In a show centered on teenage soldiers in a guerilla war you gotta take your chances to illustrate the stakes when they come, is what I thought of that bit. Ditto Hondo's cellmate although his demise was so quick I barely registered that we'd lost a dude.

Mandalore = Europe
This is one of the only planets in the SW canon universe that has more than one observed biomePopulation 100% warfighters who all look alike but have very, very, deadly serious clan shitThey invented and mastered many of the deadliest combat technologies around, except for that oneTHE LIGHTSABER (ps this is a metaphor for the bomb)and they have the lightsaber now, they just call theirs the darksaber, or whateverand it's cool and all but it's not the same, is itno, it's not
Also in the end, they're just fighting over Mandalore, provincial as can be, and not to spoil it, but

the toughest Mandalorian is cloned into a bazillion battalions, but all are rendered moot by a whiny hippie and his chubby robot friend. This metaphor pays for its own ticket, no?

the darksaber was from clone wars, i forgot about it but it's some mandalore leadership symbol from hundreds if not thousands of years ago and was taken from a jedi they defeated in battle

Some of those are actually different planets btw. Sabine's family/clan are on Krownest, which is in Mandalorian space.
BTW they announced at Celebration that next season is officially the final season.

Watching the entire "canon" from CW to the prequels, and Rebels, OBK is basically the one dude who could probably whup Yoda. He didn't get lucky in EP III; he called it how he saw it, and he was right. There needs to be albums about OBK. The only other truly fearless motherfucker in that galaxy is R2-D2 and he's actually an avatar of god, so

In Revenge of the Sith, Yoda tella Kenobi he isn’t powerful enough to face Sidious, which Yoda then goes to do himself. I do not think, at least that point, if at any point, really, could Kenobi beat Yoda.

The orbital bombardment of the base by Thrawn is one of the most terrifying things I've seen in an SW movie in terms of showing actual warfare. Like you genuinely feared for the characters' lives there.

I think the best written/performed part of the Maul/Obi-wan episode isn't even the confrontation -- it's Ezra being so driven to help, and Obi-wan just calmly telling him, "You're not supposed to be here." But it doesn't seem to really bother him that this has happened, just acceptance that this is how things have flushed out.
That was the original series' idea of How a Jedi Should Be that stuck with me. Not that being a warrior makes you less of a jedi, but the monk-like existences of Ben and Yoda not simply an artifact of them being in hiding
― mh, Thursday, 11 May 2017 14:07 (seven years ago) link

I enjoyed reading Bloodline! I tend to agree that a lot of what's in it doesn't really appear so much on screen (which is a flaw of the newer movies, mostly TFA), but it did kind of jibe with what I expected about the First Order. Paramilitary, funded by some secret extremists within the government (Hail Hydra), salvaged existing craft from the Empire, mostly lived underground (literally).

Of the recent stock of writers allowed to dabble in Star Wars I'd put Claudia Gray on a higher tier than the others. The writing has a character focus, the connective tissue quotient is way too high on a lot of the others, or they're given characters that seem ephemeral

Dave Filoni with a new animated series coming this fall: https://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-resistance-set-for-fall-debut
StarWars.com is thrilled to announce that production has begun on Star Wars Resistance, an exciting new animated adventure series about Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. It will premiere this fall on Disney Channel in the U.S. and thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world.Featuring the high-flying adventure that audiences of all ages have come to expect from Star Wars, Star Wars Resistance — set in the time prior to Star Wars: The Force Awakens — will feature the beloved droid BB-8 alongside ace pilots, colorful new characters and appearances by fan favorites including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, voiced by actors Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, respectively. The series was created by renowned Lucasfilm Animation veteran Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels); executive-produced by Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Justin Ridge (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) and Brandon Auman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles); and art-directed by Amy Beth Christenson (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels).“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots” said Filoni. “My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”Marc Buhaj, senior vice president, Programming and general manager, Disney XD, said, “Our colleagues at Lucasfilm have created a compelling narrative for an untold moment in the Star Wars galaxy, and we are excited to partner with them again on this new original series. Star Wars Resistance will bring viewers across generations an engaging story with heart, humor and both new and familiar characters.”In addition to Isaac and Christie, the voice cast includes actors Christopher Sean (Days of Our Lives), Suzie McGrath (East Enders), Scott Lawrence (Legion), Myrna Velasco (Elena of Avalor), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Bobby Moynihan (DuckTales), Jim Rash (Community), and Rachel Butera (Tammy’s Tiny Tea Time).

I keep coming back to the realization that there's a whole generation of folks for whom Clone Wars/Rebels was THEIR Star Wars, and that this must be such an exciting time for them. Like, imagine if all of the anticipation and hype leading up to The Phantom Menace had been in the service of something other than a two-hour George Lucas fart.

Finally finished watching Rebels after all these years, very good stuff. Obv on the whole, way more consistent than Clone Wars (though that had a lot of high points tbf) and weird since I watched Season 7 of CW and the first 2 episodes of Ahsoka before this... but yeah. Pretty worthwhile. All the characters (except maybe Zeb who they kinda stopped giving stories after season 2) got nice arcs and the last 1.5 seasons especially had great momentum
cool that they carried over the Disney/deco art style from the final Jedi Temple story into future properties - current Ahsoka credit sequence, some of the stuff we saw in Visions etc.
