some fans just can't be pleased i guess

Hackers (1995) (Will M.), Friday, 15 May 2020 18:35 (five years ago)

i watched the first few Enterprise episodes recently. seems to be entirely

1. vulcan lady is right about everything > captain whines, insists on doing something stupid, manages to half-assedly at least survive > vulcan lady begrudgingly starts to appreciate human stupidity

2. engineer has a bad accent, and not even amusingly like scotty

3. will the vulcan lady get her kit off in this ep

also, would you take a beagle on a submarine? then why are you taking one into space?

mookieproof, Friday, 15 May 2020 19:17 (five years ago)

lol I read this 3 times thinking you were talking about Discovery and wondering what on earth you were on about.

Happy to hear that Pike's getting his own show. I know nothing about Anson Mount but he made a meal out of what could have been a nothing part, so if they write some proper Trek stories it could be good.

Big if imo.

So buttons. (Leee), Friday, 15 May 2020 20:22 (five years ago)

lol i don't think i'm gonna continue. i kinda like the doctor, though -- he's chipper but not in a way that invites murder (unlike neelix)

i'm told the vulcan lady gets the pon farr, despite it being non-canon for females

just some extremely horny showrunning

mookieproof, Friday, 15 May 2020 20:27 (five years ago)

aw i liked it!!!

j., Friday, 15 May 2020 20:56 (five years ago)

whole lot of standing around in decontamination showers in underwear iirc

mh, Friday, 15 May 2020 21:05 (five years ago)

Pretty excited about Pike Trek. Hope it's more optimistic and episodic, but not holding my breath.

Spencer Chow, Saturday, 16 May 2020 02:46 (five years ago)

hope there are lots of worlds

j., Saturday, 16 May 2020 04:41 (five years ago)

They won't be able to resist making half of them other Earths

justice 4 CCR (Sparkle Motion), Saturday, 16 May 2020 04:48 (five years ago)

My household is excited for more Rebecca Romijn as Number One

silby, Saturday, 16 May 2020 05:21 (five years ago)

Pretty sure that's her name, i.e. Lt. Commander Number One.

So buttons. (Leee), Saturday, 16 May 2020 06:20 (five years ago)

would you take a beagle on a submarine

Crimson Tide to thread

one month passes...

hello i am 10 episodes into season 2 and here are my thoughts

1. Captain Pike forever

2. Could watch Michael & Spock play go-fuck-yourself-space-chess forever

3. Did it need to take EIGHT episodes to find Spock? Seriously, that drove me round the bend. But maybe I’m just impatient, the leadup episodes were decent.

4. Can we make Michelle Yeoh fight more? I love her so much

5. TALOS IV!!!!!!! So great.

6. Captain Pike forever. Also down with this Spock. Bring on the spinoff because I am so down with these two actors.

three months pass...

Disco 3 premiere is the sappiest thing I've seen in a while, and I loved it. Stoned Michael is a lot of fun.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this season in that it hopefully won't be as beholden to established canon as it's been in the first two seasons (and which Picard suggested from, too), which seemed like they were overcompensating (natch) for something and had to prove they were real Trek by throwing in as many references to previous series, instead of working on e.g. better world building. Interestingly, Lower Decks manages to drop a ton of references while both creating its own identity and training an undeniably Trek ethos.

I want to luhbahguh babum gum (Leee), Saturday, 17 October 2020 21:43 (four years ago)

haha yes more stoned michael

mookieproof, Saturday, 17 October 2020 22:03 (four years ago)

otm

she has the BEST reactions

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 17 October 2020 22:40 (four years ago)

One bit where she's hiding behind a pillar, pops out to take a shot, pops back and has this "....fuckin rite!?" look/grin that made me and B crack up.

It was a good episode! Wish they hadnt called that guy Book though, thats Firefly's thing!

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Saturday, 17 October 2020 23:00 (four years ago)

I was a bit thrown because he played exactly the same character with his "strong Manchester accent" in Supergirl last season.

But much more Stoned Michael please.

pedantly admonishment (aldo), Saturday, 17 October 2020 23:20 (four years ago)

I kind of agree with the AV Club's complaint that Discovery is too focused on Michael. But I also very much enjoyed stoned Michael. I've never seen Sonequa Martin-Green smile so much.

trishyb, Sunday, 18 October 2020 11:19 (four years ago)

Hopefully they keep playing with that now that she’s far away from any Vulcans

mh, Sunday, 18 October 2020 15:15 (four years ago)

Good episode. My expectations for the season remain low, given how S2 and Picard S1 turned out.

wasdnous (abanana), Sunday, 18 October 2020 20:48 (four years ago)

S2 was good idk why everyone rags on it

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 18 October 2020 21:11 (four years ago)

Season 2 was great! Picard was naff but I enjoyed it regardless

Chuck_Tatum, Sunday, 18 October 2020 21:51 (four years ago)

yeah i didnt like Picard that much

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 18 October 2020 23:32 (four years ago)

weird that phasers seem to be less effective in the future

mookieproof, Friday, 23 October 2020 16:15 (four years ago)

They seemed to work well in the first episode

I got the impression the second episode guy just had the power cranked way low because he’s a sadist who likes microwaving people

mh, Friday, 23 October 2020 16:48 (four years ago)

yeah that was my take too

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 23 October 2020 17:01 (four years ago)

ah

mookieproof, Friday, 23 October 2020 19:03 (four years ago)

Two decent episodes in a row! And Kurtzman is a credited writer on both, whaaaaaat

wasdnous (abanana), Saturday, 24 October 2020 00:26 (four years ago)

i know it’s been said before but i really love Tig Notaro in this

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 00:44 (four years ago)

she's great but is never going to escape the B story, unfortunately

mookieproof, Saturday, 24 October 2020 01:42 (four years ago)

appreciate the weirdo security officer with the breathing orthodontics much more after hearing her canadian accent

mookieproof, Saturday, 24 October 2020 04:47 (four years ago)

Getting through S2 but I do not like dirty indie rock boy Spock.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Saturday, 24 October 2020 04:57 (four years ago)

how dare u

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 05:00 (four years ago)

I don't want my Vulcans to hit me up for an American Spirit.

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Saturday, 24 October 2020 05:01 (four years ago)

btw is detmer possessed or did she just have an undiagnosable concussion we will never hear of again

mookieproof, Saturday, 24 October 2020 05:10 (four years ago)

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 05:17 (four years ago)

mookieproof, Saturday, 24 October 2020 05:27 (four years ago)

lol rmde

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 24 October 2020 05:28 (four years ago)

fair

mookieproof, Saturday, 24 October 2020 05:28 (four years ago)

I am enjoying Discovery - it's very exciting, and the production values are through the roof... but it still is not really trek to me, and pretty evident that the producers of the show will never care about that. I was skeptical about Lower Decks but it plays more like a classic Star Trek show than anything they've put out since Discovery started.

justice 4 CCR (Sparkle Motion), Saturday, 24 October 2020 14:36 (four years ago)

my theory as to why burnham had longer hair in the promo photos was right!

mh, Saturday, 24 October 2020 17:47 (four years ago)

Teenage genius queen rules

Donald Trump Also Sucks, Of Course (milo z), Sunday, 25 October 2020 05:18 (four years ago)

but it still is not really trek to me

i understand what you're saying, but i don't think it's fair at all. there have been literally 700+ episodes of star trek even before this one started; merely to find something new to say is an accomplishment.

discovery at least adheres to the prime directive far more than kirk ever did.

and for people complaining about too much burnham, georgiou is the real star. starfleet dorks are entirely predictable but yeoh is not
