I got it last week from an airport probably. My experience with omicron was really similar to a lot of my friends: bad flu-like symptoms for 3-4 days and then almost fully better after that. My least favorite symptom was being completely covered in sweat at random points in the day.

oh yeah also most people I know who got it recently only test positive 2 days into feeling sick

My brother beat his but his voice is weak and he's still tired.

That's what happened to me: started feeling ropey on Sunday but didn't test positive till Tuesday. Felt absolutely dreadful by Thursday, but getting better now.
― Nasty, Brutish & Short, Saturday, 25 June 2022 14:13 (two years ago) link
Mine was: caught Thursday from colleague at work; felt ropey Sunday; tested positive Monday.
I had tight chest, clogged sinuses and tiredness, but not much else - symptoms improved within 2-3 week.
My breeathing's till a bit tight three months later, but I think that's probably not covid, just me being more self-aware of my seasonal allergies.
― Chuck_Tatum, Saturday, 25 June 2022 14:44 (two years ago) link
To add to the anecdata: I had a slightly scratchy throat on Friday, tested TWICE that day because I was going to a thing after work - negative both times; woke up yesterday morning feeling like shit and took another test, negative again; had a long grim trek home and by the time I was finally back I was like nope I’m testing again, my teeth are hot and my blood hurts, it prob could be something else but cmon. This time the test line appeared instantly.
― Wiggum Dorma (wins), Sunday, 26 June 2022 15:59 (two years ago) link
Yeah it was actually shocking to me how quickly and definitively the test line showed up
Turns out my wife found the negative test I took the day noticed a barely visible test line but I don't know how valid the results are after sitting out on the counter all day.
― joygoat, Sunday, 26 June 2022 16:43 (two years ago) link
On the seventh day of Covid, when feeling basically better, I thought I had a negative LFT after 10 minutes of no apparent line but after a turn around the block to empty the dog, I came back to find a T line.

Dad tested negative on a PCR yesterday, and he's been symptom-free for days; Mom tested positive on her PCR, though. Day 10 for her. She was also on molnupiravir five days. Should I visit? Testers said the combo of drug + 10 days means she's likely not infectious.

She's taking a home test or rapid antigen test tomorrow.
― Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 1 July 2022 14:56 (two years ago) link
PCR test on day 10 could just be dead virus. but i'd wait for negative on antigen test, which is better at detecting when virus has left.
― Doop Snogg (Neanderthal), Friday, 1 July 2022 15:14 (two years ago) link
The metric we went by for me to un-isolate from the rest of the family was negative rapid tests two days in a row, which happened to me yesterday.

I'd avoided it thus far, but OF COURSE I finally got it the day before the weekend of my biggest show of the year, plus seeing out-of-town friends and other anticipated activities. Lame, but oh well, there are bigger problems in the world I know.
― change display name (Jordan), Friday, 15 July 2022 16:01 (two years ago) link
Hope it passes quickly, Jordan, but that sucks.
I know literally six people in Chicago who have tested positive (and for the first time) in the past 48 hours.
― deep luminous trombone (Eazy), Friday, 15 July 2022 16:04 (two years ago) link
I have a good friend that just tested positive here for the first time, too, but he caught it overseas and brought it back here. He's double boosted, fwiw, which may explain why his symptoms have been so mild.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 15 July 2022 16:30 (two years ago) link
I'm on day 3 of my second round of Covid which seems mercifully mild. This was 4 months after my first - I was at 3-day dance music festival last weekend so it wasn't too much of a shock.
― Chewshabadoo, Friday, 15 July 2022 17:32 (two years ago) link
interesting (and unlucky), I haven't heard of any reinfection issues so quickly after the first round
― Bongo Jongus, Friday, 15 July 2022 17:57 (two years ago) link
The lines on the lateral flow test are much lighter this time around, which seems to correlate with my feelings of it being a milder version.

I haven't heard of any reinfection issues so quickly after the first roundTwenty days is the shortest period between reinfections (with different variants) that I’ve seen.

and, the nightmare scenario that I feared is upon us. all of us have visited dad at the assisted living facility, which dad is only going to be at a short while. today, mom and I agreed "hmm, maybe we'll bring him back after just a week", and were feeling ok about things.
mom leaves the facility and I go to visit dad and there's a note on the door about droplet precautions. I go to the desk to ask what it means (knowing full well what it means), and sure enough, they tell me dad's roommate has it. they wouldn't move dad because they said he was 'already exposed' and of course moving him in with someone else means he might expose that person.
dad doesn't have it yet, but unless he has amazing t-cells, probably an inevitability. Now I'm exposed, and my mother's exposed, and my brother, though he just had it (though no idea if it was BA.5 or BA.2.21). so I didn't get to visit dad because I only visited the once and miiiight just luck out again, and can't chance it. both mom and I had N95s/KN95s on. but now we get to worry about ourselves.
dad is double boosted (four shots), not sure if he can do Paxlovid with what he's currently taking, but hoping he manages ok if he gets it. thank god he's quad-vaxxed.
I am livid though and about to raise Hell because nobody called us to tell us, they don't seem to give a shit about the risk, and they were complete shitheads to my mom and I. I'm filing complaints with the AHCA right now as we speak for how they handled this.
had I not driven down there tonight, Mom and I could have risked exposing many other people (if we have it).

we probably can - within first 5 days of infection is when it needs to be administered.
they didn't follow many CDC guidelines, and I pointed this out in my complaint. which is the first of many to come.

