Anyone noticing that the "match on root word" setting isn't quite working?

this is driving me bananas

Clay, Thursday, 20 July 2023 21:21 (eleven months ago) link

pun not intended

Clay, Thursday, 20 July 2023 21:24 (eleven months ago) link

I thought about tweeting at the creator that the smart matching is broken now, but they seem to have deleted their Twitter. It's like the Curse of Redactle or something.

there's a link to their new testing layout on the top of the redactle page the last few days. i went over to their reddit and in the new version "Smart word matching is working again"

pretty befuddling, this one. got the first word very quickly, but after that? I got hits for Moon, several planets, Africa, later Russia - so where was it situated? tried “Antarctica” at 123, and then checked for confirmation that it was indeed named after the Russian word for ^redacted^

Test site result doesn't show that I needed a hint.

Really annoyed that I was on the wrong continent for the longest time, but the hint put me in the right place, after which I got it in one more guess.

smart matching def not working like it used to in the standard version. had to use a separate “named” (4 hits) besides “name” (1 hit) today, for ex.

the loss of smart matching in the old version is terribly annoying, but the test version leaves many (most?) of the common function words covered, which means you have to think of entering things like “and” and “at”, which is a drag as well.

Albert Canoe (Leee), Saturday, 29 July 2023 20:32 (ten months ago) link

going by yesterday’s puzzle it only has “in”, “of”, “is”, “had” and “over”, far fewer than the regular version, which has the conjunctions and all prepositions.
(yesterday’s puzzle also had “we”, “de” and “die” for some reason, I assume they were glitches)

also, the first part of my username is “breast”, not “beast” - it’s a long story
