Wait, I thought people answered questions like that on amazon because you get an email with the question if you have also reviewed the product and usually oldsters think it's a specific email to them that they must answer.

Yerac, Thursday, 28 June 2018 18:50 (six years ago) link

In that case, awww oldsters. Do you have to be a certain age to get those emails perhaps? I've never gotten one.

mick signals, Thursday, 28 June 2018 18:52 (six years ago) link

I'm just saying I've gotten those emails and ignore them (I don't review products unless it's really really bad). Oldsters probably think it was specifically sent to them.

I've received a few emails recently asking me to review products on Amazon.
I thought it might tie in with leaving feedback etc.
Also received emails asking me to buy products to review and supposedly get the funds back which I've ignored since it sounds like an obvious scam.

Stevolende, Friday, 29 June 2018 11:45 (six years ago) link

They are trying to stop all the positive reviews that come from getting free products sent to you.

If you actively choose to use the toilet/urinal directly next to the only other person in a restroom with more than two toilets/urinals and there's nothing wrong with any of the other toilets/urinals and you're not personally acquainted with the person with whom you've chosen to brush elbows while you do your dirty business, you should have your bathroom privileges permanently revoked imo. Just learn to hold it, ya filthy animal.

i know shopping trolleys/carts are the cliche of IA

but motherfuckers who just leave a trolley in the middle of an empty parking space NEXT TO THE TROLLEY RETURN.

it’s right there.

assholes.

I'm convinced that the people who use the half-sized carts are dicks. They'll walk the cart halfway toward the trolley return then just give it a shove and turn back toward their car without looking or caring where the cart ends up.

When the same dudes who act like owning more than 2 pairs of shoes is a super-weird and suspect frippery make a big deal about how the shoes you're wearing don't 100% go with your outfit or the season or the activity of the day (which they may or may not have bothered to tell you was happening anyway)!

I guess it'd be fine if I only owned my 2 allocated pairs of magic shape-shifting shoes, but I'm such a weirdo I decided to go and spend £££ and hours of trying-on time to get a modest selection of these clunky things which never look right and are always uncomfortable and blister-inducing instead

a passing spacecadet, Friday, 6 July 2018 20:51 (six years ago) link

Shopping, using the trolley provided as in the pull one not the wire mesh one. If I have a lotof heavier goods I would want them to be on the bottom of the trolley so they don't crush things. I would also want them to be at the bottom of what ever I'm using to carry them away but I'm relying on the cashier to give me the heavier items before i can pack the lighter ones taht go above them.
& I'm getting self conscious about the queue behind me. Plus it seemed like she slowed down so taht the heavier items were getting to me very slowly. Seemed like she took a break though what I'm supposed to do with the otehr items while I'm waiting for the bulkier ones I don't know.
Also not sure if there is actually any size of packing area where you can put a bag.
So badly designed cashier areas, and needing to work out how things can be in 2 places at the same time.

so some dickhead american gets to run the country somehow, he blunders into all sorts of comedy punchlines on the world stage, and the whole world’s news media spend FUCKING HOURS EVERY DAY trying to understand his motives, what his plan is, why he’s trying to manipulate people, what does all this meeeean. no. there is nothing to dissect. he’s a pointless back of dicks just yelling random shit and that’s literally all that is happening.

When this all started, my co-workers talked about nothing but how evil this man was. It drove me bonkers.

I finally approached two of them. "Look. You had a colonoscopy this year. So did you. I had one in April. How about we just discuss that today for eight hours instead of what the president has said? It would a more pleasant conversation."

One of them turned to me and said, "Well, I don't know about you, but they put me to sleep during my procedure. Don't know much I can say."

And I was all, "Well that's kinda what I'd like to do myself for the next four years. Just let me sleep through this colonoscopy of an administration."

I eventually moved my desk to the sales department.

answering services for shops that are remote subcontractors and don't know anything about the goods sold.
Would be nice if you had a rapid free way of connecting to people in a different country when you have a time limitation.
JUst had somebody in a foreign town for a short period so if i could have communicated with somebody who was in the know about goods sold in the shop represented I might have been able to track something specific down.
Haven't worked out what a transatlantic phone call costs per minute but didn't want to at the time if i had another way around it.

