Similar experience to bc: "species" and "Homo" being in the first paragraph led me down an extremely unproductive rabbit hominid hole, and I was extremely confused by the number of hits for WWII, China/Chinese, Japan, AND the US, which I should've been enough to move me away from ancient humans.

the loss of smart matching in the old version is terribly annoying, but the test version leaves many (most?) of the common function words covered, which means you have to think of entering things like “and” and “at”, which is a drag as well.

going by yesterday’s puzzle it only has “in”, “of”, “is”, “had” and “over”, far fewer than the regular version, which has the conjunctions and all prepositions. (yesterday’s puzzle also had “we”, “de” and “die” for some reason, I assume they were glitches)also, the first part of my username is “breast”, not “beast” - it’s a long story

the uncovered alternative name looked like it was in Aramaic script (or thereabouts) and it appeared to be an (ancient) something. further down it said ‘IS’, for what might very well be (Islamic State), at which point I immediately thought of the site in question, which was in IS territory for some time. checked if the solution was indeed a 7-letter one, and it was.
