did you go to an internet cafe for lunch?

cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

What is this thread about?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

Yay, lunchtime pint! I have panto-with-parents duties at the Kings at 2.00 on the 27th, so a-pre-panto-pint would be an alliterative joy!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 18:20 (nineteen years ago)

I guess I'll be in town from about 12. Somebody think of a handy pub for the Kings and the H3r4ld.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not sure such a thing exists.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:08 (nineteen years ago)

The entirety of Bath Street and most of Sauchiehall Street to thread!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:10 (nineteen years ago)

(I can also do H3rald end of the world and jump on a train/bus/taxi down Bath Street when finished drinking - like I'm going to give up valuable drinking time walking down the street, ha)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

I'll still be darn sarf, Aldo, by the way. Sorry I'll miss you.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 21 December 2005 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

from the hidden glasgow grafitti thread

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:21 (nineteen years ago)

Also from Hidden Glasgow, these, which I heard sung in a karaoke pub in Paisley one night.

Not as good as that graffiti, but still, little is.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:26 (nineteen years ago)

Glaswegian Rhapsody!

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:36 (nineteen years ago)

I was sitting in a pub in Paisley one night when a bloke was setting up the karaoke - we were just going to finish our pints and leave and he started singing that version of American Pie and I was roffling so much I couldn't actually stand up even if I'd wanted to leave.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:40 (nineteen years ago)

Anyone going to the Sunno)))/Earth gig at the ABC2 on Feb 12th?
Tix are £12.50.
I will probably be going now that Ailsa kindly told me where the ABC was.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Thursday, 22 December 2005 00:42 (nineteen years ago)

Also from Hidden Glasgow graffiti thread (OK, who's responsible, own up...)

Mooro (Mooro), Thursday, 22 December 2005 10:25 (nineteen years ago)

One would hope so.

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 22 December 2005 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

Can somebody pick a pub for me on 27th? I would, but after fighting with my mother last night about Glasgow I've lost the will to live.

Her: "There's no such place in Glasgow as Hillhead, you're making it up to send me to the wrong place."
Me: "Aye there is. OK, try finding Charing Cross first."
Her: "There's no Charing Cross either. You're just having me on."
Me: "How about Kelvingrove?"
Her: Can't see that either. This has got all the areas of Glasgow on it, I can see Partick."
Me: "Right, that's a good start. So, move into town a bit - what does it say?"
Her: "Glasgow. It just says Glasgow."
Me: "What exactly are you looking at?"
Her: "A map of Glasgow."
Me: "Are you sure?"
Her: "Yes, an ordnance survey one."

1:250,000 was the scale. No wonder she couldn't find anything.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 23 December 2005 09:19 (nineteen years ago)

the bastille

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 23 December 2005 09:34 (nineteen years ago)

ailsa: will you be cross if i suggest somewhere like universal, or - better! - the station bar? which are really handy for me, but marginally less handy for the king's?

if so: start the bidding at the other end of sauchiehall street and we can agree on somewhere in the middle (but not that fucking sports bar thing).

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:23 (nineteen years ago)

Jumpin' Jacks or Campus.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:26 (nineteen years ago)

Universal is good for me. Station Bar less so (location not as great for escaping up Bath Street). In fact, Universal strikes me as the best suggestion we are going to get.

Ally C might be coming too, I was putting the squeeze on a bit last night, though I'm not sure I was successful.

(cozen, the bastille is miles away! - well a few hundred yards out of the area of maximum convenience)

xpost - or the "fantastic" Yates, scene of last night's Xmas party night out from hell (which probably progressed to Jumping Jaks but I escaped before getting the chance to find out)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

Campus is good in the middle of the afternoon when drinks are £1 and you can play pool and air hockey. However, when other people start arriving, not so good.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:39 (nineteen years ago)

universal does nice(ish) food as well. and one of the barmen is a big OMD fan. so hurrah.

it can get busy at lunchtime but they let you call ahead and reserve a table for lunch, even if it is of the liquid variety.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:44 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, OK, sounds good to me. I could be tempted into a bit of lunch, I suppose. I can be there from opening time until about 1.45.

I'm now going to bed, so organise away, and consider me counted in.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 24 December 2005 00:49 (nineteen years ago)

fkn bastille; get a grip

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 24 December 2005 02:05 (nineteen years ago)

haha sorry!!! I am v.drunk

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 24 December 2005 02:08 (nineteen years ago)

Universal sounds like the place then. I'll work out how to get there and probably be there from about 12.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Saturday, 24 December 2005 08:40 (nineteen years ago)

Universal is (I think) up the wee lane between the two bits of Watt Brothers on Hope Street.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 24 December 2005 10:44 (nineteen years ago)

According to the Glasgow pub finder, it looks pretty easy to find (even for someone as geographically challenged as me).

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Saturday, 24 December 2005 11:02 (nineteen years ago)

email me your mobile number before Tuesday and then we can communicate in case you get lost, if you want...

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 24 December 2005 11:03 (nineteen years ago)

i'll be there for 12.30. ailsa: you have my mobile number. aldo: you don't, but e-mail me if you want (use the webmail link thing rather than my screen address: it is valid, but not desperately reliable).

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 24 December 2005 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

what is happening... if anything... GLA?

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 26 December 2005 00:31 (nineteen years ago)

I think it's closed

RJG (RJG), Monday, 26 December 2005 00:35 (nineteen years ago)

I've had too much family I think

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 26 December 2005 00:36 (nineteen years ago)

Evenin'
Hope you've had a good Christmas folks.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 26 December 2005 00:42 (nineteen years ago)

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 26 December 2005 00:44 (nineteen years ago)

I'm off up the road now and won't be able to check ILX till the end of the week. See those who are coming out tomorrow, tomorrow.

ailsa, you should have my mobile number by now in yr email - if not, Gerry has it.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 26 December 2005 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

lunchtime FAPs are the way forward.

shame i now can't be arsed doing anything other than maybe having another couple of pints, but hey.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

hmm, what to do, this Friday/Saturday/Sunday?

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 14:22 (nineteen years ago)

we were discussing this at lunch. not making plans, i hasten to add - what do you expect, blood? - but discussing.

i'm spoken for on friday and saturday - but not so spoken-for that i can't make detours. once there are firmer plans in place, i shall be able to work something out. when do you arrive?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 15:04 (nineteen years ago)

weather permitting, late Friday afternoon. should be quite flexible so no need to plan that urgently (ha).

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 15:12 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going to glasgow, today

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

even as I type glasgow allstars Ally C and Cozen are in teh shops.

stet (stet), Tuesday, 27 December 2005 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

I am not spoken for at all over New Year, so plan away and I will be there. Cheers for lunchtime booze, Aldo, Grimly and (belatedly as I was leaving) Cozen. Panto was excellent. As was booze. As, unbelievably, was the Daily Record. I wish I'd had the mince and tatties though. Red or brown, Aldo?

I have now drunk a gallon(ish) of shiraz and several large irish-cointreau-coffees, and need to get back into glasgow tomorrow to deliver the parents to buchanan street. Anyone wishing booze, please phone. No work until january 4th!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 01:20 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry Glasgow, slept through possible pintage opportunity. The sudden shock of going to bed before 5am for the first time in 5 days will take its toll tomorrow, I fear.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 01:30 (nineteen years ago)

I do hope so

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 01:38 (nineteen years ago)

Ah, the dickhead conundrum.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 01:43 (nineteen years ago)

your dickhead tormentor

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 01:46 (nineteen years ago)

Not so bad, in fact. Although this morning = coldest morning ever. Not pleasant with no heating.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 28 December 2005 13:18 (nineteen years ago)
