I'm so glad they were philiminated.

I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 03:09 (nineteen years ago) link

It really was the best possible outcome. And the way it happened was SOOOO sweet.

What's ILE's take on Amber & Rob re: Pull Over-gate? Should they have stopped? They could have at least yelled out the window like the other teams did, although the difference between doing that and just driving by was minimal in terms of the outcome of the stage.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 03:13 (nineteen years ago) link

they should have yelled out the window. phil was pissed.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 03:23 (nineteen years ago) link

OK I just realized that there was a whole other hour that I didn't watch.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 03:49 (nineteen years ago) link

This show is great! I had no idea. I didn't watch Survivor at all, but Rob totally rules it. I love that guy. He's the intercontinental champion of all Massholes with mad Boston driving skillz.

Between this and the dude on local public access wearing a Yankees Suck t-shirt and a Red Sox cap and ranting about how unfair it is they charge ya long distance to call from Prahvidence to Wahwick Rhodylin, it was a wicked awesome night of TV.

daria g (daria g), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 03:56 (nineteen years ago) link

Great ending to the episode. Hopefully Deanna will get away from Ray. At least in the last season, Jonathan always claimed he still loved his wife. Ray didn't make any bones about the fact that Deanna just didn't cut it for him. Very very sad.

As for Rob and Amber, they totally should have pulled over and rolled down the window. Losing 30 seconds in a race to pretend they have a heart wouldn't have killed them.

Jonathan (Jonathan), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Lynn & Alex: "There's no room.." (Classic, btw)
Rob: "OK, we'll play it like that then. No more Mr. nice guy."

Riiiiiight.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:08 (nineteen years ago) link

I'd love to see Rob and amber come last on a week when it was non-elimination. First off, none of the teams will help them, and secondly, if they went out begging for money, their "fans" that they seem to find everywhere might be a little taken back, since they have a million dollars. Then again, people seem willing to do anything for these two.

Jonathan (Jonathan), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:18 (nineteen years ago) link

The brothers almost made me cry last night when they finished! And so did Meredith and Gretchen!

I love how Ray and Deanna, even WITH that fast forward, lost, seemingly only because Ray is a douche and was more interested in making Deanna feel bad about herself than grinding corn. What a fuckstick!

Oh, and I love how dude kept saying "Meredith and whatshisname" and finally his wife was like "Meredith is the GUY".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 13:15 (nineteen years ago) link

It was so sweet to see them philiminated. I especially like how Gretchen and Meredith outlasted them, after all of Ray's trashtalking about them being too old and weak to be in the race.

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 13:21 (nineteen years ago) link

ray was fuckin' creepy. total wifebeater material. all that "i have more faith in you then you do" crap. yeah right, buddy. getting beat by the olders was too poetic for words.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 13:33 (nineteen years ago) link

I want to befriend Uchenna and Joyce. I can't believe their relationship was rocky before coming on the show!

The brothers deserve gigantic medals made of candy for PWNing Ray The Fuckstick and his gimpy non-running legs.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 13:38 (nineteen years ago) link

"oldsters" not olders. or maybe just elders. the elders really did make me cringe in the cave and make me kinda wish that they would just go home, but then they pulled it out! you never know.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 13:39 (nineteen years ago) link

i know what really made me cringe: when the oldies left the cave WITHOUT THE CLUE and then wandered around mumbling "Do you have the clue? where's the clue". that was just too pathetic. but i'm glad they proved me wrong.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 13:42 (nineteen years ago) link

ALSO WHAT THE FUCK WAS UP WITH DEANA'S RIGHT EYE???????

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 13:43 (nineteen years ago) link

her eye was scaring me. you think ray popped her one? she always looked sad and blotchy. i felt bad for her.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 13:46 (nineteen years ago) link

What a bunch of douchebags.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 30 March 2005 13:46 (nineteen years ago) link

Ray is appalling - at the end Deanna was like, "he has to learn there's more than one person in this relationship" and I thought, yeah, right. That arrogant piece of shit is never going to learn anything. GET ONE RESTRAINING ORDER.

daria g (daria g), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Deanna has to learn there isn't more than one person in that relationship and move on!
All race long, Ray's been like "She has to start asserting herself" and then she finally did, and he couldn't believe it!

Huk-L, Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:20 (nineteen years ago) link

I liked how they got to the corn-pounding task, cut away, and then OH NO DEANNA HAS A SPLIT LIP AND RAY IS YELLING! Did he punch her? (Ans. No, she obviously smacked herself in the face with her pounder but it was still great editing.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:22 (nineteen years ago) link

You know, for being a big muscular guy, he was really REALLY shitty at that corn grinding thing.

Meanwhile Uchenna and Joyce looked like they were getting TURNED ON watching each other do that. "Ew, yeah baby, WORK THAT STICK."

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:26 (nineteen years ago) link

I love that Uchenna and Joyce HOUSED everyone on that task!

Lynn and Alex suck. I can't wait for them to get Philiminated. STOP OBSESSING OVER ROB AND AMBER AND RACE, YOU FUCKSTICKS.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:30 (nineteen years ago) link

i agree. their moral crusade about how detestable rob and amber were for not stopping was actually almost as bad as rob and amber not stopping.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:37 (nineteen years ago) link

not enough love for the brothers on this thread, btw. they're such DUDES.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:38 (nineteen years ago) link

Rob & Amber not stopping is less detestable than Lynn & Alex going on and on about how they did stop for the next three episodes.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:41 (nineteen years ago) link

When the brothers made that flight and surreptitiously gave each other respeck knuckles? CLASSIC!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:42 (nineteen years ago) link

(I have to admit that when Lynn read the information from their clue and then executed a flawless geek-turn-and-run, I nearly spat out my drink. So funny...)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:45 (nineteen years ago) link

not enough love for the brothers on this thread, btw. they're such DUDES.