People who are super into performing how reverent and touched they are by the WTC memorial who were a thousand miles away at the time and think NYC is a vile pit of sin & corruption anyway except for this one spot which is Holy Ground.

Heh, along the same line I got really mad when people tried to defend those kids on a school trip from another state who sang the national anthem at the memorial and the security guards shut them down.

Yerac, Monday, 23 July 2018 18:50 (six years ago) link

in orbit, I have spent some time tracing and examining that complex of attitudes and I think I have an insight.

You're right that yr GOD BLESS THE USA doodz hate both New York and Washington. But I believe the reasoning goes that Al Qaeda just wanted to attack America herself via American symbols, and NY/DC serve as American symbols. In MAGAmind, NY and DC are not part of "real America," but they also assume that Al-Q types don't know that. So Al-Q attacking unAmerican places is effectively the same, to them, as attacking Real American places.

(Not to make anything All About Me but: then as now I live in Arlington Va. I was a mile and a half from the Pentagon on that particular morning, saw the smoke rising from my apartment window, etc. It's never been useful or interesting to point out to people that it's in Virginia and not in D.C., but whatevs.)

nonsensei (Ye Mad Puffin), Monday, 23 July 2018 19:15 (six years ago) link

That seems reasonable but I don't think it's even that complicated: the ppl in question are distant relatives of mine and their friends on fb, all basically Calvinist, a worldview that is unavoidable in West MI even if you don't go to a Calvinist church specifically; I think it's something in the water. They love authority figures and order, so as long as they can imagine that the victims and "heroes"/emergency responders were predominantly white, male, straight or straight-acting (in contrast to other things NYC is known for) and gainfully employed, then their deaths are sanctified and take on almost the significance of religious observance. (One person said, "I was impressed at how well the memorials are respected and protected by security. They were stopping people who leaned or sat on them." -- really Beverly? It's literally carved out of stone, I think it can survive being leaned on.)

I am irrationally angry about all of the well-publicized bans on plastic straws. Screw all of that. It is fake self-congratulatory action that doesn’t address the problem of coffee shop waste

You know what’s bad about coffee shops?

Plastic cups
Coffee growing
Coffee transportation
Coffee roasting
Plastic lids
Dairy production
Sugar production
Everything to do with chocolate
Espresso machines
Air conditioning
Low Employee wages
Lack of benefits
Keeping employees at less than full-time hours
Parking lots
Industrial cleaners

I have no idea what's going on in the office today, but my two coworkers are having serious issues shutting the fuck up. Yes, it's Friday. Yes, it's payday. Great. We all work for the same company, so we're all aware that tomorrow is a day off and we now have a lot more extra money than we did yesterday.

STOP. FUCKING. TALKING. ABOUT IT.

Just stop fucking talking altogether. Shut the fuck up. Nothing that is being said —even things relating to the job— is necessary by any stretch of the imagination.

And so loud. Fuck sake.

My immediate cubicle neighbor went off to me some weeks ago about they can't handle me playing music from my computer speakers, even really mellow stuff (mostly classical and jazz) at a very low volume. So, I was accommodating and I don't play music when they're around. Seriously thinking about just putting on John Coltrane Om at not a high volume, but a noticeable one, when they get back from their lunch break.

Yerac, Friday, 27 July 2018 19:52 (six years ago) link

I just don't get the obvious hypocrisy. This person may not like music (what a fucking weirdo), that's fine.

But to turn around and just basically have a borderline yelling conversation with someone else is just incredibly oblivious; on the cusp of stupidity.

At a previous job, a coworker was playing techno pretty quietly on his computer, and it didn't bother anyone. Except for the boss. He said to the guy, "You're not allowed to listen to music at work! Only I'M allowed to listen to music at work!" whereupon he played a Jimmy Buffett CD on his boombox at full blast. This was in a tech support call center, and none of us could hear the callers, so we all had to put people on hold until our boss had finished his bizarre little tantrum.
