Just finished the 5th Oscar special and Mark’s emergency was one of the funniest thing they have ever done.

His role as a waiter in season 9 (or was it 8) kills me as well. “PUT IT ON THE TABLE”.

yeah I've rewatched that bit a few times, it's amazing. I feel like had I saw that live I might've actually been fooled for a few seconds that something happened to Mark

Echoing everyone, Mark is their secret weapon.

i watched his first appearance on the 2nd oscar special last night and the debut of mark's chaplin impersonation + tim belligerently telling him to talk had me rolling on the fucking floor

mark's chaplin was absolutely perfect, straight out of the box

impersonating the Three Stooges one at a time is such a next-level bit. I love how every Oscar Special has at least one section where Tim can't hold it together and it always seems to involve Mark

also the fact that he's constantly slipping in and out of the WC Fields voice

i'm on season five, right in the middle of the jacksonhole storyline (hog shots!!!), and the funniest thing in the world is tim, legally blinded after getting into an accident on his (stationary) motorcycle, having the movie descriptions piped into an earpiece because he'd rather that than gregg read them, and of course this makes them far longer and more riddled with errors

or in s5e7 when two minutes in tim says "thanks for watching" and the lights dim before they review any movies

There was just a live Q&A for Hei Network annual subscribers with Tim, Gregg, Eric Notarnicola, Vera Drew, Andrew Porter, Justin Gaynor. It was a rare appearance by Gregg out of any character (though he was calling in from his car). Some of the things they covered:

They mentioned that a lot of the characterization in general comes from the wardrobes first. Gregg does some of the eBay buying for the Gregg character's wardrobe, and there may be a Glenn Beck-inspired look for Tim in the future. Tripp Spencer came from Gregg just deciding to get cornrows because his filming was done, and then needing to do more filming.

The Hei Network gives them a lot more freedom than Adult Swim, but also new stress of being the ones who have to decide what their budget limits are

The first season of Xposed is coming "very soon." Tim talked about how much he enjoyed the Xposed pilot and laughed crying watching it.

The 7 Minutes in Heaven idea is still going to be produced.

They have more ideas for Decker, but still don't own the rights for it. But they're going to eventually make what is essentially more Decker under the new name John Jacob Dennicker.

The HEI Points form was just written as a joke by Tim off the cuff for fun, and doesn't seem like it will have any impact on anything.

One of the plot ideas they had for when (the fictional) On Cinema was owned by Chaplin's was that Chaplin's would be purchased by an oil company, and as a result On Cinema would be filmed at a gas station to air on those mini video screens that play when you fill your car up at the gas pump.

Vera Drew's personal view is that neither the Tim nor Gregg characters actually watch any of the movies they "review."

Gregg mentioned that they did have an idea to definitively end the show at the end of season 10 in a way that there was "no coming back from." Eric Notarnicola did mention that he personally had an idea to make everyone die from Gregg's car in the Oscar special but he didn't run it past anyone.

Most of the show is done in two takes, but there are also a number of single takes. Most of Mr. America was shot in one take.

Gregg sometimes will get popcorn stuck in his throat while filming.

Vera mentioned wanting an On Cinema video game.

All of them talked about looking for more ways to make the whole On Cinema experience even more interactive with the fans than it is.

Tim filmed Popcorn Shuffle, and Tim edits most of Gregg's segments, because he likes editing as a hobby.

I think S7 is the high watermark but 10-12 have all been great. maybe even better actually but S7 is where you really got a sense of how far out and crazy this show could get

season 7 does have the birth of dekkar (thereby forever tipping the scales in how much the show is "about" movies), the dr. san forgiveness special, and the untimely death of actor/model tom cruise heidecker jr., it's up there

also starts off with tim's ant-man pan

the our cinema special is the most magnificently unwatchable two hours of the entire show, i'm lmao whenever part of the set inevitably falls over

S7 also has some of the best intro segments. in some ways that was my favorite running joke and I'm bummed the latest season doesn't have them. they just kept getting better and better.

seasons 7 & 8 are definitely where it turned from "this is really good" to "this one of my favorite things ever."

im sure i posted about it at the time, but the s11 "on defense" segments where tim was waving around guns and dry-firing them at himself and into the camera were some of the most unforgettably disturbing moments of the whole series for me. bc by that point the shows logic had been established where it was definitely not out of the realm of possibility that tims character would accidentally shoot himself in the head point blank on camera.

yeah it almost resembles a drama like Breaking Bad or the Sopranos more than a comedy show, there are very real stakes and it's constantly introducing new characters. that's what made the ending to the latest Oscar Special work so well, you legitimately didn't know if LaRue was gonna survive or if there would be major consequences for Gregg.
