oh, good, it's not just me - i did eventually get it sorted but it was very confusing for a bit.

i'm particularly bad with actors. most recently i can't differentiate james woods and james spader.

Gary Pettis and Gary Redus. Both outfielders: Pettis played from 1982-1992, Redus from 1982-1994.
Pettis was a much better defender, Redus a much better hitter. They just missed playing together in Texas towards the end of their careers.
