Hope you all feel better JCLC.

I took one 500mg tylenol which just about knocked my symptoms out, so this feels doubly stupid that I'm going to miss out on Christmas with the family for this.

I'll quit the interloping now the 2nd LFT gave a negative, just got a shit cold it seems. All the best to the stricken ones itt, peace out.

Peace calz. Watch out though, 2 weeks ago I get like this and got a few negatives. Even after that and my booster, it’s still gone and bloody got me.

Well I panicked a minute because while I do have food at home, I figured a top up on essentials wouldn't hurt. The local supermarket's next delivery slot is the 5th January(!) Luckily a mate has kindly volunteered to help out, but seriously what a nightmare this Covid/Christmas perfect storm is turning out to be

Too late for Koogs but if you live alone (in England) and have to self isolate, you can have an NHS volunteer get your shopping or a prescription for you. That includes people who have tested positive, it’s not just for people who are vulnerable/shielding. I expect there’s a similar set-up in the other UK nations.

I came down with symptoms (v mild sore throat, v mild congestion, and sinus headache) yesterday, so I am probably not leaving today for my parents as planned for Christmas. I hope to get a couple rapid tests from the local pharmacy when they supposedly arrive at noon. CVS is booked out on testing everywhere within 45 minute drive (at least) through Monday (at least).

My wife and I were just joking the other day that she was going to be the last person on earth with covid due to how little she is around others; now there probably is no point in quarantining given our contacts already and the small size of our house. The coordination with local authorities regarding quarantine described by UKers, haphazard and annoying as it may be, seems like a pipe dream here.

Spending 3-4 hours so far today trying to even find testing so I can see my parents really puts me in the holiday mood. Testing is completely fucked.

Like something out of a Hallmark Holiday Movie, a Christmas angel (friend) came out of nowhere last night and offered me an extra home test - it was positive :(

Last night I was thinking how strange it was that I'd received very little information about what to do next after my PCR: Just a message saying my test was positive and to register my self on their Covid app which I don't have. No guidance about self-isolating at all. If I didn't know better, I could well have been walking around as normal infecting people.
This morning, at 8am, three days after my positive test result, I was woken by a text from Track and Trace telling me I had to self-isolate and asking me to fill out a questionnaire.
I was feeling tired and groggy and not really in the frame of mind, so I went back to sleep. At 11.30am I received a follow up text asking why I hadn't filled out the survey yet. Pretty demanding of them considering how long the first message took and also considering in supposed to be suffering from a killer virus FFS.

I'm really missing my family today, and tomorrow will be harder. Just gotta keep telling myself others are in the same boat and many have it a lot lot worse.

Also feeling pessimistic about being able to get out of quarantine earlier than 10 days. My friends who also caught it a bit earlier than me are still producing positive LFTs well after their 7 days of isolating

I never even heard from T&Trace when my son's best mate was positive and the mum told me she'd given my number to T&T. What's the point of it if it doesn't do its job?

Hope you manage a decent one tomorrow everyone.

Somehow managed to avoid the ‘Rona so far feel like our luck might be up soon.

My wife and I had a 28 week scan today that we expected to be 30 mins but ended up being 5+ hours of waiting around. Everyone waiting was masked but there was some pretty bleak coughing going on and no real option to escape if we wanted our scan to go ahead. Either way, have had negative LFTs for now so Xmas is still on, even if it’s just me and my heavily pregnant wife :)

My wife had cold symptoms a week ago (sore throat, congestion) and tested negative for COVID on Sunday. Then on Christmas Eve, she started experiencing pain in her left eye that she thought was a scratched cornea. It got so bad on Christmas Day that we left my mom's house (40 mins away from ours, in the suburbs) after brunch and went to an urgent care clinic, where they couldn't find anything visibly wrong with her eye but gave her a COVID test while she was there...and she tested positive.

After dropping her off at home, I went to get tested myself, and I tested negative. So now we are quarantining in separate rooms. She is feeling somewhat worse (flu-like symptoms) and still has the eye pain, which she thinks might be conjunctivitis and related to COVID. But we are both triple-vaccinated and hopefully will be fine.

I'm just feeling kind of gobsmacked by all of it. I spent Christmas Eve afternoon feeling anxious about the fact that we would be seeing relatives the next day (in addition to my mom, we were originally planning to see my wife's extended family, about 8 people, for dinner). Apart from dining indoors a handful of times, we have both been very cautious. We both work from home and spend the vast majority of our time here. So it's not clear where my wife would have caught it, except maybe while running errands (but even then, she would have been wearing a mask).

