maf you one two (maffew12), Wednesday, 30 November 2022 16:55 (two years ago)

Vodka is potatoes and cereal grain. Gin is from the blood of Odin.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 November 2022 16:59 (two years ago)

And whisky streams directly from the loins of Fenris

Wait, let me rephrase that

عباس کیارستمی (Eric H.), Wednesday, 30 November 2022 17:05 (two years ago)

No, don't.

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 November 2022 17:09 (two years ago)

all alcohol for me at this moment in time. I have been teetotal for nearly 3 weeks now and have become tediously health conscious for the first time in decades!

calzino, Wednesday, 30 November 2022 17:15 (two years ago)

Good for you!

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 30 November 2022 17:17 (two years ago)

Xpost — I am also off the booze to right now, albeit for medical reasons, so good luck! I have found that non-alcoholic beers are much better than they used to be, when I need to scratch that itch

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 1 December 2022 12:13 (two years ago)

yeah I had a 0% lager beer with a curry I made the other day and it was more than decent and have never tried one before

calzino, Thursday, 1 December 2022 12:24 (two years ago)

no-alcohol beer I've tried has ranged from horrible to ok, the best substitute I've found is kvass, which you can find in most supermarkets in the Polish section.

link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 1 December 2022 12:51 (two years ago)

thing i no longer care about: vacations. cos every one I take from work gets ruined, every single damn one. we've had a dad ER visit just about every time I've been off (except one time this year).

(dad's ok this time, already home)

Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Thursday, 1 December 2022 13:10 (two years ago)

The Brew Dog and Beaverton ones are good. Although that might be because the alcoholic ones are nothing special, so the non-alcoholic ones don’t taste that different

Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 1 December 2022 13:12 (two years ago)

xp the whole apparatus of vacations from work inexorably makes both working and taking vacations worse

عباس کیارستمی (Eric H.), Thursday, 1 December 2022 14:35 (two years ago)

Free Damm has been my tipple, had never heard of it before but it's on a £3.50 for a 4-pack offer at Morrisons. I found myself savouring the taste rather than glugging it down like it's a race to get fresh!

calzino, Thursday, 1 December 2022 14:42 (two years ago)

You know, I thought ukpol thread was more boring recently.

Good on you, man!

AI-generated art

this doesn't even need to exist. AI will only create bad art when it's asked to, it will never take the initiative

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:33 (two years ago)

^^^ that looks like the textbook example of "not my thing." I never saw the first one. xp

Three Rings for the Elven Bishop (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:34 (two years ago)

not to get into a big argument here, but this is the point about AI art I understand the least. I've seen so many stunning and weird images come out of the AI world over the past year+. I think it's a mistake to look at it as a replacement for this or that other type of art, and just see it as it's own medium that generates it's own strange aesthetics.

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:37 (two years ago)

I think I've just gotten weary of the sheer amount of it - it's just everywhere on the internet now, and it's hard for me to stay interested at this point

jmm, Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:49 (two years ago)

AI only creates images, not art. An AI-generated image becomes art only through the agency of a human who selects it and 'sponsors' it as art.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:51 (two years ago)

and yeah, Avatar sequel otm

jmm, Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:53 (two years ago)

the vast majority of it is unoriginal, derivative, dull, or just plain bad, exactly like every other type of art ever

xposts

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Wednesday, 7 December 2022 18:54 (two years ago)

Add: if the human sponsor is a bad artist, they will only be capable of selecting and sponsoring 'bad AI art'. This was always true of bad artists. What AI adds to this process of making bad art is mind-boggling speed and ease, so thousands of images can be generated in a single workday. This sucks.
