at first it just seems like a shitty half-assed parody that does not feature any actual jokes, but as time goes on, the layers of comedy really accrue in an ingenious way

probably said this in the other thread but Tim's explanation of why he's paying for Ayaka's abortion despite being a staunch pro-lifer is the purest distillation of the right-wing ethos that I've ever heard

I don't know how to explain this to you but the "Stump the Buff" segment where Tim nails Gregg on the Star Trek/San Francisco trivia question is just as dramatic as the scene in Breaking Bad where Hank figures out who Heisenberg is

I thank u, sic, although I spent a long while watching a different, much less complete YT playlist (after starting on the even less complete playlist on that one website) so I just wanted to make sure no one else made my stupid mistake. I give this latest playlist five bags of popcorn and a hundred cups of soda.

The later seasons of Decker aren’t on youtube btw, but iirc they stop interacting directly with On Cinema episodes so it doesn’t stand out badly

(The two Ant-Man movies also don’t appear in the playlist, but do very much affect On Cinema video and twitter content )

forks if you were starting at an early point, try dropping in on a S4 or 5 episode, when the Tim vs Gregg tone is better established & there’s loads of backstory, to see if it pings any better with you

a couple of my old acquaintances recently started a video game podcast. I listened to one episode and thought about On Cinema the whole time. one of the guys has probably played 20,000 hours of video games but has absolutely nothing insightful to say about them, it's so spot on that I've almost come to view Tim & Gregg as real people

Me, I just bore witness to the cancellation of Decker season 3 this evening, so it's difficult to put myself back in the headspace of several years ago when I watched a handful of On Cinemas and said 'IDGI'. Suffice it say, I'm glad I got over myself.

now we will never know if Agent Kington would have defeated Dracula

The effects at Dracula's castle were a whole 'nother level of special. I particularly liked the table that followed Gregg around for a while.

FIFA should totally create a Film Academy to honor the art of biographical documentaries - that was so shamefully overlooked by the fake Hollywood awards - and give the win in all the categories to Melania. The FIFAFA statuettes, which the rules stipulate have to be affectionately nicknamed Giannis by the public, should be 5% taller and more shiny than the Oscars, and they would surely look great in the White House. Imho.

the Totogate segment was classic On Cinema, especially given the meta element of knowing neither of them actually see the movies they're reviewing

I've always understood it as Greg's character is legitimately seeing all the movies but his taste and focus is so bad due to impenetrable personal delusions / priorities that he often is often flat out wrong about what he's seen.

I have no memory of them ever mentioning Tim had a first marriage and kid

in the first couple seasons he was married and got divorced

I don't think it was brought up again after Season 2 so I'd assumed it was retconned out of the show, didn't seem like they were thinking too much about the 'plot' of On Cinema back in those days

seemed to be heavily implied that Aidan was emotionally stunted by his Dad leaving him which made the ending particularly dark, especially knowing what tends to happen to Tim's kids

as for Gregg its kinda hard to say, there have been a lot of moments where he's shown to be a dishonest egomaniac who has no problem lying in order to cover his ass but his central character trait is his inability to understand art on any level, all movies are equally great in his mind

that said I don't think a cameo by Dorothy and Toto would go unnoticed by Gregg, in fact I'd argue that's the *only* thing he would have noticed about the film, I think he just didn't see it because it was a musical

yeah this was my take too. tim does that classic abuser thing where he forces gregg into a situation where he’s defending himself over something totally minor and gregg has too much buff pride to resist the trap and lies when attacked.

wonder if a second Trial of Tim Heidecker is in the cards. normally I wouldn't want a show like this to repeat itself but Tim using Grok Amato as his legal counsel against Amato's twin brother would be incredible, especially since this is a case Gregg is directly involved in, plus it's a good way to bring Toni and Joey P back

saw On Cinema Live last night, what a show! truly recommend seeing it if it comes to your city
