Local area having idiot teens throwing stones at passersby just because they are at hand. I assume this is pretty standard for disaffected youth but it does seem to be causing a lot of consternation among people who are trying to do things like litter picks locally.
There's a path you have to walk back along from the woods where the litter pick was being done and first a car that was collecting rubbish bags to take them back to the disposal point and then a guy walking a wheelbarrow containing more collected stuff had stones thrown at them as they went along it. Kids hang out at a point along it.. Looks like that might be the last straw for the guy and future litter picks are in doubt. He had had a sign showing the paths through the forest and local wildlife vandalised by somebody the day before. Can't be sure if it is the same people but likelihood of collection is pretty high.

There area lso various flowerbeds and things around the estate that have stones around them that I've seen kids throw at people for no apparent reason.
I'm not sure if they're actually intending to cause harm or thinking anything about the result of having stones thrown at people but it is a major pain in the arse. I'm thinking it is just a game on their part and they're not really thinking beyond their own enjoyment. Which is verging on creepy.
Just wondering how you handle things so that things like that don't repeat.

Interview subjects who use "Yeah, so," "OK, so," or "Right, so" as placeholder text and begin the answer to every question with one of those. You could be the world's leading authority on something, but you're going to have to work twice as hard to convince me.

An SVP at my company starts nearly EVERY sentence with this and I would like to strangle him.

I might like you better if we Yelped together (Phil D.), Tuesday, 21 April 2015 15:52 (nine years ago) link

I always expect those sentences to turn into "Look, you do what I tell you." or something equally noxious.

"Look, ____" basically means "My perspective is clearly superior to yours and I no longer have the patience to point out all of the facets of your stupidity, so just shut your cakehole and trust me, idiot."

Au Jus On My Dungarees (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 21 April 2015 16:13 (nine years ago) link

Did Old Lunch just "look" us by explaining what that phrasing implies.

pplains would appreciate this -- someone in my city owns the original LOOK magazine logo that was on the building and had it in their front yard, or at least they did when I used to drive through their neighborhood years ago.

Look was a bi-weekly, general-interest magazine published in Des Moines, Iowa, from 1937 to 1971, with more of an emphasis on photographs than articles.

mh, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 17:38 (nine years ago) link

I did not know that.

Definitely did not know about the sign in the front yard either.

pplains, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 17:58 (nine years ago) link

if I have occasion to drive that way I will take a picture

mh, Tuesday, 21 April 2015 18:02 (nine years ago) link

Hahahaha, I did that to my boss today. "I need to give you some news...something that's been going on since November but I haven't told you about." I had her in a total panic but then just told her I'm diabetic and that she needs to quit putting sweets in the gift baskets she sends me at Christmas and Easter.