So after managing to avoid this fuckin thing for 2 whole years mostly thanks to being a complete shut in, my partner's come down with it. I think. The RAT test came up 2 stripes like IMMEDIATELY. but his symptoms don't jibe: he's achy/headachy/snotty but no fever?
And now I'm like... how long til I come down with it too? Ive been sharing a house/bed since his likely exposure (idjit went out to multiple bars drinking on Sat night, despite the huge covid wave our city's having).

fever doesn’t always appear w omicron and subsequent variants iirc. big difference with the earlier strains.
― Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 26 July 2022 06:59 (two years ago) link
With my second Covid infection (finally negative on day 9 last Thursday) which I’m assuming was the latest Omicron strain - my main symptoms were feeling exhausted and some stomach pains - no head cold this time though.
― Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 26 July 2022 08:59 (two years ago) link
Interesting. My symptoms so far are like a cold with three days of fever.
― Lily Dale, Tuesday, 26 July 2022 10:45 (two years ago) link
Three days so far, that is - I think the fever might be over but I've thought that before.
And now I'm like... how long til I come down with it too? Ive been sharing a house/bed since his likely exposure
This past week was the first time any couple I knew both tested positive at the same time, at least post-vaccines. It's always been one person getting sick but not the other, which is strange. And of this couple (double boosted), one tested positive on a rapid, the other didn't but did test positive on a follow-up PCR (taken after more symptoms appeared). I think the current strains are doing a much better job evading detection, and also seem to be conferring (at least among the vaxxed) even more mild symptoms. No fever, slightly scratchy throat, maybe mild sniffles. Though one of the two people I was just talking about did develop a cough, was very tired and said that it felt like an elephant was sitting on her chest.
I heard the radio doctor on local NPR yesterday morning for the first time concede that everyone is probably going to get it, likely multiple times over the course of multiple years, as is the case with lots of respiratory illnesses.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 26 July 2022 12:53 (two years ago) link
My partner tested positive three days after I did, although she was having symptoms the day before.
For me it was basically head cold, with a light buffet of other symptoms (slight fever one day, a little fatigue another afternoon, some night sweats sprinkled in).
― change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 26 July 2022 14:21 (two years ago) link
there is a theory from some, like Dr Michael Mina (though it's not established fact) that with Omicron, peak infectiousness is 3-6 days, rather than the past, where peak infectiousness is like 1-2 days before symptoms through like 3 days after. which would make sense because if you establish you're infected early and you modify your behavior, you could avoid passing to your partner, whereas pre-Omicron, by the time you realize you have it, you might have already infected them.
I've been exposed (both masked and mask-free) about three times now to someone who tested positive a day later and never gotten it. and in one of the cases, nobody at the gathering tested positive, even the guy who hugged the friend who tested positive a day later.
I wonder if that's the reason some couples don't pass along - they find out early, and isolate/etc.
― We were clothed, except for Caan, who was naked. Don't know why. (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 26 July 2022 14:43 (two years ago) link
I feel like I wont know either way, as I've been suffering from fatigue/headache/sniffles for like 6 months now anyway for some reason. Either I got covid real early on and never knew (was sick with a fevery chest thing in Feb 2020 but nothing since), or I'm allergic to my house.
Partner got fever later yesterday anyways. I'm sleeping (badly) on the couch. Still feel okish today so far. Who knows.
― Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 26 July 2022 21:01 (two years ago) link
I definitely know I'm sick.
Of course, with the c diff factor it's hard to tell what's covid, what's the c diff, what's the vancomycin that I'm taking for the c diff, and what's the cumulative effects of a week and a half of hunger and dehydration.

Day 3 and I'm still fine so far. But B just got worse and worse and has had to go to hospital :( I'm sure he will be ok with some antivirals, saline IV and a bit of care, its just them being cautious as he has a history of heart issues.
Blergh so stressed out. I'm alone and if I get sick no one can look after me, which is my bloody lot in life.

I was told no, not if he's on the covid ward. Problem we have here is Melbourne is overrun with covid, it is mental, and right now he says hes wating in a bed in a fucking triage tent, waiting for a bed in the hospital :|
So yeah Im a bit stressed out, but he sent me a text saying he learned "doffing" is a word in the context of removing PPE, which was amusing, so he seems to be ok!
