Yeah, it's been a whole four posts since someone else posted.

(you want to try the Scottish Football Predictions thread if you want a thread only two people post on)

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 14 April 2006 21:31 (nineteen years ago)

What am I, shortbread?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 14 April 2006 21:37 (nineteen years ago)

You've been pretending you don't exist so I won't laugh at your team on holiday! And not posting.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 14 April 2006 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

That's true. I have become the Torre Andre Flo of that thread - came with a reputation, started adequately, turned out to be pish.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 14 April 2006 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

I like it, keep up good job !

Alexx_STI, Wednesday, 19 April 2006 06:39 (nineteen years ago)

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 08:00 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, Sinbad = porthole approach to window-cleaning.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 08:19 (nineteen years ago)

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 08:19 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry to invade your thread again, Glasgow, but hurry on down to London, Dot To Dot! :-)

Henrietta Leavitt and the Cepheid Variables (kate), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 08:22 (nineteen years ago)

I got a bit lost on Thursday night. It would be hard to say exactly what happened, but there was drink taken.

Actually "drink taken" was a bit of a feature of the weekend.

I do not recommend the Gleddoch House hotel for a wedding just at the moment, by the way. It'll be lovely when it's finished, but it's a bit, er, raw and understaffed at the moment.

Ow my head, etc.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 09:16 (nineteen years ago)

Half of it burned down last year or the year before. I thought the work would have been done by now.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

Google says the fire was January '04.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

It could easily have been. Then they were doing it up, and then about two months ago the hotel changed hands, became part of a chain, and (so someone told me) a lot of the staff left. This would account for some of the annoying things that happened, like the cigarette machine not being refilled and the bar running out of both beer and vodka, but not for other annoying things like the temporary dancefloor coming apart and the band therefore not really being able to play very much.

But we managed to struggle through and have a good time anyway.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 10:09 (nineteen years ago)

yo peeps. free gig tomorrow. info here god i hope that worked. otherwise it'll look MIGHTY silly. ah well. it's 3am. can i be forgiven? yes. thank you. summary: free. swedes. pop. rock. pizza. bar bloc. bath street. 8 or so (early enough that you can run away and do other things later!). beer. beer. swedes. dahlin (dahlin), Friday, 21 April 2006 01:14 (nineteen years ago)

NPL: A big queue looks good on the dancefloor.

I thank you.

scotstvo (scotstvo), Saturday, 29 April 2006 08:55 (nineteen years ago)

Scotstvo! Hello! Are you going to Benicassim this year? I am giving it serious consideration (or was until I got made redundant - though I have a few interviews lined up so this might not be an issue), and the Neil-friendly line-up means this is the best chance I have of getting him there.

Bah, one of the few times NPL coincides with me getting paid, and I didn't go. They should bring back Little Leagues soon, and I might actually go to one of them.

Yesterday I walked past Stew outside Partick Station and I waved at him and said hello and he didn't see me.

Is anyone going to see Belle and Sebastian tomorrow?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 29 April 2006 09:26 (nineteen years ago)

I quite fancied NPL, and then my parents showed up. To make up for it we went to the Transport Museum, the Hill House and New Lanark and they bought all my dinners for me. New Lanark has a crazy ride! Is Alba drinking tomorrow?

Mädchen (Madchen), Sunday, 30 April 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

Did you not get my text?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 30 April 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

What is the crazy ride at New Lanark?

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 30 April 2006 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

mr. owen's wild ride

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 30 April 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

I think it's called the Millennium Experience. It's like a very slow gondola that doesn't go up or down, just round corners. And there are some bad waxworks of people in long frocks.

Mädchen (Madchen), Sunday, 30 April 2006 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

ooh. I wonder if it is like the one at the Jorvic museum in York.

One of my very early memories of pure terror is of being taken to the Chamber of Horrors at Madame Tussaud's, and feeling claustrophobic and panicked. I just looked at the website and it says it is only suitable for over 12s, but I must have been about 5, I'm not sure why I was let in.

Anyway, I am very distrustful of anything underground with waxworks, that calls itself an Experience. Especially anything with piped-through "historical smells". The Jorvic museum thing smelt of smoke and piss, on purpose, to create atmosphere. It was rancid.

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 30 April 2006 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

wine and piss...and death's desire

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 30 April 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

No Benicassim for me this year I'm afraid. I'm giving up the world of gainful employment and going to do a postgrad this coming term, rendering me virtually penniless and in no way able to go to Spain for dancing. Still though, I highly recommend it!

scotstvo (scotstvo), Monday, 1 May 2006 09:21 (nineteen years ago)

At least four of us are collecting Panini. There was a vague plan to meet up tomorrow after work to do swopsies - who's up for it?

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

Is the new lanark thingie called The Annie McLeod Experience? I can vaguely remember that from a school history trip.

They should stick the falls of clyde back on to the cover of the phone book for Lanarkshire again.

