I'm pretty cool with just continuing to treat the pre-Disney material and the Filoniverse as the only SW stuff worth paying attention to. Granted, wrt the latter that would still have me on the hook for half of these new shows.

I just wound up watching the various Star Wars animations over the last month or so. ON Clone Wars season 5, finished Rebels and Resistance.I noticed there seemed to be a problem with the timeline between teh end of Rebels and Mandalorian assumed Rebels should be canon to Mandalorian. BUt something a little off. Won't say more cos may be too much spoiler.
Found Resistance quite amusing and liked the animation. So wouldn't mind more of it or more done by the team working on it.
Haven't finished Clone Wars and only realised that Season 7 was made several years after the bulk of it recently. have only watched the first 2 episodes of that so far. Assumed since there was a gap it wouldn't be too much of a spoiler to the last few seasons of the earlier stuff.
― Stevolende, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:12 (three years ago) link
S6 and S7 of Clone Wars are definitely worthwhile - especially the last one - mostly dedicated to trying the series into the timeline of Revenge of the Sith. There are some plot threads from S6 that pay off in S7, so I don't know if would just skip it. Those last two seasons are short, anyway.
― Nhex, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 15:37 (three years ago) link

They pop up earlier in Clone Wars, is that the 1st 2 episodes of S7?Obviously long hair is supposed to be a Rambo.Did hope it had some merit, could have been something semi worthwhile but also could just be a toy tie in.There have been gropups like this that have been interesting in terms of tensions etc but probably just going to be gung ho and very puerile.
― Stevolende, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 17:19 (three years ago) link
Those are the same characters from the beginning of S7. Thought that arc was OK so I'm down for this. Plus, more Fennec!
― Nhex, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 18:02 (three years ago) link
There is something about the style of animation of these Star Wars series that makes them unwatchable to me. I'm not sure what it is, too much in the video-game cutscene circa mid 00s style maybe. It's just ugly to me.
― silverfish, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 19:37 (three years ago) link
I suspect we're getting more of her in flashback scenes -- IIRC the trailers showed one with her already and there are definitely others, the Jedi master who offed himself in the second episode is clearly the kid in the one trailer whose eyes go black.
― Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 5 June 2024 15:16 (one week ago) link
definitely feel like this is a less adult, more family friendly show, compared to things like Andor, but one with a sufficiently dark storyline that is exploring a part of Star Wars history previously only explored in the EU or comics, so I'm here for it.

Heez - I think so? all deaths are relatively bloodless (so far), much like the OG series, a few intense scenes of a character's homeland burning, but seems pretty tame compared to like Andor. also gets going relatively quickly, with an intense opening fight sequence in the pilot.

I like how they’re obfuscating a thing that happened in the purpose of revealing the truth of what happened years ago to kick off the events that led to this plot, but the plot is a little loosey-goosey so far and doesn’t know if it’s developing characters or teasing exposition and ends up falling a little short on both. The addition of “bit there’s THIS GUY” at the end of the first seemed like a clumsy course correctionYou know I love these little jedi/sithy tales, though
― ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Thursday, 6 June 2024 02:32 (one week ago) link
The Jedi are sooooo boring! Obi Wan was kind of cool in the first film and Yoda was ok but that was plenty. All the ones we have met since then have been snoozefests.
Having said that I watched both eps of this happily enough - whereas I didn't get more than 1 ep into the Ahsoka one.
― Cognosc in Tyrol (emsworth), Thursday, 6 June 2024 04:54 (one week ago) link
every single Jedi who gets more than two minutes of screen time has beef with the order, is portrayed as a foot soldier or apologist of the order, or gets just flat-out eliminated in all the media, really. it’s a franchise that pays a lot of lip service to the nobility and neutrality of these warrior monks but that’s a pretty surface reading
― ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Thursday, 6 June 2024 05:12 (one week ago) link
This was fun and easy-to-follow without being simpleminded like Mandalorian can be. I don't really know my Star Wars or High Republic lore -- I haven't even seen the JJ trilogy! -- you could have told me this was set in the present and I would've been none the wiser.
I don't think the lead actor (Osha/Mae) is very good at her line readings, but it's not getting in the way of anything. I don't think they did her any favours putting her next to Carrie-Anne Moss's great cameo in the first scene.
― Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 6 June 2024 11:27 (one week ago) link
But this feels miles better already than Mando/Boba/Ahsohka. Andor, which I'm starting to think is one of the greatest TV shows of the 2000s (and I'm not a Star Wars fan) is a whole other thing.
― Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 6 June 2024 11:29 (one week ago) link
Did we all watch the same thing? i thought this looked fine but was clunky as all get out. Liked the kung fu elements but that's about it. The end of episode 2 felt very Krofft Super Stars/ Far Out Space Nuts.
― completely suited to the horny decadence (Capitaine Jay Vee), Thursday, 6 June 2024 11:58 (one week ago) link
I was originally not interested in watching this at all but once I saw that Leslye Hedland directed and looked at some of the cast I got kinda intriguedI have to say I liked these first two episodes. Story is nice & contained & has enough tension & intrigue to keep me interested, characters are well defined but also fairly simply-drawn on the surface. no one stands around giving boring exposition-dumps & i don’t have to care about a fuckin magic sword or a trade embargo or a bunch of THINGS. of all the spinoffs i preferred 1st season Mando or the Andor series … this doesn’t have quite the same level of uniqueness stamped on it yet but at least it’s not trying to make me watch a cartoon no-one cares about except Reddit nerds. so yeah, i’m down for this so far. :D

― Roz, Wednesday, 12 June 2024 13:11 (six days ago) link
I struggled more with the execution of some scenes and the abruptness of the ending. what I did like was the clear depiction that the Jedi were lying that they thought the planet was uninhabited, showing Sol clearly tracking the sisters in the woods, as well as the depiction of non-Jedi interpretations of the Force, which felt very similar to themes explored in Last Jedi
