two weeks pass...

of bitters rather than bitter iirc

― loudmouth darraghmac ween (darraghmac), Monday, 12 December 2016 16:21 (two months ago) Permalink

pint of bitters would certainly do something for me. and 'allo boys i've been away, i've had a bit of a holiday' so it was gratifying to catch up on this thread. but certainly drinking pints with any of the ilxors i've drank and drunk with has always been a pleasure.

and btw darragh i'm thinking of heading to dublin at some point soon so it's a chance for you to break the duck if you're around when i sort my dates out etc.

and aimless, thanks for this:

and while some people irl have said the same thing, it's obv impossible and tiresome to actually gauge, and after all quite often you look in the mirror and have cause to slowly repeat after yourself 'u r a lousy bum', so tend to be a bit cautious about assertions. unless i've had a pint of bitters of course.

Fizzles, Saturday, 18 February 2017 15:04 (seven years ago) link

Be a pleasure. Book well in advance I'm a popular and busy man irl

I don't get it either.

He wasn't far off scapegoat for the ills of the world once upon a time iirc but mordy is ok.

ILX still a prig club

Betsy DeVos Ayes (darraghmac), Sunday, 19 February 2017 02:16 (seven years ago) link

DON: We read some of Mordy's post. We respected his intellect. We thought that while occasionally he was priggish he was usually on the money in terms of his ability to gauge the political scene.

GHOST OF GLENN: Yeah, well, we knew something about pricks. Oh, wait, you said prigs. Well...

DON: Well, yeah.

stevie (the one with cats) is indeed a fine fellow -- a great host to me back in 2005, and the best chocolate chip pancake maker outside of the US itself.

difficult listening hour, Noodle Vague, ShariVari & goole are all super-reliable and frequently inspirational 'go-tos' for me on all matters political, in the context of what is obv. a dark time.

SV & goole I value for always being so well-informed on all sort of current events & trends, and also being able to succinctly and pithily summarise e.g near-eastern domestic politics or obscure factions of online crypto-fascist neer-do-wells for the rest of us.

dlh & NV can do this too, but what I really value them for is their ability to place events in a broader analytical framework and convincingly connect them with some kind of positive leftist narrative of change, but without slipping into sentimental pieties and platitudes. NV also a knack of putting forward analyses which prod me out of some of my more complacent, basically bourgeois reflexive assumptions (but without resorting to challops or falling into the trap of being 'provocative' for its own sake).
