oh my god the DKR "Oscar Fever"

― frogbs, Tuesday, 30 July 2019 18:44 (five years ago) link
I've grown so accustomed to my gf coming home, for example, in the midst of that particular DKR performance and being like '...whaaathefuck'. I'm going to miss that almost as much as I will miss the show itself when I'm finally caught up.

"and i think, in our own way, we're all searching for our own lost city of z, and so it's nice to see a movie where we find it"
thanks for posting this one, Brad. been thinking about it all day :)

This year's Oscar special is, uhhh...kinda nightmarish? Tim's commitment is compelling but it's a little less fun to watch when he seems legitimately unwell. Massive dark lols @ the Living Oscar, though.

Okay, it was all worth it to see what sure looked to me like Prokch breaking during Tim's batshit 'Bohemian Rhapsody' performance.

And the umpteenth destruction of the Victorville Film Archives, natch.

I found a discussion online the other day where someone was all 'y'know...I'm starting to suspect that these guys don't actually watch these movies' and people were like 'uh yeah, that's kinda the point' and the op was all 'what's even the point of a show about movie reviews where the reviewers don't watch the movies, why are you wasting your time'. Tim and Gregg would be quite pleased, I feel.Watched the K-Strass saga last night before bed. A+ chutzpah, there, Mark. Quite inspiring.

I know nobody asked, but for me "Decker: Mindwipe" was where I began to suspect this was the most brilliant thing ever
― frogbs, Thursday, 1 August 2019 02:32 (five years ago) link
Hadn't heard the old Windows 3.1 startup/'ta-daa!' sound in ages, before it triumphantly sounded after they 'downloaded' and wiped Decker's memories, which had me in stitches.

i'm pretty sure this is the funniest thing i've ever seen
The effort put into making every non-Tim aspect of the trial 100% convincing was a masterstroke.

tim dipping the paper into the coffee being like "would this paper tell me if this coffee was caffeinated or not" lmao
in a way this show is an incredible indictment of conservative male arrogance and ignorance
― american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 2 August 2019 12:54 (five years ago) link
Yes, a lot of comedians have been exposed as being out of their depth on this stuff in the Trump era but Tim has a great handle on it.
― Chris L, Friday, 2 August 2019 12:56 (five years ago) link
There's a video I can't find right now (I think/assume from Office Hours) where a sad right-wing dude calls in with an agenda and Tim handles him with a calm alacrity I doubt I could muster. He not only gets it, he gets how to confront and dismantle it.

More than in a way- given Tim's (and Vic Berger's) focus on that exact type of person lately I feel most of his character takes direct inspiration. And Decker is straight up an alternate universe where Trump is an even shittier Steven Seagal.

wow tim plagiarized "empty bottle" from axiom, what a hack
― american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 2 August 2019 16:28 (five years ago) link
having missed previous Oscar specials I was a little confused about Mark's voice coming from his comatose gold-encrusted body - what exactly was going on there
― Οὖτις, Friday, 2 August 2019 16:30 (five years ago) link
There was a moment during the 'Empty Bottle' reveal where Axiom suddenly looks totally crestfallen and Tim lost a little of his swagger, this subtle and brief but utterly magical moment where Ax seems to recognize that this monster has taken so much more than just his right hand. And then of course everything goes back to normal immediately thereafter.

Duuuuuude, you can't skip the Oscar specials.
(SPOILER: they nearly killed him during the previous Oscar special when they sealed him in an old-school diving suit with no air supply.)

I didn't "skip" them, they are not streaming on Adult Swim!
I got that he'd been injured/nearly killed, I just didn't understand how his voice was coming out of his body. They had him wired to some contraption...?

If you have cable or a game console or a Roku or whatever, YT is generally available as an app.
