Which one did the "dreamboat" song though? which one was on panel shows in the mid 60s and chummy with the beatles? which one died tragically early from cancer? I can find out these things, I cannot retain them.

I can identify them in the context of their respective work but if they were part of a lineup I'm not sure I could tell the difference between Russell Hitchcock and Leo Sayer and John Panozzo and Ron Palillo and Richard Simmons and Slim Goodbody.

Aldi

Oh man. This is one that's so ingrained in me, I didn't even realize I was mixing the two up.

pplains, Thursday, 17 September 2020 13:27 (four years ago) link

Yeah they are both new to my area and I haven't been to either one.

I vaguely know that one of them has hilariously on-point mimic packaging for its store-brand knockoffs. Like Mr. Pepper soda and Ireo cookies and Kepler Gnome cookies - I just can never remember which one that is.

Aldi used to sell biscuits called Disco Biscuits, but they have sadly been renamed.

Madchen, Thursday, 17 September 2020 14:43 (four years ago) link

They have been renamed Groovy Biscuits.

The other day a friend mentioned Stevie Ray Vaughan in a context that really confused me until I realized I was actually thinking of Steve Vai.

Also The Jesus Lizard and Half Japanese, apparently.

Yeah I think I've been making the Stevie Ray Vaughn / Steve Vai mistake in my head for a long time

Jan And Dean and Ben And Jerry. Obviously I know the difference but subconsciously they're the same , the association goes:

Jan and Dean -> Pearl and Dean -> going to "the cinemas" as a kid -> buying icecream in tubs -> Ben and Jerry

I used to mix up Patrice Rushen and Patrick Moraz because one of the former’s early solo albums has proggy cover art so I thought “oh yeah, keyboardist from Relayer

Reminded by a question on Pointless today: every time I try to think of the name of the US flagmaker Betsy Ross, I come up with the name of the actress Fannie Flagg, and cannot get any further than that. Not exactly "getting them mixed up", just an incredibly stupid quirk of my brain.
