ILX really is like a small town where everyone recognizes everyone else. The only usernames of regular posters that are unfamiliar to me are attached to ilxors who post exclusively to ILM.

As a relative unknown and frequent lurker and frequent poster, I like reading the posts of everyone that has posted from Jon onwards, I recognise every name here and think you are all very clever with plenty of interesting things to say. Everyone takes their turns killing threads, it’s part of nature, less so a personal indictment. All threads have use by dates!

Small towns are scary, it's true, but I take comfort in the fact that the few posters on here who have decided that I am an enemy, or a danger to their sense of well-being, or simply a less than human being and therefore an acceptable target when their irritation requires release, are easy to ignore. We aren't neighbors or relatives. They can't inflict any genuine or lasting misery upon me unless I permit them. No matter how they try, they can't lay a finger on me. It's the posters I respect or admire from whom I accept reproof and take to heart.

No one who's posted itt today is a non-entity? Entities as far as the eye can see afaict. Given the state of the internet/world at large, I'm regularly grateful for the number of smart + funny + cool + not criminally insane people this place has managed to retain.

I've definitely been burdened with the thread killah self-perception, felt like I was on the outside of the ILX 'cliques' looking in, etc. I guess I just don't concern myself with it as much anymore? At this point, I'm mostly cool with just hanging on the periphery and diggin the vibe (particularly since finally having a job I'm invested in means I no longer get paid to lavish ILXors with toilet-centric bon mots all day long, to the chagrin of everyone).
