Bluesky an' clear: the social media app that will definitely last forever

I'm on there now as chants.bsky.social. Haven't found very many people to follow on there, idk.

the app still exists, so I assume the network does (I think I wound up deleting it, but I would occasionaly open it up as recently as a year ago and see just random images). Confusingly Ello is also now the name of a more high profile reading app that has nothing to do with old Ello.

I'm not even sure how my ilxmail works. Is that just the address I used to originally sign up/register? My login ID? How do I change that without re-registering?

No, that didn't do it. When I send an email (to myself) through that portal, by clicking on my screen name, it just sends to my original login ID, which is an old email address. But when I try to change that old login address to a new login address, my current email, it logs me out, because it no longer matches the one associated with the password. Hmm.

Haha, funny posts. To be fair to them though, it costs a lot of money and takes a lot of infrastructure for a site like Twitter/Bluesky to run – as it is whenever there is a flood of new people the site starts to stop loading posts etc.

Yeah, it is notably sluggish at the best of times.

Lotta placeholder accounts there right now with virtually no activity (including Tracer's, lol). I often can't tell if they are squatters trying to steal/scam the handle or legit mirrors of their twitter accounts.

There's probably a bunch of possibilities, but most likely is that someone from those accounts is just friending other people's follower list. It's a little less mysterious when you follow an account that posts about something specific, like if you follow a Nat'l Park account and suddenly you have five new follower accounts that are into parks, travel, etc.

Did you post yet? There are a bunch of feeds of peoples first posts that real users glance at. If you didn’t post it’s probably just bots. The network is small enough that there are still accounts that follow spam every newly created account.

I think there’s a very small subset of people who can pull off casual socially-inclusive language and of course one of the long-form definition pages is from what appears to be a consultancy group?

the kind of word use that makes sense within defined spaces but when it breaks containment it’s either in corporate training explaining the terms, but not explaining why hr should not use them in your fortune 500 company’s internal newsletter. or the local hippie coffee shop that keeps posting “folx” as a greeting on facebook while doing obvious wage theft

feel like podcaster michael hobbes has mentioned on one of his pod gigs how he used to do hr consulting type stuff and how badly constructed a lot of that shit is
