I've been here for longer than most of you, and I'm mostly known for being broke all of the time.

I've been here since the 1st month of ilx and im only known for polls even though I've hardly done any in years but its hardly an annoyance. I'd be fine with anonymity too tbh. Hence the DN changes now and again.

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm sometimes amused that I've been posting here for over 15 years and still remain such a non-entity. Much like high school, this place can feel very cliquish and if you aren't in one of the right cliques, you kind of don't exist.

tl;dr; if you want me to kill a thread dead, let me know and I'll post and you can watch it sink!

I've posted this exact sentiment in the past, right down to offering a similar threat at the end.

Lately I guess I've not been as hungry for connections and engagement here though, so it's not been as much of bother.

I imagine that many of us have had this feeling from time to time.

I've definitely felt like ILX's version of The Cooler.

most days I find myself insufferable so seeing no posts after mine comes across more like "thank god nobody called me an asshole"

i was just struck lately by watchin some interesting threads I chimed in on sink to the bottom. i like to think i'm not THAT boring, but maybe i am or just lots of folks have me killfiled.

thanks for the kind words, been a hard year and while i understand the idea of forums can feel sometimes like shouting into the void but things have been feeling extra void-y lately.

i kill threads dead all the time but never worry about it, knowing that one day Neanderthal will revive them in style when everyone least expects it.

it would be interesting to know what people think the cliques are, who is in them, and to what degree those posters feel the same. not that I'm suggesting we actually discuss that, that would be a terrible idea

"clique" was probably a bad word for it. as someone noted upthread there are several different groups that interact irl from time to time so they are naturally more in tune, those can sometimes feel to an outsider like an "in" group

ah ok, yeah I've never met any ilxors irl so I get that. I do feel (quite possibly one-sided) affinities with sets of posters, but those sets can shift over time

I have definitely felt like a thread-killer at times. (Then I'll say something that gets me labeled a sexist knuckle-walker and woo-hoo, off to the races we go!) But you are definitely one of the posters whose contributions annoy me the least.

think we've all imagined with killed the odd thread here and there, maybe sometimes a post is so great and to the point that it just doesn't need further elaboration

i've had the thing happen where i posted a fairly personal story on threads where people are sharing bad IRL stuff, only to watch others chime in to sympathize with the posters they probably know IRL and never referencing mine. it's okay, i have a lot of friends IRL. i do recognize the thing you describe when it occurs. i just assume bc i've only met one (ex?) ILXor for social purposes IRL (and another definitely ex-ILXor for a fleeting moment at a show) that people don't really associate me with anything other than this dumb username. god knows what they say about me on the slack!

haha that was from a window of time when i was heavily using alcohol so i try not to think about it but i'm glad i'm in some kind of HOF. sorta prefer my action film movie poll to be my legacy but we can't print our own legend.

I've only met 3 or 4 other ILXors IRL that I know of, all through the shabby fraternity of music writing — Ned, Scott Seward, Whiney, and maybe a couple of others that I'm forgetting or deliberately omitting. But I didn't go out much even pre-pandemic.
