makes you bi-curious, it doesn't actually turn you gay.

That annoys me on buses, when people who know each other either stand on opposite sides of the aisle and talk super loudly or a group gets on and takes a whole double seat each to drape themselves over. If you know each other well enough to talk to each other then you know each other well enough to sit next to each other and not take up the whole damn bus.
Once a big party of language school students got on the bus I was sitting on and headed towards the back (which I was one row in front of) and I moved forward to make room for them all to sit next to each other, except some loud gel-haired bro took up my entire double seat and the last one on got stranded near the front on her own instead. I was IA for myself and also on her behalf.
Today I am annoyed at sleeves. I bought two new sweaters y/day and the sleeves are kind of short and I haven't even washed them yet so they're probably only going to get shorter, at least on the wool jumper. I have pretty short arms too (I assume? normally sleeves are way too long on me) so I can only imagine what these look like on normal humans.

Somehow u-torrent seems to have reconfigured itself in such a way that instead of downloading audio files in folders thus separating the downloads into whatever live recording they came as they just come down as files stripped of the folders. I can't see what you would need to reconfigure to get it back to the way it was up until yesterday where it had the separating folders.Subsequently I have several live sets in a larger folder all jumbled up, sorted by the numerical part of their title so I have a load of 1s from different sets, a load of 2s from different sets etc.
Looks like i somehow had automatically update u-torrent ticked on the preferences box and maybe this has the thing needing to be reconfigured since it is possibly a new version of u-torrent but I've never come across an update leading to this. I also don't think I would normally leave an automatically update box ticked if I was aware of it. So am further wondering if I did leave it unticked or bowed to continual notification previously that there were new updates which would probably bug me too, especially if they were happenning with any great frequency.
― Stevolende, Saturday, 31 January 2015 19:11 (nine years ago) link
Looking in the wrong place to try to figure out configuration when the problem is a box that's become unticked on the main interface. So I go and look in preferences and can't find anything. Semi surprised i haven't come across that before.& Now IA that I couldn't see it earlier

When I lived in "Little Saigon" I noticed people shouting conversations in Vietnamese (or Korean or maybe Chinese) across various distances with no obvious reason for being that far apart. One time I saw two women converse from opposite sides of a street. There was a lot of extended casual yelling in that neighborhood.

I'm IA because our Walmart has apparently done away with baskets, forcing everybody who has more than a couple of items to buy to push a cart around. Even though everything I needed fit in one bag.
― it takes 14 to make a baby (WilliamC), Monday, 2 February 2015 17:30 (nine years ago) link
Your local WalMart management irrationally believes that forcing you to push around an enormous cart will induce you to fill it with impulse purchases rather than make you very rationally angry with them.
― Aimless, Monday, 2 February 2015 17:37 (nine years ago) link
My brother gets IA at his local Walmart b/c they put huge displays all the way down the aisles so that a cart can barely get through. I support his IA.
― Je55e, Monday, 2 February 2015 18:06 (nine years ago) link
Oh yeah, they do that in my local supermarket (Giant) as well. Two carts should be able to get down the aisle without one of them being blocked by like, a Pepperidge Farm standee or something.
― how's life, Monday, 2 February 2015 18:18 (nine years ago) link
That actually got me so angry that I sent an email in complaint. They basically wrote back like "we want to be able to better serve customers by offering a wider variety of products and we aren't gonna change a thing".
― how's life, Monday, 2 February 2015 18:20 (nine years ago) link
Stores are paid directly by whatever company owns the Pepperidge Farm brand for "better serving" you that way. So, unless you slipped a thousand or so into an envelope along with your complaint, they wouldn't be interested.

My Walmart has tons of baskets but the lazy/not paid enough to give a fuck employees seem to be incapable of putting them back up by the entrances after people check out. I usually have to walk by the checkout lanes to scavenge one.