Yeah, they're great! I was sad when it looked like they were out of the race, it was fantastic when they were able to beat Ray and Deana at the last minute.

Leon Bluth (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:46 (nineteen years ago) link

well, rob and amber not stopping WAS pretty bad. i like how in the beginning the editors and producers did everything possible to make rob and amber seem really likable, and now that all the possible villains have been eliminated, they're setting them up to be the show's assholes. granted i don't think it would take much. i liked them a lot in the beginning but now they're starting to irritate me. amber's fawning looks at rob whenever he says something remotely cocky/controversial are getting stale.

haha otm, they literally preened and squawked their way to the car.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 14:49 (nineteen years ago) link

i just loved how lynn immediately started gossiping around the ol' corn mill.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:03 (nineteen years ago) link

It wasn't exactly cool of them to deny Rob and Amber the van space though.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:06 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, after all Rob's done for other teams...bribing bus drivers/security guards, stealing cabs, etc.
I don't mind that Rob's being all sneaky and conniving like he was on S:AS, I just think he's a fucking twat when the tables are turned and he acts the victim

Huk-L, Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:10 (nineteen years ago) link

i disagree! if anything i'd like to see people be a little bit MORE cutthroat -- that's what i liked so much about rob and amber early on. and to be honest i don't understand why everyone's giving the old people money -- it's not like they got mugged, they came in last.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:22 (nineteen years ago) link

I think that if they had the same attitude as Rob and Amber ("this is a race and we'll do what we have to to win") rather than the attitude they have ("we hate Rob and Amber because they eat kittens and they already won a million dollars"), Lynn and Alex would not be tiresome douchebags who should fall off of a cliff.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 15:31 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't mind that Rob's being all sneaky and conniving like he was on S:AS, I just think he's a fucking twat when the tables are turned and he acts the victim

He didn't act the victim. Obviously anyone would be pissed off about the taxi incident, so he said his piece about it and then carried on racing. OTOH, when the Gay Boys think somebody has looked at them funny, they complain about it for the next two episodes.

"We would have come in second but we stopped unlike Rob and Amber -- THEY HAVE NO SOUL!!!"

Um, no. Setting aside the screwing over vis a vis the taxi incident, you would have finished in exactly the same spot. The difference between R&A rolling down the window and not stopping is 30 seconds. The difference between doing Water and doing Food at the detour looked to be about an hour.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 16:22 (nineteen years ago) link

Re: Deanna's eye and "she obviously smacked herself in the face with her pounder" (sorry Dan, don't know how to do the italics quotes; new to this & all),

I think I noticed her eye was already bad and swollen the day before, after that (god-awful) fast-forward high-wire stunt (no way I could have done that). I'm thinking it was either (1) bee sting? (2) allergic reaction or (3) stress reaction.

theophilus jones (theophilus), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 16:46 (nineteen years ago) link

(italics: <I>text</I> = text)
(bold: <B>text</B> = text)

I was speaking more about her split lip when I mentioned the pounder than I was her eye. My wife thought the eye thing was a stress-induced facial tic.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 17:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, everyone was getting pretty beaten up in the show last night.

Thanks for the italics help. Now, how do I create hypertext for a link? Is there a FAQ/help I should be reading?

theophilus jones (theophilus), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 17:46 (nineteen years ago) link

(hyperlink: <a href="this is the thread where we talk breathlessly about the best TV show on North American television: THE AMAZING RACE!">a link to this thread</a< = a link to this thread)
(< = &lt;)
(> = &gt;)
(& = &amp;)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 17:52 (nineteen years ago) link

(You usually don't need the HTML literals for & and >.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 17:54 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah, guess I should have learned some HTML basics along the way. Thanks again, TGODP.

Back on topic: Was it really fair for them to give the dudes a new rover? When they crashed it, I thought, "Well, I guess the old couple aren't getting eliminated after all." I mean, I'm glad they're still in it, but should there have been a penalty? Also, why the hell did the old couple decide to go for the cave task? I didn't think they'd make it out of there alive!

theophilus jones (theophilus), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 18:21 (nineteen years ago) link

OOPS I forgot that this board takes URLs to threads this board and automatically turns them into links with the thread title.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 19:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Whoa! I thought for sure that Dudes were eliminated because I thought I saw one of them talking about going home! It was sweeeet seeing them SMOKE Ray during the footrace. I originally didn't like them and their Neander-brows, but then they pull some drama like this and are actually pretty funny sometimes.

As for Rambah: Amber is completely riding on Rob's coattails. Rob remains mad skillz; saying that Meredith pushed Gretchen down in the caves!! As for not slowing down, he saw that there were two teams there and thus knew that whoever had overturned did have some help; if there was only that single team, then slowing down to yell out the window would've been appropriate -- which, mind, is what the other teams did.

Leeeter van den Hoogenband (Leee), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 21:07 (nineteen years ago) link

Is anyone else hoping that next week's episode feature Alex snapping and slamming Alex's head repeatedly in a car door?

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 13:55 (nineteen years ago) link

Did anyone else notice that everyone kept calling the goats "him" and "he" even as they were squeezing milk from the teats?

Huk-L, Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:00 (nineteen years ago) link

All goats are male. Also, by induction, we can prove that everyone thinks Gretchen is a goat.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:02 (nineteen years ago) link

You mean Lynn, Dan? He is a racist ass.

Leon WK (Ex Leon), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:03 (nineteen years ago) link

Now Uchenna and Joyce are the only racers that I don't completely hate.
