But you can’t steal something that isn’t owned. You have to own something for it to be able to be stolen.

Yeah, that’s a fair point. But I feel like the skinning of a game is really important. Brenda Romero designed a game that was about the Holocaust, right, and the same set of rules could just be Candyland, and that’s the way we think about it too. It’s not supposed to be about people, but about these representations of them as cards and you’re collecting them because you like them, not because you want to own this person.

this dude is like, the entire justification for humanities education

$twtr has lost 67% of its value in the past 8 months. Their burn rate is reportedly $3M a day with no chance of seeing profit in the near or distant future.

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 21:57 (nine years ago)

I'll miss it when it's gone, I suppose

maybe not

Οὖτις, Friday, 15 January 2016 21:59 (nine years ago)

twitter not gonna die, they cld be profitable tomorrow if they just gave up trying to grow to facebook size

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:00 (nine years ago)

even if they go bankrupt someone will buy the service and keep it going too many user to fail

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:01 (nine years ago)

now on the other hand if they start losing users

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:02 (nine years ago)

why would anybody buy a service that doesn't make money

Οὖτις, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:03 (nine years ago)

The idea is there so it'll probably survive in some form.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:04 (nine years ago)

I'll buy them when it's really really cheap.

Jeff, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:04 (nine years ago)

cause u cld make money off of it pretty easily it wld just involve laying off 3/4 of the company xp

revenue != profits

flopson, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:06 (nine years ago)

I should know better than to try and make sense of the internet economy

Οὖτις, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:07 (nine years ago)

twitter had like ~$2b revenue last year

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:09 (nine years ago)

just out of curiosity, what are the 3/4 of the company doing if they aren't adding value to the company?

Οὖτις, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:12 (nine years ago)

can we back up to the Stolen debacle, because holy shit

its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 15 January 2016 22:13 (nine years ago)

twitter is trying desperately to grow is the thing but its not working so theyre putting a lot of resources toward something thats not paying off

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:16 (nine years ago)

a large part of their valuation is based on the idea that they cld become facebook sized, but if their stock drops low enough that cld justify giving up on the world domination project and instead just trying to maintain twitter and make it good

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:18 (nine years ago)

twitter does about 1.5 billion in revenue im sure a PE company could buy it and gut it if they wanted to

, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:19 (nine years ago)

lol xp

, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:19 (nine years ago)

sry dan u got out thought leadershiped

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:19 (nine years ago)

twitter also spent 1.5 billion on R&D and sales and marketing last year i mean seems like there's a lot of fat to trim

, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:20 (nine years ago)

when you get out thought leadershiped <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:21 (nine years ago)

seems inevitable that they will eventually arrive at the smaller twitter model

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:22 (nine years ago)

I seriously need to come up with an insanely stupid idea and then find a white or Asian man to present it to some venture capitalists

its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 15 January 2016 22:23 (nine years ago)

would it surprise anyone to learn that the writer of that article was harassed overnight for writing it

[seriously nsfw image here: https://twitter.com/holly/status/688034893536858112 ]

the app has been pulled, and now gamergaters/breitbart and the like are attacking the writer as a 'censor' and defending the app. this shit is like clockwork.

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:29 (nine years ago)

is there a separate thread where someone can explain the love of this (presumably the same or highly overlapping) class of men for jerking off onto photos and screens and then taking pictures of it and uploading them to the internet because

j., Friday, 15 January 2016 22:29 (nine years ago)

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:30 (nine years ago)

Saoirse birther (darraghmac), Friday, 15 January 2016 22:31 (nine years ago)

Or an app that lets you match your friends' Twitter accounts against profiles on dating apps; it could be called Yenta for maximum cluelessness

its subtle brume (DJP), Friday, 15 January 2016 22:31 (nine years ago)

lol

lag∞n, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:35 (nine years ago)

Οὖτις, Friday, 15 January 2016 22:35 (nine years ago)
