He's not historically that good hitting but he does help himself out every so often. I have seen the 20 strikeout game on ESPN Classic like 3 times. I like it. He was like 21 years old.

Hampton is ok, but is he really a strikeout artist? I'm talking like Pedro, Seaver, Randy Johnson amount of Ks.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I've seen Kerry hit a homerun.

hstencil, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

answer for f:

fernando valenzuela

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah! Fernando really could hit!

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

14 Ks for Vasquez! Holy crap! AND HE LOST! Monkey. (Don't mind me if I talk about my other league here.)

I'd just like to apologize for my seemingly condescending post on the BB re: the still-pending LoDuca / Biddle swapski. I might not get it, but it wasn't nice of me to go & post a dorky question about the trade not making sense. My momma taught me better than that. I'm a survivor.

WTF is up w/ a non-Rockies NL game entering the bottom of the 3rd w/ a 9-8 score? (Note to self: remove Rondell White from HACKING MASS.)

And lemme just raise more topics / points in random order whilst I avoid doing homework. Yes, lemme.

I think when El Sid got behind a pitch and drove it, it went faaaaaaaar. (Answer to F's question: Babe Ruth?)

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

DID YOU KNOW that Ted Williams pitched an inning in 1940-something? It's a fact!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I think to qualify as a strikeout "artist" the pitcher should have a lifetime K/IP > 1. So maybe not Fernando. Nolan, Randy, they really can't hit for shiznit.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I like Warren Spahn. And Johhy Sain, he seemed nice.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

DID DAVE R. KNOW that Ted Williams' autograph is hanging up on my bedroom wall?

hstencil, Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

haha "DID YOU KNOW?"

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave R, Ron-"DL" White is not Hacking Mass material! That's crazy talk.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I know, I know - I had a brainfart. My friend (who's a Yankee fan, but w/ all the self-loathing and hair-triggering he goes through each season, really should be a BoSox fan) (and he picks the BoSox to win every year, the jerk) totally influence my thinking after seeing DL struggle last year in pinstripes. Ah, for the days when he hobbled around Olympic Stadium in a non-bow-legged fashion.

Hey! Let's post our HM rosters so we can steal each other's picks!

PS to Stencil - DID YOU KNOW that I once owned a pair of cheap-ass promo give-away short shorts signed by Yankee great Claudell Washington?

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I did not know that.

Ginkgo Balboa's HACKING "KEVIN" MASS team:

Catcher - Brandon Inge
First Base - J.T. Snow
Second Base - Marlon Anderson
Third Base - Craig Counsell
Shortstop - Jack Wilson
Left Field - Roger Cedeno
Center Field - Doug Glanville
Right Field - Mike Tucker
Pitchers - Chan Ho Park, Julian Tavarez

Woo boy that's some ripe cheese.

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I think that stench in here is the Zambonies' defense.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Lugo and Huff are killing you!

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Zzzzing!

Though I ought not to talk.

Leee (Leee), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I am in first!

"We had to come together as a team when Jeter went down. I said look guys. this is an oppurtunity for someone else to step up. They really responded. We have a lotta heart in this locker room."

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 9 April 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"It is rumored that CDKs starting pitcher David Wells is looking to be traded, following disappointing first-week sales of his book, I'm Not Perfect. When asked about the rumor, Wells' agent said 'David is a team player but he would like to be on a team where his 20+ wins will be appreciated. Sometimes it seems like all the CDK ownership and fans care about are flashy strikeout numbers and who is the hot new flavor-of-the-month hold artist.' CDKs front office personnel would not comment on Wells' grumblings except to say 'Wells is a fine pitcher and an asset to CDKs -- as he would be to any team.'"

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 10 April 2003 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I know I'm in Toronto and it's officially hockey season and go Leafs go and all of that but can I just say how happy the Blue Jays are making me lately?

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 10 April 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

It's all about the "little cat". He needs to be in the lineup everyday.

Now if Halladay can make us happy tomorrow...

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 10 April 2003 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm sure he will. he needs to remind sturtz who the ace is¡
vernon wells especially is making me happy, i've been a fan of his since his 1st at bat as a j. are you the one who's got him mark¿

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 10 April 2003 05:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Rocco Baldelli - 2 for 4 and two rbi's. Again, ROOKIE OF THE YEAR!

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 10 April 2003 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

After I got the message across that no one is untradable, the Pockets responded by leaping from 13th to 4th place. It was the greatest one day jump in the history of recorded time and space.

Baez picks up another save.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 10 April 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Thome has broken out his home run slump mit zwei kartoffel.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 10 April 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

This concludes the Pocket update for April 10th, 2003.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 10 April 2003 12:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, lawrence, that is a big leap.

dyson, which is your team?

