frogbs, Monday, 26 April 2021 03:36 (four years ago)

man, what a show

eisimpleir (crüt), Monday, 26 April 2021 03:43 (four years ago)

so did everyone's stream lock up when the accident happened? feels like maybe the stunt didn't go off as planned and they're gonna be filming something to fill it in on replay

frogbs, Monday, 26 April 2021 03:47 (four years ago)

The main stream locked up but Gregg's stream did not. I figured it was intentional.

eisimpleir (crüt), Monday, 26 April 2021 03:48 (four years ago)

I think I also saw a bit of a jump cut in Gregg's stream so that part might have been prerecorded?

also I'm pretty sure the cake was supposed to fall? he held that at quite an angle

frogbs, Monday, 26 April 2021 03:57 (four years ago)

Apparently you could hear on Gregg’s stream during Manuel's tribute segment a couple words of out of character coordination of the show with Tim before Gregg muted his stream.

Van Halen dot Senate dot flashlight (Boring, Maryland), Monday, 26 April 2021 03:58 (four years ago)

so are we to assume that LaRue is with Tom Chaplain right now

frogbs, Monday, 26 April 2021 04:10 (four years ago)

tim said during the credits that larue was injured but going to be okay. i hope that's true

eisimpleir (crüt), Monday, 26 April 2021 04:15 (four years ago)

btw some pretty interesting plotlines regarding Pastor Lewis that seemed to be...not yet fully explored

frogbs, Monday, 26 April 2021 04:23 (four years ago)

okay so i'm confused, i have HEI network sub, and there are streams for both tim and greg's i can rewatch.... should I have two screens on the go? And how many minutes before Tim's did greg's start to try to sync them?

or am i overthinking completely and i should just watch them one after the other

Hmmmmm (jamiesummerz), Monday, 26 April 2021 13:27 (four years ago)

I'd say a sync up is essential to the experience. Kinda surprised they haven't added that as an automatic option yet.

Judi Dench's Human Hand (methanietanner), Monday, 26 April 2021 13:32 (four years ago)

idk how long they'll leave this up but there's a dress rehearsal on the hei network

frogbs, Monday, 26 April 2021 15:27 (four years ago)

Gregg started earlier than Tim with a showing of the Popcorn Classic "The Affairs of Cappy Ricks", but you can try to sync them a few minutes into Gregg at Doc's house, when Gregg and Tim are talking to each other on the phone on air.

Van Halen dot Senate dot flashlight (Boring, Maryland), Monday, 26 April 2021 15:40 (four years ago)

thanks, will try it out later with a pair of laptops

Hmmmmm (jamiesummerz), Monday, 26 April 2021 16:04 (four years ago)

That dress rehearsal’s so interesting early on, getting to see everyone interact as themselves.

too cool for zen talk (Eazy), Monday, 26 April 2021 16:27 (four years ago)

its so wild. i clicked into it randomly and tim was explaining to toni how the pastor was cut out of the show bc the performer they cast didnt want to get tested o_0

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Monday, 26 April 2021 16:53 (four years ago)

yeah it definitely felt like Pastor Lewis & Tim meeting in the afterlife was supposed to be a bigger story, the whole "she didn't want to be here because of you Gregg" thing didn't make much sense to me

frogbs, Monday, 26 April 2021 17:10 (four years ago)

what's the best way to watch this after the fact. There are two streams that need to be simulcast?

Bongo Jongus, Monday, 26 April 2021 17:22 (four years ago)

ah sorry I should've checked a few posts up

Bongo Jongus, Monday, 26 April 2021 17:22 (four years ago)

back in the hei life again

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Monday, 26 April 2021 18:20 (four years ago)

Gregg’s stream ostensibly started 14 minutes before Tim’s (but in practice was running a few minutes late, and lagged more as it went on). Try starting them with that split, and you can pause to sync them later if it doesn’t line up right.

bobo honkin' slobo babe (sic), Monday, 26 April 2021 18:45 (four years ago)

dang it, the rehearsal stream was taken down (at least for non HEI network subscribers)

Judi Dench's Human Hand (methanietanner), Monday, 26 April 2021 19:01 (four years ago)

The Father? What's the sequel, The Son? Followed by The Holy Spirit? Now that's a movie I'd see.

frogbs, Monday, 26 April 2021 21:34 (four years ago)

I think I also saw a bit of a jump cut in Gregg's stream so that part might have been prerecorded?

can confirm that i didn't hallucinate this

eisimpleir (crüt), Monday, 26 April 2021 22:46 (four years ago)

one thing I really love about this series is how all the various parts are played by actors from totally different backgrounds with varying levels of acting skill. including a bunch of people you'll never see in a comedy show again. what other show has a cast like this?

frogbs, Tuesday, 27 April 2021 04:07 (four years ago)

the real MVP is joe estevez. his improv skills are underrated. although it's impossible to work out how much is scripted and improv.

Hmmmmm (jamiesummerz), Tuesday, 27 April 2021 09:07 (four years ago)

I doubt much of anything that they have Estevez do (outside of Decker) is scripted in terms of learning lines, but iirc he's briefed more than the other regulars on the overall plot.

You get the impression, by contrast, Michael Matthews was given basically no prep for this: while his glee and confidence as Laroux in earlier stuff sell the character as created, here it felt like the actor was told nothing, so his own haplessness at improv sold Laroux' out-of-depthness.

bobo honkin' slobo babe (sic), Tuesday, 27 April 2021 09:46 (four years ago)

during "The LaRoux Report" there's the part where Gregg says "this report has no legal standing" and he goes "yes, it does" and that gets both Gregg and Tim to break so I imagine that line was ad-libbed

agreed though that Joe is the best, he's kind of the perfect companion for both of them - he's appeared in 200 movies but doesn't have anything interesting to say about any of them, and he's good-natured and affable enough to put up with Tim. plus he's enough of a D-lister to genuinely appreciate any kind of show who would want to honor him. he's probably my favorite guest on the show.

Toni is also very good, her character is very recognizable but not something you see represented a lot on screen. very dark humor to the bits where she's like "uh-oh, Tim's mad at me again!" and just heads to the bar (despite possibly being pregnant). only part of that character that doesn't work for me is her son who is way way too good looking to be a pissbottle gamer
