Popcorn Classic is a really useful term for a certain kind of movie.

I thank u, sic, although I spent a long while watching a different, much less complete YT playlist (after starting on the even less complete playlist on that one website) so I just wanted to make sure no one else made my stupid mistake. I give this latest playlist five bags of popcorn and a hundred cups of soda.

The later seasons of Decker aren’t on youtube btw, but iirc they stop interacting directly with On Cinema episodes so it doesn’t stand out badly

(The two Ant-Man movies also don’t appear in the playlist, but do very much affect On Cinema video and twitter content )

forks if you were starting at an early point, try dropping in on a S4 or 5 episode, when the Tim vs Gregg tone is better established & there’s loads of backstory, to see if it pings any better with you

a couple of my old acquaintances recently started a video game podcast. I listened to one episode and thought about On Cinema the whole time. one of the guys has probably played 20,000 hours of video games but has absolutely nothing insightful to say about them, it's so spot on that I've almost come to view Tim & Gregg as real people

Me, I just bore witness to the cancellation of Decker season 3 this evening, so it's difficult to put myself back in the headspace of several years ago when I watched a handful of On Cinemas and said 'IDGI'. Suffice it say, I'm glad I got over myself.

The effects at Dracula's castle were a whole 'nother level of special. I particularly liked the table that followed Gregg around for a while.

Just recently saw some Neil Hamburger footage for the first time since I started watching this show. I don't know how I'd forgotten the extreme disparity between the two sides of Turkington, but it was a stark reminder.

I love that they generally never review actual hits, tentpole pics, oscar winners etc. not even huge mainstream garbage (MCU, Star Wars, Pixar etc) its almost always b-list shit that instantly vanishes from the public consciousness.

I especially like a) when assumes that the first and last names were transposed and b) when he assumes that the name on the card must be a misprint because it's not written in the same way that it left his mouth.

If the mispronunciations are tickling your funny bone, watching Decker might actually kill you. Exercise caution!

see thats something I really love about it, the constant bickering and sniping between them would feel kinda forced if not for the fact that they really do each have dozens of reasons to hate each other. its a very palpable hatred that a lot of comedies use but don't really earn the way this show does

Watching the Trial for the second time and it’s an amazing piece of satire on how Trump won the presidency. Maybe obvious to others, my Australian eyes didn’t see it the first time tho

Tim is genuinely great in how he is able to catch the vibe of a certain type of American guy without going in for obvious parody of specific people. Tim also seems to have a good sense of detecting right-wing trends early, like his character's turn to alternative medicine long before COVID (because of "Obamacare")*

*Like during the Obama administration I noticed the right-wingers in my Washington exurb start to get interested in what had previously been left-coded things like backyard chickens and acupuncture because Obamacare poisoned all our food and medicine.

It really shows up how lame pretty much all other liberal comics’ satire of the trump era is, everything else feels cheap & reactive where this managed to anticipate the bizarrest stuff years in advance and really get into how these guys think

xps tim & Gregg have a Walt-Jesse level toxic relationship at this point, so much ill feeling but they can’t extricate themselves from each other — & there are moments where they reveal they do sort of care for each other a bit, but always in an ultimately abusive way

It’s very funny how they both seem not fully conscious of how much the hatred is driving how they think, like Tim basing his whole self-help cult around the idea that watching lots of films is dangerous or Gregg spinning his resentment of dekkar into a dislike of all music