JohnFoxxsJuno (JohnFoxxsJuno), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

No, it's definitely a Millennium Experience. Mostly it's a hologram of this girl called Harmony from 200 years in the future wearing dodgy lycra and silver facepaint. Anne McLeod does crop up as a waxwork lying on her sickbed, and there is also an Annie McLeod Tour of the schoolhouse.

They had opened the barriers at the top of the Falls of Clyde so it was at maximum gush for the bank holiday, but I didn't notice any difference tbh.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

There was a vague plan to meet up tomorrow after work to do swopsies - who's up for it?

I have emailed Onimo about pre-match pints and this could and should be extended to swapsieing as well. It might encourage me to go and buy some bloody stickers - I have lost all enthusiasm for it due to lack of, erm, enthusiasm.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

I can't find anywhere selling the damn things. Ally C says Woolworths is the place so I'll go tomorrow.

Mädchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

Every shop I went into today just had SPL stickers.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm getting the same thing :(

Mädchen (Madchen), Friday, 5 May 2006 10:44 (nineteen years ago)

is it world cup stickers? they had some at the wee shop at st. john's hospital in livingston, yesterday

you should just do what your adult income allows which is order a crate of stickers and sit and open them all in one go and fill the book!

RJG (RJG), Friday, 5 May 2006 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

I think the Co-op is the best place for Panini FIFA Fussball-Weltmeisterschaft Deutschland 2006 stickers.

Sorry I couldn't make the swapsie meeting (did it happen?), I was ill.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 5 May 2006 10:52 (nineteen years ago)

Yesterday I walked past Stew outside Partick Station and I waved at him and said hello and he didn't see me.

-- ailsa (ailsa.watso...), April 29th, 2006.

Oops, sorry! Was in flitting mode. Stress!

Stew (stew s), Friday, 5 May 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

OK, aldoFAP is looking more likely now. Almost definitely I will be up 22-25 May - can do any night Mon-Weds, could almost certainly do Sun 21st as well if needs be. GET YOUR BIDS IN NOW FOR PREFERRED EVENING/LOCTAION.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 5 May 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be unemployed! I can go every night if you like! (I may be poor though, but not poor enough to not buy you beer in return for lots of DVDs)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 6 May 2006 05:31 (nineteen years ago)

i'm on 2-10 shifts the week beginning monday 22nd, so sunday night would be good. failing that, i can just meet you later somewhere. any day, i think.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 6 May 2006 09:52 (nineteen years ago)

I know ailsa said NOT SUNDAY elsewhere, but it really is sort of my preferred day. Failing that, Monday. I need an answer by lunchtime tomorrow at the latest, so FITE IT OUT please glasgow.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 14:19 (nineteen years ago)

Sunday is OK, really. I might have a job (whoo!) now, so any evening is much of a muchness. My prediction that I wouldn't be too poor to buy you beer may have been a touch rash, however. Will you accept some good wishes and a pint of water instead?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

I would prefer Monday.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

Oh for fuck's sake - FITE!

(In other words, is that "would prefer" or "must be", since Si can't do any other day practically?)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

Well I'm expected at a family thing on Sunday at 5pm and would therefore arrive in Glasgow quite late, if at all, and have to leave quite early as Sunday trains = shit (particularly this weekend as there's a shittier than shit replacement bus service).

Then again I saw you only yesterday so it's not a big deal if I miss out.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 19:48 (nineteen years ago)

OK. I will plan for Sunday, but it will be dependent on flights and hotel availability. As you said, we've just been to Camber.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 20:35 (nineteen years ago)

I need to know too, like NOW, because if, as hoped, I am offered a job, I want to tell them what day I can start on, and hangovers may be a factor.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

Or I could exercise some restraint, seeing as how I am teh poor an' that.

Al or Gerry, can you let me know when a decision is made tomorrow please, so I can negotiate my future career accordingly?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

I can't tell before I check flights and hotels, lunchtime tomorrow is the best I can do. If this isn't OK we'll have to say Monday and Si will just have to turn up when he can.

(This is pretty much since the four of us are the only vocal ones and nobody else seems to be throwing numbers either way)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, I'm not that bothered either way. It's really "taking sides, Onimo vs Grimly", innit, for Monday vs Sunday?

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

My actual real preference is for Sunday now, I think, because I can tell teh new work something, and then start on Tuesday and get myself a long lie on Monday. I shall be boozing with Onimo tomorrow, so I think I can survive not seeing him on Sunday. Also, if Grimly is going, we can form a two-person steering committee and nominate the Station Bar. Is reasonably early doors an option?

I realise you won't know until tomorrow lunchtime. I don't do ILX at work, so will need communication via email or text please...

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 16 May 2006 21:18 (nineteen years ago)

hmm. i'm going to blair drummond safari park with my nephew on sunday now, and i've no idea when i'll be back. certainly in time for some beers, though; i'll probably be able to get to a pub for half-eight. but if monday's better for everyone else, don't worry about it; i'll come along as soon as i get out of work.

see? i refuse to fite. i'm compromising instead. verily, i am the peacemaker. or something. the pissmaker, maybe. certainly after five pints of IPA in the station bar.

is anyone else up for this? is anyone else even reading this thread?
