ha ha A contrast to Rome where there were always servants hanging around in the background even during the sex scenes

king robert's fatal hunting party is also literally four people: the king, his ineffectual squire, his gay brother who hates hunting, and an old guy
unrelatedly, boy do people in this show do that thing where they walk away from the other guy in the scene and the other guy asks a weighted question and the first guy stops walking while a shot of his unhappy face captures his smug, blurry interlocutor over the shoulder
anyway i expect i'll be all caught up by the end of this week

otoh Literally every scene in a royal palace is characters scheming so if there were a bunch of servants hanging around the internet would be complaining about how dumb the characters were for talking in front of them and so unrealistic and totally took me out of it

not sure there's a better moment in s1 than when a conversation between carcetti and the eunuch (pretty sure this guy is the most reliable actor in the show btw) goes on and on and on with each line more pregnant with dramatic hostility than the one before it, until finally they get out of it by having renly bound in and yell WHAT ARE YOU TWO CONSPIRING ABOUT?

this is a killer for charades btw

i've been rewatching s1 for some reason and this criticism of goole's
the nobility were hardly ever alone. they were surrounded by their relatives, their staff, their households. the show is underpopulated. everyone seems to be in transit or being abducted between one of like five places, wouldn't they just run into each other in the middle?
really is funny: there's a scene where sean bean and carcetti are walking in a vast garden containing not a single other living soul save the identically dressed attendants raking the gravel, about 50% of whom carcetti points out as spies for one or other of the three people who walk in the garden and scheme. it's like borges.

yeah the sense of scale is really small, way less than what i expected based on reading the books. maybe my mental imaginarium has been too influenced by the LotR movies idk

in that respect (small scale) it's just myth ii: soulblighter, live action version

the worst small scale shit in GoT was Dorne, which is apparently not a kingdom but a resort in its off season with some sand dunes over a nearby hill.

I'm not sure what you mean by this but the fact that you brought this game up again makes me happy. I've always drawn connections between the game and the series as well but I'm not sure why the scale is relevant.
― Evan, Thursday, 17 March 2016 14:18 (eight years ago) link
all the battles in game were pretty small (like less than 100 combatants)

Oh, got you. Yeah, though comparisons can be made beyond just that aspect. I think we've discussed this months ago here.

goole has colonized my reactions to this show to the extent that i'm now yelling HUMANIZING MONOLOGUE!! to nobody four times an episode. they make me happy tho because i think of how happy they must make the actors.

I played online a little bit but was a bit overwhelmed by the veterans there. CTF was nuts. However, I loved downloading plugins off of http://tain.totalcodex.net/ and combining them in all sorts of ways in singleplayer. Even had fun online playing with civil war tagsets. Definitely one of my fav games.

Yes! Love it. Wonder if it still has a community. I think so, as The Tain looks like it's got some new content as far as I can tell.

So weird that from this point forward the show and books will be telling different stories. But then:
"So much of what we’re doing diverges from the books at this point .... People are going to be very surprised when they read the books after the show. They’re quite divergent in so many respects for the remainder of the show."
How the fuck do they know what Martin will or won't include in future unwritten books?

Sure, no doubt. But ... he's got hundreds, thousands of pages to write over the course of several years. There is no way the guy is going to stick to whatever script he has in mind and equally hard to believe he won't crib from theirs.

I mean maybe the show won't exactly spoil the books, but I find it hard to believe that the show will vary so greatly from the endgame of the books or answers to big questions like "who are Jon snow's parents?"
