bridge is kinda whack - the whole thing, tram wires and all, rises up to let boats through. odd little jigsaw piece tag on the opposite side.

koogs, Saturday, 30 April 2022 10:38 (two years ago) link

I'm guessing it's linked to that Comics Crepes shop on the corner, since there's a comic image on it

nice one! any clues in the picture or did you know it?

StanM, Sunday, 1 May 2022 06:18 (two years ago) link

it looked like a long bridge in south america, so i found a list of longest bridges in south america. this was #4. the vehicle barrier design and median paint are quite distinctive.

micah, Sunday, 1 May 2022 07:46 (two years ago) link

great! thanks for explaining :)

Good work Or Something, I was just coming to post a second view, not realising it had been found

Safely say that's somewhere in this paradise we call the UK

ignore the blue line (or something), Wednesday, 18 May 2022 14:15 (two years ago) link

Yeah, feels incredibly familiar yet also I have probably never been there.

kinder, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 14:41 (two years ago) link

my brain is having a hard time comprehending how the door on the left connects with the brickwork.

Ste, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 14:51 (two years ago) link

The building on the left clearly needs that alarm system, doesn't it.
+ what a mysterious row of windows to the right - with the red panels. Not garage doors... - also that very high light pole straight ahead, there must be a big area there I suppose?

StanM, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 14:59 (two years ago) link

the gray bit of building sticking out on the right is pretty distinctive too, imho

StanM, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 15:00 (two years ago) link

I'm guessing the red brick building is a car park. Looks like there are about ten thousand modern red brick car parks in the uk. The building reflected in the window with the vertical fluting is also pretty standard issue.

I think there’s a playground at the far end of the park. Not that it narrows down the location too much.

that's not my post, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 15:26 (two years ago) link

ftom what I gather, the double yellow kerbside is also used in Ireland (I’m ruling out former BE places like Malta, S’pore and Malaysia here)

that's not a Scottish flag above the door, right?

StanM, Wednesday, 18 May 2022 17:49 (two years ago) link

university campus ahead? train station? hospital? - no idea where to start clicking on a map, for now

StanM, Thursday, 19 May 2022 23:01 (two years ago) link

not sure if that is a saltire above the door but that building does feel Scottish. pic reminds me of some places in Glasgow

ignore the blue line (or something), Friday, 20 May 2022 13:22 (two years ago) link

Definitely reminds me of Glasgow too, but I don't recognise it at all.

In the first shot too, though it was difficult to get a view with it in from that angle

Lots of Soviet-style housing blocks. One building I can see that might conceivable be a church, otherwise no churches. Main road in pretty poor condition. Cars look like they're driving on the right. Huge gash in the landscape on the left, looks like it might be an old open-cut mine or something. Couple of power plant type buildings. I'm guessing one of the poorer ex-Soviet countries.

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 06:32 (two years ago) link

intriguing indeed - I was convinced it could be Asbest but I can't make it work I think

StanM, Tuesday, 31 May 2022 14:08 (two years ago) link

googling "world's longest mine" brings up nothing apart from the deepest

StanM, Monday, 6 June 2022 10:26 (two years ago) link

A cuckoo clock to complete the Swiss theme, but that first photo sure as hell ain't Switzerland. I'm still guessing Eastern Europe

Zelda Zonk, Monday, 6 June 2022 10:37 (two years ago) link

googling "swiss themed bar" "swiss themed chalet" "swiss themed restaurant" + Russia , not being very lucky

StanM, Monday, 6 June 2022 10:44 (two years ago) link

The more I stare at that second photo, the more it looks like some kind of Lynchian hell. What's with the light switch that has no switch? The creepy pictures on the wall, of birds and cows? Why the shelf of rolled towels, in what looks like a bar/restaurant? The cowbells, the sad pot plant, the surveillance camera on the wonky ceiling?
