or maybe just fog

I poked around Juneau for a bit the other day, it did look right for a few reasons but I couldn't find the spot

rob, Thursday, 28 July 2022 17:30 (two years ago) link

The bumpy little hills on the other side of the bay/sound are pretty distinctive

alaska has yellow license plates which we see in pic 2 but not on the sedan or the truck in pic 1, what are the chances. seems like the least likely state to have 2 out of state vehicles in one place (from 2 different states)

ciderpress, Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:02 (two years ago) link

i guess if the sedan is a BC plate then that improves the odds a little

ciderpress, Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:04 (two years ago) link

wait there's a pic 2?

nice work!

rob, Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:10 (two years ago) link

Great work, Ciderpress. I didn’t really wander far from picture 1. If for some reason it was going to carry on longer there are many street view pics with a massive cruise liner in the port.

horizontal, Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:12 (two years ago) link

good one!

StanM, Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:19 (two years ago) link

bravo! how did you get to it?

Christmas in Davenport (cherry blossom), Thursday, 28 July 2022 18:35 (two years ago) link

i followed my previous train of thought of 'white plates in alaska -> might be BC plates -> alaska near BC' and then was lucky enough to drop the streetview guy right on the same block as pic #2 when i checked that town

ciderpress, Thursday, 28 July 2022 19:04 (two years ago) link

props to the people who identified it as alaska though, i was looking in oregon before that

ciderpress, Thursday, 28 July 2022 19:05 (two years ago) link

damn, all those posts on blue white yellow plates earlier and somehow missed that one

Britain, but which part?

StanM, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 07:15 (two years ago) link

is there a (maybe even non-horizontal) football pitch behind that building?

StanM, Tuesday, 2 August 2022 08:10 (two years ago) link

could be Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire, up to the Scottish Borders. Be tough to narrow down

ignore the blue line (or something), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 09:42 (two years ago) link

Is it a city or is it a town?

ignore the blue line (or something), Tuesday, 2 August 2022 12:02 (two years ago) link

haven't got a clue. There are a lot of very nice landscapes in Britain though. Well done. :)

StanM, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 18:07 (two years ago) link

yeah that could be anywhere north of derbyshire.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Wednesday, 3 August 2022 18:10 (two years ago) link

looks like some sort of abandoned facility behind there whatever it is, or else seasonal (fairgrounds?)

ciderpress, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 18:53 (two years ago) link

certainly has a football ground type vibe to it

Ste, Wednesday, 3 August 2022 21:29 (two years ago) link

yeah I've been looking for football pitches on the outskirts of the likes of Rochdale, Oldham, Buxton, Blackburn and Burnley but nothing as yet

ignore the blue line (or something), Wednesday, 3 August 2022 21:52 (two years ago) link

I wonder if the wooden repairs to the (canteen?) mean that there was a fire there (somewhere before 2019 as that is the Google copyright date) & this window+roof are new but then the budget was gone? (Or that I just have an over-active imagination)

StanM, Thursday, 4 August 2022 00:04 (two years ago) link

Not much to go on, other than it looks like the north of England. And even that doesn't seem certain, I mean it could be Ireland or Scotland.

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 4 August 2022 00:12 (two years ago) link

Also looks very Welsh valleys

nate woolls, Thursday, 4 August 2022 00:55 (two years ago) link

If it wasn't for the car parked the wrong way, it could even be Brittany!

Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 4 August 2022 01:13 (two years ago) link

That's definitely Wales I reckon

... what is that green box/object ? A fancy garbage bin, so close to another one just outside the park?

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 14:11 (two years ago) link

I'm curious about that strange gate in the fence. Is that perhaps a gate to a dog run, designed to keep dogs from running out while the gate is open? I've never seen that design before. That might explain the small garbage bin on the fence (for dog waste) vs the larger bin outside.

o. nate, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:12 (two years ago) link

The name comes from the gate merely "kissing" (touching) the inside of the enclosure.

What nonsense. As I tell all my friends whenever we come across such a gate, it comes from the fact that you have to give the person in front a kiss before they allow you to pass through.

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Monday, 8 August 2022 15:24 (two years ago) link

what kind of track is that? BMX would be partly dirt, right?

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:27 (two years ago) link

Not necessarily, see e.g. the last Olympics! I've been searching for (grim) pump track (wales).

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Monday, 8 August 2022 15:28 (two years ago) link

oh right, pump track is a variety too - thx

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:29 (two years ago) link

thanks for the dn

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Monday, 8 August 2022 15:32 (two years ago) link

I feel like that fancy rectangular garbage thing (if it is one) is pretty distinctive maybe, no?

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:34 (two years ago) link

do the wind turbines mean "near a coast" ?

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:35 (two years ago) link

Not necessarily, they're all over the country here. Maybe the bin has some distinguishing features up close but it wouldn't look out of place to me anywhere in the UK.

dear confusion the catastrophe waitress (ledge), Monday, 8 August 2022 15:37 (two years ago) link

okay, I hoped my questions would help but they don't :-)

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:39 (two years ago) link

I don't know, it feels very flat for Wales - unless I've happened to only have clicked on more hilly parts

StanM, Monday, 8 August 2022 15:43 (two years ago) link

I've definitely seen those bins in Wales. This looks like it could be somewhere like Caerphilly.

nate woolls, Monday, 8 August 2022 21:07 (two years ago) link

i agree this might be wales, but i've seen those bins all over. very generic uk bin imo.
