Lovely how a little joke about a disagreement becomes nasty, fuck you dickhead

poppin' debussy (the table is the table), Tuesday, 1 November 2022 12:37 (three years ago)

How is calling you a middlebrow pet nasty?

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 1 November 2022 13:06 (three years ago)

Poet.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 1 November 2022 13:06 (three years ago)

That's got me wondering what a middlebrow pet would be tbh.

that's quite apt coming from someone whose only contribution to ilx is c&ping other people's tweets

imago, Tuesday, 1 November 2022 13:17 (three years ago)

I can c&p posts from here too. Like this one:

That's why I am not going to post to ILE any more; I'm going to be the one who changes. But if you fucking dare approach me on ILM I'm going to say some things which make today's freakouts seem like a warm and friendly greeting. Adios.

xyzzz, fwiw i read yr post as insulting because middlebrow is actually an insult, in most contexts. tho we disagree sometimes i really value many of your posts , even if you dislike me and my posts. we can’t all be friends, that’s fine!

poppin' debussy (the table is the table), Tuesday, 1 November 2022 15:32 (three years ago)

Hi table, I was just teasing you. I found it a tad annoying you were like "eat my ass" in the passive aggressive thread.

Fwiw, I like some of your posts too, your enthusiasm for Prynne and passion for poetry.

Nice to see LJ back on ILE.

lj is merely the 103rd ilxor to renounce posting forever only to start up again within weeks or months. i think morbs held the record for the most with treesh lagging not far behind.

There’s no mystic moment involved just
that we are
is how, each
severally, we’re
carried into
the wind which makes no decision and is
a tide, not taken. I saw it
and love is
when, how &
because we
do: you
could call it Ierusalem or feel it
as you walk, even quite jauntily, over the grass.

not really the thread for it, but i don't really use midbrow as an insult, more as a sociological (or bourdieuvian) descriptor for taste or for critical strategies and habits

my comment on mckuen was literal observed fact: here's a poet i've never read or heard a line by (and have no investment in in any direction) who since the 70s i've only ever encountered by name being denounced by midbrow commentators as (for this reason or that) by no means it

this is the kind of thing i find funny (time for bourdieu to write abt me eh)

mark s, Tuesday, 1 November 2022 16:32 (three years ago)

aw i like rod mckuen, i've only heard a record or two, he's cozy imo, nothing wrong with that also imo.

reminds me of my journey from being disgusted by the comic strip cathy to ironically liking it to just plain liking it but i mean in small doses.

This morning my ADHD ear worms have decided it’s perfectly normal to loop the old Club Biscuit advert song combined with SFA ‘Rings Around The World’

“If you like
a lot of chocolate on your
RINGS AROUND THE WORLD”

It has been hours, send help

You want this thread
Earworm mashups: the thread for having multiple songs stuck in your head

If we're doing old adverts, Leonard Cohen 'Aint no cure for love' always ends up as the Brooke Bond 'I could do with a D' ad song for me...

I knew there was a suitable thread but search failed me, thx

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Thursday, 3 November 2022 23:53 (three years ago)

I certainly won't post this in gyac's popular baseball thread--and nothing to do with the excellent post that led me here--but I'm again amused by the disconnect whereby nostalgia for 1982 and no interest in the game today = "are you . . . me?", while nostalgia for 1977 and skepticism about aspects of the game today = jaded.

clemenza, Tuesday, 8 November 2022 23:08 (three years ago)

I don’t think that’s what that post meant. I talk to Mookieproof about modern baseball all the time, he does not like everything/everyone I like and vice versa, same goes for you. I guess cos I’m both new to the game and not American I know that I get really impatient with some of the long standing aspects of the game, and some stuff is genuinely archaic, that is very much not the case for Mookieproof though.

after several days on “the milk,” (gyac), Tuesday, 8 November 2022 23:14 (three years ago)

Oh, I know mookie sometimes criticizes the game today; he just seems to think that me not getting excited about a four-pitcher no-hitter crosses some imaginary line into jadedness (while dismissively brushing aside my nostalgia for Reggie's three HR).

clemenza, Tuesday, 8 November 2022 23:17 (three years ago)

There seems to be three sets of rules there: one for mookie, one for '82 Cardinals fans (again, this is not a knock at all on ymp), and one for me.

clemenza, Tuesday, 8 November 2022 23:18 (three years ago)

the 1982 cardinals were so fun that there really is a different set of rules. they had rookie willie mcgee - it broke baseball

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 8 November 2022 23:31 (three years ago)

Combined no hitters are less exciting than a tight CG SHO IMO.
