Might not sound like a compliment but for me Alfred is the least predictable regular poster in terms of opinions.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 11 December 2016 23:16 (seven years ago) link

lol

how so?

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 11 December 2016 23:18 (seven years ago) link

In this forum since we don't have avatars it takes me longer to assemble an idea of who each poster is and what they're like. There are lots of posters I still get mixed up. Most of those "(name) in (place)" posters are just jumbled together for me.
I've seen a lot of your opinions on films and music but I still haven't figured out what your favourite types of things are or what you're likely to say.

i mean, youd think these two pieces of info would actually help?

i dunno man there seems to be an inordinate number of people living in alex

Our Sweet Fredrest (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 11 December 2016 23:44 (seven years ago) link

soto will like good film and bad music ;)

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Sunday, 11 December 2016 23:44 (seven years ago) link

Jim In Vancouver is easier for me to remember than the Alex and Josh posters.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Sunday, 11 December 2016 23:45 (seven years ago) link

oh this is the nice things thread

soto is a voice of clarity on popular culture threads and his film criticism is up there with anyone on ilx's

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Sunday, 11 December 2016 23:46 (seven years ago) link

changing my name to "darragh in usa" but it'll take a few weeks for the local court to approve my new nomenclature

mh 😏, Monday, 12 December 2016 00:02 (seven years ago) link

his film criticism is up there with anyone on ilx's

what is this golf clap nonsense, try again

El Tomboto, Monday, 12 December 2016 00:03 (seven years ago) link

yeah that was almost damning with faint praise
alfred can and does write professional film criticism and does so independently here without compensation

mh 😏, Monday, 12 December 2016 00:06 (seven years ago) link

i liked "up there with anyone on ilx's", i felt briefly included as a player

mark s, Monday, 12 December 2016 00:09 (seven years ago) link

i guess that's my "say something nice abt imago" :D

mark s, Monday, 12 December 2016 00:10 (seven years ago) link

lol now there's a golf clap :P

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Monday, 12 December 2016 00:30 (seven years ago) link

soto's film criticism perhaps falls short of jonathan rosenbaum's but i would trust his opinion over more or less any other film writer on earth

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Monday, 12 December 2016 00:35 (seven years ago) link

that do

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Monday, 12 December 2016 00:35 (seven years ago) link

honestly, both of the prominent "al"s on here are very good writers, i just don't always agree with some dude
i may be forgetting other als

i always end up liking albums i thought i hated bcz of alfred.

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 12 December 2016 00:57 (seven years ago) link

I met Mr. Soto, once ca. '07. I was at the lowest point in my life emotionally, creatively, and career-wise, and he was a total gentleman and a kindly conversation even though I was an incoherent mess.

i just wanna say lagoon is good at social media on multiple platforms. good tweets, good faces, good hoops and weed posts here

Agree on the tweets. Except for that no zip hoodie propaganda.

I don't know who most ilx posters are, nowadays.

But I really like Fizzles on I LOVE BOOKS! So tremendously well read and also unfailingly generous, polite, open, interesting, and self-critical to a fault.

the pinefox, Monday, 12 December 2016 13:58 (seven years ago) link

i wouldve said to a fair degree rather than to a fault but otherwise i endorse this sentiment

loudmouth darraghmac ween (darraghmac), Monday, 12 December 2016 14:09 (seven years ago) link

Good guy to have a pint or two with too.

cosign on Fizzles. he never gives the impression that he understands his own worth.

three weeks pass...

Karl Malone is next-level, consistently one of the funniest people I read on the Internet. Stuff that in most hands would go horribly wrong with trying-too-hardness, he makes look easy.

for real though the above posters are wonderful and their presence on a thread often tips me toward trying to contribute something rather than just observing( for better or worse), and i'm sure that's true for other people too

Karl Malone, Monday, 23 January 2017 16:29 (seven years ago) link
