I'm always fascinated by what people choose to put on their lists. It does take a certain amount of courage to put yourself out there, even (or maybe especially) in a small community like this one.

i think it's a good sign when people want to share, in general. small groups and communities are ideal places to share. i think it's a bad sign when people are worried about getting criticized or looked down upon by their peers for sharing. at the same time, it's very natural to worry about stuff like that, and on the flip side, when people worry about getting criticized it's often because they really respect the taste/opinions of others in the community and they want to live up to what they see as a standard

I'm not opposed to people polling, and not criticizing those who do it, I just find shooting the breeze about music more fun than polling, like the Guns n' Roses thread has been great the past week. (I know that poll threads spark discussion too, but I'm just very reluctant to open those for my own personal ideological reasons so I know I may miss good discussion and/or a good clusterfuck).

I'm currently dicing over whether to award Sextant (which I listened to 3 times in a row earlier) a 9 or a 10 out of 10. The latter would mean my 10/10s swell to an unpollable 77 albums. The holy ILX number. Maybe it needs to be done

honestly would really like that Zorn overview, there's so much out there and it's not always easy to access, which makes it hard to know what to chase down

what I find very useful are career overviews like the Wire's consumers' guides taht don;t rank, just take representative samplings and do good write ups on them.

We should revive those ILx0r artist overview compilations we used to make for each other. I did one for Dagmar Krause, must have been almost a decade ago now? Maybe not that long, hmm, can't remember.

there's some kind of 70th Zorn something idk happening here in a month or so ... thus there is "relevance" to this project ... not as exciting to me personally as "Hipster Puppies" but I'm not really into John Zorn, even though it's something that people would think I'd be into ... I don't totally hate him ... he put out a good record for Jewlia Eisenberg (RIP) and a few others that don't involve his own music, which I will give him props for

tbf they're already being polled. number of posters to engage on your thread other than yourself is the scoring system. a good title is essential but existing clout probably necessary. however you can win favour with Bold and Interesting Choices. the game's afoot!

furthermore, each album may be assigned between 2 and 50 points for ranked lists, or 25 for unranked or alphabetical lists, and combined into a rollout, or perhaps the top fifty will simply be presented once again on a summary button poll
