21, I figured out it was a city after 6 but like Mike was convinced it was somewhere closer to Africa or the Middle East. Wasted guesses on north, south, east and west trying to locate it in the mediterranean. I was almost led astray by the hits for football, after I guessed united and saw what looked like (and was) Manchester United.

#71 214 / 59.81%

No such thing as a wasted guess when you're a sightseer with a guess count as high as mine (typos notwithstanding).

#71 31 / 80.95%

Well done, koogs!

Got French after 6 so probably should have nailed it sooner.

Alba, Thursday, 16 June 2022 21:29 (three years ago)

I was put off it being a city by it not having city in the first paragraph. Must learn to open my mind a bit on formats of these things. Prefecture my arse, indeed.

Alba, Thursday, 16 June 2022 21:31 (three years ago)

having great fun *not* trying to solve this one. I mean, the answer became clear soon enough although I was stuck on Toulouse for a little while, but I decided not to enter it and try filling out as much of the text as I possibly could. 1317 guesses so far, and I’m still finding new things. will I get everything? no, I have other things to do (like a job lol), and I obviously wouldn’t know everything anyway. the funnest part was trying to identify the two sets of twin cities at the end. enough clues to make it doable. got ‘em all in the end, apart from the city in Togo (its capital probably), which starts with an L and probably has four letters, but my brain isn’t giving me any Togo cities at all. but it was a fun little game within a game.

butt-mooning is a polysemous word, hoss! (breastcrawl), Friday, 17 June 2022 11:33 (three years ago)

Hah! If that's not exploration I don't know what is!

Antifa Lockhart (Leee), Friday, 17 June 2022 15:46 (three years ago)

i got it in 5, but if i had guts i coulda made it 1 or 2 - i saw the xxxxx-xx-xxxxxxx construction and thought "that middle part could be 'du'" -- like a french name -- so i guessed du, then quebec, then france, then city to confirm it was in fact a city in france. then my first guess was the answer

Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Friday, 17 June 2022 15:54 (three years ago)

#71 was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marseille (in one, bitches!)

Redactle #71 in 18 guesses, 27.78% accuracy. Let there be light guesses

Alba, Friday, 17 June 2022 18:36 (three years ago)

Sorry, Redactle #72, I mean

Alba, Friday, 17 June 2022 18:36 (three years ago)

114! took me 110 to guess light and that was a stab in the um dark.

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Friday, 17 June 2022 19:29 (three years ago)

took 41 but i should have gotten there way sooner. i had reflective on 13! (because i tried anti early and thought it might fit one of the "anti"s) - had light by 25, tried rainbow with my second last guess knowing it'd be there. just typing faster than i was deducing!

Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Friday, 17 June 2022 20:13 (three years ago)

too easy today

TWELVE Michelob stars?!? (seandalai), Saturday, 18 June 2022 16:08 (three years ago)

i missed yesterday's. optical fibres, total internal reflection, refractive index etc, but it couldn't, and still can't, think of a 5 letter word that would be a wikipedia article about all this stuff without something following it in brackets. tried fibre, both spellings.

"Ben and Jerry" or "Tom and Jerry"?

koogs, Saturday, 18 June 2022 17:01 (three years ago)

#72 was prism. Currently stuck with ren and stimpy in my head for #73 (it don't fit).

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Saturday, 18 June 2022 17:41 (three years ago)

4, 75% - I didn't count letters and thought it might be Oryx & Crake

papal hotwife (milo z), Saturday, 18 June 2022 17:49 (three years ago)

i don't like the way yesterday's redactle just disappears like that.

am also pretty sure i tried that word, but there's no way of proving it.

koogs, Saturday, 18 June 2022 17:51 (three years ago)

3 - ren and stimpy got me stuck thinking it was two names, nothing else came to mind (apart from cagney and lacey, dalziel and pascoe, starsky and hutch...) so I guessed 'novel', then after a short while the penny dropped .

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Saturday, 18 June 2022 18:22 (three years ago)

got it straight off (2) might as well brag for once

TWELVE Michelob stars?!? (seandalai), Saturday, 18 June 2022 18:29 (three years ago)

agree with seandalai. had this one at first sight.

3. first guess was tom (ie tom and jerry)

donna rouge, Saturday, 18 June 2022 18:45 (three years ago)

from the stuff in between brackets right after the title it was clear that it wasn’t going to be an English-language thing

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Saturday, 18 June 2022 19:09 (three years ago)

got it in 6, my best showing yet

Clay, Saturday, 18 June 2022 19:36 (three years ago)

Xxp lol thought the same thing, got it in 18

Dan Worsley, Saturday, 18 June 2022 19:38 (three years ago)

Wanted to show my gf how the game works today but we both got it in 2 almost immediately so it was a bad example

Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Saturday, 18 June 2022 20:14 (three years ago)

hahahah here I was coming to brag that I got this one in 11 guesses ... y'all are so great at this. I had to spend a few guesses determining it wasn't German or French -- Being and Time or one of the many "thing and thing" titles by Foucault

sarahell, Saturday, 18 June 2022 20:22 (three years ago)

Tbf I wouldn't even say I did a good job I just saw 3 and 5 and the first thing that came to me was war and peace. If it was literally anything else I would have been stumped

Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Saturday, 18 June 2022 21:47 (three years ago)

sarahell: Being and Time is Heidegger, no?

Antifa Lockhart (Leee), Saturday, 18 June 2022 21:52 (three years ago)

my first guess was tom and jerry

von kelson, Saturday, 18 June 2022 23:06 (three years ago)

highlight an entire paragraph of a redactle work in progress (this was in Linux Firefox) and it looks like the cover of autechre's quaristice

koogs, Sunday, 19 June 2022 01:07 (three years ago)

xp Leee written in German, yeah?

sarahell, Sunday, 19 June 2022 01:53 (three years ago)

Got it in 7 which is by far my best result so far.

Hans Holbein (Chinchilla Volapük), Sunday, 19 June 2022 06:46 (three years ago)

Boy what a terrible song. Haven't heard it or thought about it in ages but it did pop into my consciousness when I counted the letters in this redactle.

Hans Holbein (Chinchilla Volapük), Sunday, 19 June 2022 06:52 (three years ago)

Redactle #73 in 5, 80% accuracy. Totally useless first three guesses then it came to me.

Alba, Sunday, 19 June 2022 13:57 (three years ago)

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Sunday, 19 June 2022 17:19 (three years ago)

1! It was the only interdisciplinary branch of computer science and engineering I could think of and there were an awful lot of five-letter words kicking off sections further down.

I've never managed to ace it three days in a row, so tomorrow will be a slog, I'm sure.

messed around for a while there then went for the three letter acronym guessed e thinking bce which was wrong but did give me ????-e. couldn't be wall-e, right? it was. and the tla turned out to be r.u.r...

koogs, Sunday, 19 June 2022 17:49 (three years ago)

mike, it was the only interdisciplinary branch of computer science and engineering I could think of  - how on earth did you figure out those words though?!

11 for me, also via wall-e via e, after being at a loss when film, novel, book and song all were duds. l almost tried play, don't know if I'd have got r.u.r. if I had.

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Sunday, 19 June 2022 19:47 (three years ago)

Ledge, some days I can see those patterns and some days I can’t see anything in the opening paragraph. I think we’ve had that particular 17-letter adjective before?

Michael Jones, Sunday, 19 June 2022 20:02 (three years ago)

the top paragraph did look very black today, and long black words at that.

koogs, Sunday, 19 June 2022 20:17 (three years ago)

the mysterious pink text at the bottom remains a mystery.
