no sarcasm response, thank you tombot! i try not to be sensitive or jealous or solicit praise but i'm gonna be totally honest, i've sort of been lurking on this thread a while just in case somebody is motivated to say something nice about me, so i'm glad you did!

When I first joined ilx 13 yrs ago it was exactly the same time I really started using the internet - I’d literally only used it to check my email once a year. But I got my first computer and dived right in. Not even sure how I found this place. Anyway, I was extremely immature, knew nothing about being *online* in terms of community, was going through a v difficult patch where I wasn’t sleeping or eating on any kind of regular basis, posted a lot without thinking (I hit delete way more often than I hit publish these days). But ilx was generally pretty forgiving of my idiocy and I made some great friends here (still surprises me that anyone wanted to befriend 2007 me), met a bunch of you in person, and ilx has definitely made me a smarter person (although I still feel like I’m the dumbest person on any thread I post to). The last few years my depression-thread buddies have been a particularly amazing source of support.

well i tend to shy away from these threads because i don't have a memory for names and because i have gotten a lot out of the posts of most people here, but i do want to specifically say that two people here, reading about their experiences really helped me a lot when i was in a difficult place - big ups to Eliza D. and Branwell.

Seconded. I arrived here during one form of self-quarantine, viz. post-natal care, will be checking in periodically during this other one, I guess.

Just hoping I enjoy hanging with you during these seeming end times as much as I enjoyed the begin times.

just1n3 your ilx origin story is so great! i also started full time ilx duty around that time, also under somewhat lone internet wolf circumstances. sometimes you're just driftin' on the internet, and then you come along a messageboard and make a post, see what happens. i like that we've been in the same internet town for 13 years! honestly, i think the fact that i haven't shaved since i started feeling weird about 'coronavirus' is giving me this drifter mentality. it's hard to say what ilx was like in 2007, but it wasn't the wild west.

tomboto did something incredibly thoughtful and caring for me a couple years ago, as a surprise during some really dark days for me. i haven't had too many irl tears in general the last several years (which is weird because i used to cry at everything. i guess now that i'm a longtime ilx "drifter", some emotional states have gummed up the works, so to speak), but what he did was no nice, and i felt so undeserving at the time (feeling better now!), it was just...something else. anyway, he was already an all-timer before that but now i'm like robert redford/zack galafanakis nodding and giving the thumbs up in that one clip, in his direction, all the time. *tumbleweed and dust*