And I'm also just feeling lonely and disoriented. I almost wish I'd tested positive so we wouldn't have to be apart. (I found some at-home tests, so I'll test myself again in a day or two.) I slept on the couch last night, but couldn't really sleep. Our condo feels quiet, even though we're both here. I dunno, living through a pandemic for the past two years was depressing on its own, and now experiencing it first-hand is even more so.

fwiw when i tested positive recently my wife tested negative but we didn’t bother trying to isolate in our (small) house. we figured A) she’d already been plenty exposed to me B) she was triple vaxed so any repercussions would be mild. in the event she just kept testing negative anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is what we've been doing. Wife so far hasn't felt a thing (she just did a 10+ mile trail run).

I've been battling though fatigue and cold symptoms. Will be leaving the house tomorrow for a PCR test to confirm the rapid test.

One thing I find difficult is the feelings now that I've tested positive. Watching friends on facebook seemingly get away with far riskier behavior for months on end (flying all over for fun, eating out inside, seeing people) than what I've done. Now maybe they have gotten the virus at some point and just not mentioned it, but it honestly pisses me off that I barely did anything and got this stupid virus. Whatever, I'm going to be fine.

Thank u VegemiteGrrl. I hope y'all ITT are doing alright. I've now joined the Rona Roommates Club, too: I got sick the day after receiving my booster, a week ago today. At first I thought it must've been a bad reaction to the shot, but my partner Jasmine got sick as well, two days later, and she tested positive once we finally acquired a (now difficult to come by) home kit for ourselves.

Missing Christmas celebrations sucked. I still feel exhausted and nauseous, today. I guess getting a vaccine and the bug at the same time makes the symptoms especially bad? My spirits have been good but today's been depressing. I guess the shittiness of this situation is finally wearing on my and I hope we'll start feeling better, soon.

It hadn't occurred to me that *gasp* you could test to figure out when it's actually safe to stop isolating. I figured I'd be free 10 days after first symptoms, per the prescribed wisdom.

davey, Monday, 27 December 2021 11:12 (two years ago) link

I'm reading hints that on one of the morning shows Fauci will recommend lowering the isolation time if you're vaccinated.

ma dmac's fury road (PBKR), Monday, 27 December 2021 12:14 (two years ago) link

The UK guidance is that you can stop isolating after 7 days if you can produce two negative LFTs within 24 hours of each other on the last two consecutive days.

Urbandn hope all ye who enter here (dog latin), Monday, 27 December 2021 12:56 (two years ago) link

(but that was only introduced last week)

I think that might just be for England for the moment, not yet applicable in Scotland at least.

Got a positive Day 2 PCR yesterday after coming back from visiting family I hadn't seen in two years. Daily negative LFTs before and during the trip, and I'm still getting a negative now. No symptoms. Since PCRs can detect the virus weeks after infection, it could be I had it a while back without realising. Or maybe I just got it and haven't become infectious yet. Fuck knows. Gotta isolate now anyway, missing more family stuff and all that, but it's weird knowing that if I hadn't gone abroad I wouldn't have a clue that I'd ever been infected.

I'm almost a week in and still feeling pretty rotten. Would love to be done soon - not sleeping well isn't helping.

ma dmac's fury road (PBKR), Tuesday, 28 December 2021 22:41 (two years ago) link

So after two days of feeling fine and a negative LFT yesterday morning, I was starting to believe I'd be sprung from prison early according to the English rules. Sadly this morning my LFT came out with an immediate bold red T line, which means no early finish for me. I've also started feeling slightly lousy again - nothing serious but a slightly tight chest, the odd feeling of my heart racing and the occasional brainfog. Just hoping it's not Covid coming back or some sort of chest infection.
But yes, if all goes well tomorrow should be my last day of isolation

Urbandn hope all ye who enter here (dog latin), Tuesday, 28 December 2021 22:53 (two years ago) link

nothing serious but a slightly tight chest, the odd feeling of my heart racing and the occasional brainfog.

This is me the last 24 hrs exactly.

ma dmac's fury road (PBKR), Tuesday, 28 December 2021 23:41 (two years ago) link

Hmmm... It's nothing too concerning, just don't want it to become a chest infection or anything like that. Today should officially be my last day of isolation.

So apparently LFTs are pretty unreliable for some time after having caught Covid and can show up as positive for up to 90 days. Is there any guidance on this, e.g. how soon after you recover one might catch it again
