This goose was cool. It was sitting on a huge nest built amid the biggest heap of empty 40s you've ever seen. Big fucking birds.

Je55e, Tuesday, 7 April 2015 02:32 (nine years ago) link

Under all the empties were the bones of park drunks gone missing. Those remaining tell each other that their comrades sobered up and are living the straight life, or packed up and moved somewhere warm but they give the geese a wide berth.

The way some later episodes of the Simpsons and futurama do this thing where they have a line that they think is so amazingly funny that they play it again after the credits

I'm not even watching those shows (right now or in general) but it just popped into my head that they would do this & I got a little bit annoyed

I was thinking today about the Cadbury Crème Egg and how a) it used to be way bigger/better and b) the New Zealand 80s-era TV ad for it, which came on only around Easter, was always my favourite ad ever, and then when I was about 15 they stopped running it and put up some other bullshit ad. It used to be that this would just make me kind of sad to think about, but today it made me SO angry. How dare anyone change something I like.

I guess I can be thankful for YouTube though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olF-KP4J4ew

Ive seen every Futurama episode and you've lost me on this, I dont think Ive ever seen them do any post-credits stuff. you sure its not just your TV station replaying a bit?

some networks that are showing syndicated cartoons do that but yr right in that it wasn't necessarily part of the orig episode

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Thursday, 9 April 2015 23:59 (nine years ago) link

i remember Comedy Central doing that a lot with their run of Futurama, but they did that with all of their shows

Can't work out why my main cold water tap is dry, not turning on.
NObody's been in the flat apart from me as far as I know,Certainly shouldn't have been.
There were workmen in the square during the day but I don't think they were doing anything with water, just road surfacing as far as I could see.
& other taps are running. Though not sure if every other tap is going to be based on storage water of some kind.
& from what I'd understand a faulty washer would only mean a tap was more likely to drip, not seal up the water through a tap.

I haven't had any warning about water being turned off.
First reaction was is this something to do with the water charges but I haven't heard about this happening with anybody else or seen any warning about it.

Puzzling and hoping it is something that gets sorted out by tomorrow.
Assuming that would mean I can't do a clothes wash until it's sorted either.

Not sure where the water stop would be for the flat. Would assume that one would have to switch it off in order for water to stop running in a flat. & would also have assumed that this flat wouldn't have a large storage unit I wasn't aware of. though it does have a boiler, not sure how much water would be in that.
Water was working earlier, I took a shower before I went out. Filled a kettle a couple of times etc.

I pay the rent each month and my brother pays cable and utilities. whenever there's an appliance breakdown I'm always expected to notify the super/landlord, which ok, fine. but when there's an issue with cable/utilities, my brother, either because he hates talking on the phone or is just lazy, outright refuses to call to fix it. and Bright House will only talk to the account holder. we had one month where he let the cable box sit broken for a month without calling, until I finally called pretending to be him because I couldn't stand to keep reminding him.

no matter how many times I bitch him out it just seems to make him want to help less. eventually I'm just gonna refuse to pay cable one month.

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 20:28 (nine years ago) link

I thought your brother already paid cable and utilities

sorry by paid I mean 'takes responsibility for making the actual payment'. we all (me and the other roommate) reimburse him and he makes the payment.

I have to email with this guy for a nonprofit I work with and his personal email has a signature that says, in part:

"architect, designer, urbanist, environmentalist, cyclist"

This makes me quite IA, I think because he feels the need to announce these things, but also because he's rather officious and tactless.

dan m, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 03:21 (nine years ago) link

those attitudes go along with his listed credentials imo

I have one coworker who has all his degrees and titles listed in his email signature and he is insufferable

mh, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 12:16 (nine years ago) link

I know it's totally customary for lawyers to frame and hang their diplomas and whatever other certificates they got for good behavior during law school, and people I like a lot do this, but I don't like it and think its unnecessary.

I mean, we know you graduated or you wouldn't be sitting in this office. Anything else I can find on the intranet.

I mostly don't want to spend $200 to frame my damn diploma.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 15 April 2015 12:27 (nine years ago) link

this guy is basically a project lead and he has "PhD, PMP, CSPO" after his name, on the line before his actual title

mh, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 13:33 (nine years ago) link

I edit an architecture supplement each year, and oh how I do not look forward to those acronyms.

pplains, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 13:37 (nine years ago) link

see my guy doesn't have any credentials beyond (I'm guessing) a bachelor's, so all those 'ist's must just be placeholders

dan m, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 13:55 (nine years ago) link

We have a wall of framed awards at my office. I'm proud of what we've accomplished and everything, but you see, they're all from the same organization. If we had Peabodies and Pulitzers up there, that'd be one thing. Instead, passerby are all "Well, it certainly seems like you've made an impression on the Parenting Media Association!"

pplains, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 14:02 (nine years ago) link

And God love the Parenting Media Association. I want to make it very clear that they are very important and yes, we'd like some more framed awards next year if possible, thank you.

pplains, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 14:03 (nine years ago) link

My boss is "liaising" with the Br!t!sh C0mputer S0ciety abt getting some sort of organisational membership for some reason, but as far as I can tell they exist solely for people who hope the letters BSC after their name might trick dyslexics and people with poor attention to detail

(on the other hand I am basically the only person in the entire universe not to have a degree, so I'm the only person that would be any good for, and I'm not getting my wallet out)

mh, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 14:16 (nine years ago) link

pplains, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 14:17 (nine years ago) link

Pretty much everyone I work with has titles and degrees in their sigs but they're all academics and dammit you better understand I'm not only an assistant professor but also the undergrad coordinator; god forbid you think I only have an MFA and not a PhD.

joygoat, Wednesday, 15 April 2015 14:29 (nine years ago) link

Also yes, the email signature thing gets me riled up too. Thought I was just trying to find some tiny self-righteousness in being a total no-career going-nowhere bum, but I do feel a delicious shiver of disdain when someone new has been in the seat for approx 3 seconds and has already set up an elaborate email signature announcing PhD, MSc, Senior Rock Star Universe Designer & Reality Architect.

Possibly unfair, especially since at one point we were actually told we should all put our job titles in our signatures. (Most of us resisted. Nobody noticed.)

Extra disdain points for new people who jump in to answer all the questions about how everything works in meetings, even though someone less curmudgeonly/socially inept probably thinks hey, that new guy's great, it's totally great that he's already taking control and understanding the business and letting us have his fresh perspectives, because hey, that's what we employ him for, right? (I dunno what anyone employs anyone for. Still waiting to be paid just to sit on the sofa and hate everyone, personally.)