Tanyon looked cute on highlights I admit. He pitched well.

How about those Royals? MIDWEST PRIDE

All you people without closers, how could you pass up Mike DeJean? I couldn't believe he was a free agent.

My team is slow. It is sad that I am relying on a man named "Pokey" to up my stolen bases.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 10 April 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

haha I dumped Pokey in order to pick up MARLON ANDERSON. Where have all the flowers and second basemen gone?

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 10 April 2003 12:55 (twenty-two years ago)

SCOUTING REPORT ON AARON W'S A-OK'S: I'm #1 again and my starting pitching still stinks. 2 wins, 5.41 ERA, 1.71 WHIP, and only 25 Ks... OUCH! Maybe a good outing from Shaun Chacon is just what the rotation needs? I also hope my lineup continues to bat well... or at least, when everybody else cools off that Bonds and Ichiro will take off.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 10 April 2003 12:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm fourteenth but that's pretty much entirely because of my pitching, which I'm expecting to improve.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Trading catchers for closers is very comme il faut in ILB.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Gygax, seriously - Dave Roberts, what would it take?

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

"Guardado to Have Radical Tommy John Surgery"

Doctors at the Mayo Clinic have confirmed that the Twins ace reliever will have the most radical Tommy John surgery ever performed. "Basically we're removing his arm and replacing it with another one", said one docter. When asked whose arm will be used to replace Guardados busted wing the doctor replied, "Steve Sax".

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

At least now I know that 'Lawrence Kansas' is Kenny Williams' screen name.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 10 April 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

"comme il faut"??? Kenny Williams??? I have no idea what's going on. You cosmopolitan types will be the death of me.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 10 April 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"Comme il faut" = "standard practice"

Kenny Williams = Chisox GM who traded a gimpy Mike Sirotka to an equally gimpy Gord Ash in 2000.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 10 April 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

mark p-

i need a pitcher but it seems that we have comparable pitching staffs.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 April 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Who would you want for Roberts?

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 10 April 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Winning Pitcher AL Levine is now a Devil Ray? I can't keep uyp with him.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 10 April 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

he's avoiding you

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 10 April 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Lest we forget KWill also signed such luminaries as Sandy Alomar Jr. and Royce Clayton (y'know, for the OPS), traded Ray Durham for ... um ... something, and gave the Pirates 2/3rds of their current rotation (Josh Fogg & Kip Wells) in exchange for current Sausage Race Participant Todd Ritchie. Up until this off-season, KWill did everything in his power to whack the ChiSox behind the knee w/ a lead pipe. It almost makes me wanna wonder just why he got Colon...

Holy crap, I'm bitter.

Felicity, there are plenty of other middle relievers in the sea. Let Al go. You're too good for him.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 10 April 2003 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

You flatter me, David, but middle reliever? I prefer set-up man and vulture specialist, hmph. But I am so over him.

I adore how Prior always finishes his follow-though with a little mitt-on-the-hip "attitude," like a runway model striking a pose at the end of the catwalk. He's wonderful.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 10 April 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

"Vulture specialist"? Like Mark Grace & Jose Canseco?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 10 April 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave R, don't forget Kenny's spectacular "David Wells as a White Sox Player" experiment.

hstencil, Thursday, 10 April 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

vulture specialist = a relief pitcher with more decisions than some of the starters! He's the master of that. He's also actually prety effective, so it's not all sarcastic for me to call him "WInning Pitcher" Levine.

Surely the "Vulture" is a classic roto archetype? e.g., the Angels have a tie or a small lead in late innings, the previous pitcher gets in a jam, Bud Black brings in sinker-slider specialist Al Levine to induce the double play, Levine walks the other guy's baserunner in or somehow lets him score, erasing the lead, and then proceeds to close the inning, Glaus or Garrett Anderson either rally for a couple or don't but if they do the the next thing you know the line looks like Levine (W, 8-6), Percival (S, 35). Not bad for 15 to 35 pitches.

The Canseco pitching story makes me sad. But I liked the inning of perfect relief Steve Finley threw in the D-backs championship year one game when they were getting blown out by the Roxx.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 10 April 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

mark p:

snow and roberts for mulder
check your mail.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 April 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got zero use for Snow. And if you want Mulder, I'd definitely need more than those two...

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 10 April 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't a team get more than one hold in a game? What're the qualifications for a hold? Just keeping a lead, but for how many innings?

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 10 April 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax! if you need pitching I am hurt you would go anywhere else!

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 10 April 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)
