Duuuuuude, you can't skip the Oscar specials.

(SPOILER: they nearly killed him during the previous Oscar special when they sealed him in an old-school diving suit with no air supply.)

COOL DUDE'S ONLY, NO NERD'S ALOUD (Old Lunch), Friday, 2 August 2019 16:35 (five years ago) link

I didn't "skip" them, they are not streaming on Adult Swim!

I got that he'd been injured/nearly killed, I just didn't understand how his voice was coming out of his body. They had him wired to some contraption...?

Οὖτις, Friday, 2 August 2019 20:33 (five years ago) link

They’re on YouTube!

Vape Store (crüt), Friday, 2 August 2019 21:43 (five years ago) link

Also the voice was just clips from his WC fields bits

I dont watch anything on youtube thats longer than 5 minutes, hate watching show or films on a tiny screen

Οὖτις, Friday, 2 August 2019 21:46 (five years ago) link

If you have cable or a game console or a Roku or whatever, YT is generally available as an app.

you can make youtube full screen on a computer, and depending on yr tv, make yr phone play it on a tv

I refuse to watch anything on the internet, my home is VHS-only.

american bradass (BradNelson), Saturday, 3 August 2019 16:52 (five years ago) link

Tongue-twister objection slays me.

I think I've realized my favorite bit part in this entire endeavor is 'James Dean' as Dracula. I need a supercut of his every non-verbal utterance (Aahhh! Ehhh!). And 'James Dean' generally, who comes across as a geriatric juvenile delinquent.

i got the book a few weeks ago. it's good but not absolutely necessary. it does a nice job of laying out the timeline for everything, especially the tweets between tim, gregg and mark.

If you like that book, check out this one:

It's arguably a precursor to On Cinema but as record reviews.

OMG, comatose Decker reacting in o-faced surprise to his foot moving just made me laugh for like a full minute. Mindwipe is gloriously stupid.

Season finale of Agents of SHIELD featured a character sort of returning and ended on the line, 'hey, guys.' Which naturally made me laugh but after reading in Tim's Believer interview that some folks at Marvel are apparently big into On Cinema, I wonder if it wasn't an intentional nod.

S4 of Decker, I love how Tim only uses two expressions: O-face of Surprise/Pursed Lipped Squint of Confidence

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 7 August 2019 15:52 (five years ago) link

It's a meta detail but I really how the very act of portraying Decker seems to erode Tim's cognition (see: Decker barely able to string three coherent words together while conversing with a smooth-talking Louisianan politician also portrayed by Tim).

listen, when you're the creator, writer, director, and lead actor of your own acclaimed action movie-split-up-into-tv-episodes, you don't *need* to memorize your lines

I have a feeling that the path to building a filmography of 200+ roles entails accepting every acting job you're offered, scouring corkboards outside university film departments, stapling your headshot on telephone poles, etc. And in the process I'm sure you wind up in more than a few O_o productions.

Where Is The Univers (Old Lunch), Thursday, 8 August 2019 12:53 (five years ago) link

lmao when he lowkey asks Gregg if he's got the Ant-man director's number

frogbs, Friday, 9 August 2019 14:12 (five years ago) link

I think it all came at me in such a flood that I'm only in retrospect fully appreciating all of the elements of Mindwipe that reflect a four-year-old's understanding of how the world works, e.g. talking underwater, transplanting organs by simply inserting them into someone's body cavity, etc.

Also the offhand joke (in I think Unsealed?) when deceased future Gregg is brought back to life and somehow also restored to what's referred to as his 'normal age' (presumably so he doesn't have to wear old man makeup anymore).
