make Jenny Durkan ambassador to Belarus

i think that's the situation in carribbean islands and second tier european countries, but ambassador to india or japan is a real job, the kind you give to a guy who was on your VP selection committee and in the running for transportation secretary in the mistaken belief they don't suck. but yeah, rather india than LA from my POV.

Having to interact at all with Modi is some kind of punishment.

Embarrassing that we even still have an Indian embassy frankly
it's very nice!

I think Japan ambassador is a bit more important these days, with all the N Korea shenanigans and the stuff in the South China Sea going on.. not just a Siberian appointment to keep him out of the public eye

This is a bad example since Democrats held the House, no?

The House still has the capacity and the authority to investigate the Capitol insurrection, including subpoena power. Pelosi has indicated that if the bipartisan commission was scotched by the Republicans, she'd be open to passing that task on to a House committee, under full Democratic control. The main problem there is that it will eat up time and energy that could be used on other legislation, but if the Senate is going to filibister to death every bill out of the House that becomes a non-issue.

xp otm
as josh marshall often points out, under the current setup the minority party doesn't even have to show up or exert any effort in order to filibuster. the final vote was 54-35 - they didn't even have to put up 40 votes today!
in fact, these days they barely even have to say they'll filibuster in the first place! it's just assumed that they will.
