but people are saying shitty things to trans people and that does hurt. i don't even necessarily mean cis people saying shitty things to trans people, the worst of it is that trans people _do_ say shitty things to other trans people when Discourse starts

it doesn't bring out the best in us. i'm lucky in that i have a really good, supportive local community. i'm not coming into this unprepared. other people, though? they're at serious risk of getting hurt, and, well, if i didn't want that to happen my only option was to not say anything in the first place.

god help us all if this shit goes _actually_ viral, rather than being contained to the relatively quiet, kind, and placid waters of ilx.
