Murray Head
Anthony Head

Although I looked them up and it turns out they're brothers. Still, I always just considered them as one composite being.

The Four Tops
The Spinners

Thank goodness there wasn't another r&b combo from that era called The Dervishes or something.

Unparalleled Elegance (Old Lunch), Thursday, 2 April 2020 14:19 (four years ago) link

I get all of those old vocal groups mixed up - I usually recognise Platters songs as my dad played them a lot.

The Spinners
The Weavers

who are in an entirely different genre but I still can never remember which is which

threnody for the victims of alan shearer (Matt #2), Saturday, 4 April 2020 21:52 (four years ago) link

... aren't they in the same genre? There's another one:

The Peddlers

... a mystery of a band, nobody has ever listened to them since ca. 1972.

Bridge Over Thorley Waters (Tom D.), Saturday, 4 April 2020 21:55 (four years ago) link

i used to have that with

the seekers
the searchers

and still have that problem sometimes with

the new lost city ramblers
the new christy minstrels

budo jeru, Saturday, 4 April 2020 21:56 (four years ago) link

... aren't they in the same genre?

I meant The Detroit Spinners, who were called that in the UK to differentiate them from the folky Spinners. At least I think I meant them. I'm just confusing myself further with all this, I give up.

Brian Dennehy / every actor that looks like Brian Dennehy

― If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Saturday, May 31, 2008 4:34 PM

also i read an article in Premiere in about 1987 once about people getting Charles Durning and Brian Dennehy mixed up and have been doing it ever since.

nickn, Saturday, 18 April 2020 01:23 (four years ago) link

All I could think of was Charles Grodin, but thought that couldn't be right. (Too lazy to "show all" and search.)

Indeed, when it comes to Jeff Chandler and Jeffrey Hunter, I always have to stop and ask myself which one was Jesus, and that would be Hunter - Chandler was too Jewish and looked like he'd wouldn't merely throw the money lenders out of the temple but give them a good doing in the process.

Probably because I never watched either of them when I was a kid, so they kind of blend into one in my non-memory of them.
