backslaps in motion

i THINK i started *I Love Vinyl*...it must have been me. kinda dead there now. but it's there.

scott seward, Monday, 4 September 2023 18:56 (one year ago) link

I stopped going to specific boards here a long time ago, always weird to hear references to ilm specifically or something... it’s all one place via “site new answers” for me. If I actually start a thread I’ll pay attention to where it belongs but that’s it.

But his face would not turn into hot Kirby (Evan), Monday, 4 September 2023 20:12 (one year ago) link

Right, it used to be a lot more important

Still some threads bear the stigma of their original borad. Talking to you, I Love Film!

iltrmb i miss ya ha.

long after erone is back in cars trains or like ebikes or personal drones, i’ll rep. maybe y’all do too, but it’s so dead there.

you need magical thinking ay my name is david blaine (Hunt3r), Monday, 4 September 2023 20:45 (one year ago) link

oh no

that is not at all what i meant re: skot

he is one of my absolutely favorite posters and i missed him over the last several years!

my bad for posting drunk (although that's not likely to stop me in the future)

anyway: i love you skot (and also i'm sorry that you & your wife are no longer running that radio station on the vinyard)

mookieproof, Tuesday, 5 September 2023 03:21 (one year ago) link

no problem. love you too. in the future i would like to be referred to as "once-prolific image-bomber" though.

and ironically i was JUST thinking last night about how drunk i used to be on ilx. i used to drink a lot. i can remember late at night covering one eye just so i could read ilx. i would search painstakingly for individual letters on the keyboard just to post something stupid. it could take hours!

i stopped getting drunk about 5 years ago though when i started my long painful non-smoking journey. and stopped drinking entirely last summer.

but i am all for drunk posting. drink and post away!

my non-smoking sorta coincided with me not being here. i wanted to die for about two years straight. it was ugly. but allswellthatendswell.

look man we dont refer to ted kaczynski as the once prolific unabomber and we have to be fair

#ilxhack: post a bad-faith polar distinction between two tweets that essentially express two parts of the same sentiment (distaste, followed by defiance) and, hours later, ILE will still be dancing to your little tune

imago, Wednesday, 13 September 2023 20:16 (one year ago) link

Haha I should have guessed who was responsible but I didn’t bother opening the thread

budo jeru, Wednesday, 13 September 2023 21:54 (one year ago) link

I can name several.

#2: Counting chords to pretend you can evaluate the complexity of a piece of music.

#3: coming up with stupid recipes and poisoning yourself online for attention.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 15 September 2023 22:19 (one year ago) link

y’all really aren’t doing this right, it has to be “my dick.” rarely on the original record do they use anything except the first person possessive, “Baker Dick”’s ‘diiiiiick’ being a notable exception

Is this the US form of Bosom Manor, where just adding the phrase 'my dick' to a phrase makes everyone roll around in hysterics? Idgi.

Pavement: Edible or Not

Kate (rushomancy), Monday, 18 September 2023 17:21 (one year ago) link

when you find an old thread perfect to discuss the thing you want to discuss, rather than having to start a new thread, and it begins with a fairly offensive first post, so nah.....

Make the chats AI (Neanderthal), Monday, 18 September 2023 17:36 (one year ago) link

This is a much different place than it was 20 years ago, that's for sure.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Monday, 18 September 2023 17:52 (one year ago) link

The whole internet is a different place than 20 years ago.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Monday, 18 September 2023 18:03 (one year ago) link

Sure, but this is a single site that has, apparently, maintained its essential infrastructure while almost completely replacing its cast of characters.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Monday, 18 September 2023 18:04 (one year ago) link

Board lawyers (boring arseholes) insist you start an old thread rather than a new one and posts links to old ones.

Only problem is that people then respond to the og post than the revive

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Monday, 18 September 2023 18:19 (one year ago) link

xp that’s good though. Places can calcify. Sometimes you read a thread from twenty or even ten years ago and it’s pretty awful reading, you know? People also are too beholden to stuff like not bumping old threads out of respect for discussions for twenty years ago; and honestly? Who cares.

ydkb (gyac), Monday, 18 September 2023 18:40 (one year ago) link

Some old threads are best left unopened imo

Toshirō Nofune (The Seventh ILXorai), Monday, 18 September 2023 18:47 (one year ago) link

you can usually guess who and what 00s ILM is going to be repulsive about and how so it would be nice to have new threads as a general rule in those cases unless someone is actually willing to go through and delete the worst offenders
