I get annoyed when people use old-fashioned abbreviations for states! Particularly on pieces of mail but anywhere else too.

My phone autocorrects ill to "I'll" all the time and drives me bonkers.Perhaps I should stop having such an affect of saying "ill" instead of "sick", i unno.

if i type "he's" on my phone it tries to auto-correct to "hens".only if i type "hes" does it default to "he's"

Websites, billboards and advertising that use outdated versions of the city's skyline.
My own company even just did this recently on a magazine cover, somehow catching the magic week the Met Building was getting turned into Simmons.

Cereal packaging.
In particular:-cereal boxes that don't have the name on the side so if you have three different Kellogg's cereals they all look the fucking same-cereal boxes that don't have that little flap you push down to keep the top closed-cereal boxes with the tops glued so tightly that you rip that little flap thing and can't close the box-plastic inner bags that rip downwards when you try to open them so you can't pour your cereal without half of it ending up loose outside the bag in the bottom of the box-stupidly sized boxes that don't fit in any standard kitchen cupboard or shelf-every single fucking thing about weetabix packaging
I've let this shit build up too long. Fuck cereal.

lately i've been irrationally angry when reading articles about the videogame bloodborne where the writer calls the fictional location in which the game takes place 'yarnham' instead of the correct 'yharnam'.
it's particularly annoying to me because you see the correct spelling many, many times on-screen when playing. pay closer attention ffs!

But again, these two-letter abbreviations have been with us for awhile. Not sure why it's so hard for people to wrap their head around Nebraska being NE and Nevada being NV.
This was weird: When I was in Australia in December, my mother-in-law introduced a friend of hers who was in the shipping business. Oh, he said, he ships things all around the world! Arkansas! He knows all about it! All over the South.
Kind of a nervous fellow, and as he was leaving, he mentioned how he'll keep an eye out for our name next time he sees a shipping tag for Arizona. It wasn't until ten minutes after he left that I realized, man, he must really be in the shipping business. I doubt any other Australians would get those two states confused.

Wondering why if I'm on what is supposedly the best bus service in town, 2 scheduled buses don't turn up, while I pass one with my service's number returning to the bus garage just before the first of those scheduled times. Also why they choose to do this at the height of rush hour on a really wet day.
― Stevolende, Thursday, 2 April 2015 19:29 (nine years ago) link
Clarification there, what I don't understand is why there's a bus returning to the bus station instead of not appearing because it's stuck somewhere on the route. As in you expect a non appearance to be because of the latter not the former. Roads can be at an apparent utter standstill for the hour or whatever of the rush hour. I think they do move intermittently.
In fact after having to wait for the bus we then got stuck in traffic for ages once it had started heading towards my destination.

The amount of packages the other two floors of this building get, that **I sign for** is starting to seem kind of nuts. I'm glad someone is here for them, and I recognize the problem of trying to ever get deliveries during the day, but these people don't even CHECK to see if we're going to be here, they just have things shipped and don't seem to make any effort to be home for them?
Like, if I get an email note that there's a UPS package coming, I know to be at the door by 7.15pm! What do they think is going to happen?? I should let their stuff be returned to a warehouse in the far reaches of Queens and see if they get more attentive.

There's an old warehouse converter to lux loft-style condo living that I considered renting a unit in a number of years back (and probably should have, I would have been right next to the inexpensive bar/restaurants) that has a FRONT DESK that is staffed during the day. It'd be awesome to have someone to sign for yr packages as part of your home.
So, long-standing local grocery chain Dahl's made some bad business decisions and, post-bankruptcy, have been bought by the Price Chopper chain. Or whoever owns that chain, among others, and they decided to humiliate Dahl's by renaming them Price Chopper.
So that sucks. But, on the bright side, Dahl's on Beaver Avenue, long known as BeaverDahl's, is now BEAVER CHOPPER

About 5-6 years ago when I learned of these cruise ships of post-Ivy residence, they were...expensive, but not, like, 1% expensive. Just "daddy's money" expensive.

There's a cheap grocery store here that boasts how it sells everything at cost! Just marked up ten percent!
You say, ok? But the rub is that all the prices displayed on the shelves are the cost price. The ten percent and then the whatever sales tax is added at the register.
If I just thought of it like I was ordering dinner and giving the cashier a really cheap tip, that'd be one thing. But I forget every time until the total is nothing like i pictured and I'm all goddammit this place.

xp to plains:it makes you think of a command economy, where prices are set and the ten percent is the allocation for the workers, or so they are trying to make you think
but really, it is like places with weird taxes when you're on vacation and you're away from home and have no idea what sales tax, vice tax, and VAT (what is this) will be until you get rung up at the cash register. then you sigh and figure you'll not have something from the minibar, to make up for it, fuck this city/state/country

I always think about the Dollar Tree cashier, standing there all day going "That'll be $2.14. $7.49 please. Just $1.07. You don't have change?"
And know how you find the cheap grocery store, the just-getting-started non-denominational church or charity drop-off center in a new town? Just keep your eyes peeled for the "Wal-Mart Drive" street sign.

Wow, is that "(tiny print) Plus a charge added at checkout! Plus some more charges!" stuff even legal? Seems like it would be not legal in the UK but I might be wrong.
Is their repeat custom entirely from people who never add up the total so everything looks really cheap at the shelves and then they're not even surprised at the checkout because they didn't bother keeping a mental running total? (PS I am a dumb Brit and found sales tax really confusing in the US so after a few days of being there I just totally gave up on trying to keep a running total, so this would get me for sure.)
I'm a bit annoyed because I bought something which was priced at 1.79 at the shelf today only to be charged 1.99 at the checkout, and I remembered that the exact same thing had happened at the same shop with the same item a few weeks ago, and I queried it that time, and it took like 10 minutes while managers were called to inspect my receipt and look at the shelves and give me a 20p refund, and I felt like a total asshole for spending ten minutes quibbling over 20p. So today I fell for it again and didn't say anything. Well done me.
