At least 1/7th of the city council of the second most populous city in America is probably not corrupt.

Abs. love (/not love) when newcomers to perennially drought stricken towns get up in arms at a little rain.

Also was just at Santa Anita for some races last weekend and that day two horses had to be put down due to injuries, and today another, which makes 21 in ten weeks. Wtf is going on out there?

omar little, Wednesday, 6 March 2019 02:56 (five years ago) link

regular horse racing activity iirc

steven, soda jerk (sic), Wednesday, 6 March 2019 07:44 (five years ago) link

Why do they put down the horse if it’s only a broken leg?

calstars, Wednesday, 6 March 2019 22:00 (five years ago) link

Hard to let heal for a horse, I would imagine ("stay off it for a few weeks..."), also, of course, the horse will never be a contender again, so of no use to the owner.

I stand by this tweet. We just got word the #GettyFire in LA was caused by a downed tree branch falling on a power line. The grid ought to be a thing of the past, it needs to be decentralized. https://t.co/6m9NLnZdeX

If you need fresh produce and don't want to deal with the supermarkets and/or a multi-day wait from Instacart, etc., check around and see if your local farmer's market is operating. The Pasadena market (in the parking lot of Pasadena HS) was running full-bore this morning - everyone was stocked up.

The SGV was a constant Battle Of Verdun from sundown to 2am or so... I've lived in SoCal all my life and this was the most full-on 4th that I can remember. Genuinely taken aback at just how much ordinance is stashed in the average LA suburb. 1 ton in just one Irwindale house. https://abc7.com/socal-police-cracking-down-on-illegal-fireworks-as-demand-skyrockets/6256295/

Apparently today the air quality is very unhealthy.
