Don't know much about this organization but this seems like one way to counteract those who try to stir hate:

The pro-Palestine protesters made it clear that the masked neo-Nazis were not welcome, chanting “Nazis Go Home,” and “show your faces, you fucking cowards,” the Daily Montanan reported.

That is just one of the tactics that organizers of pro-Palestine solidarity protests can use to make clear to neo-Nazis that they are not welcome in that movement, according to Ben Lorber, an extremism expert who is working on a book about antisemitism. “It is vital for Palestine liberation organizers and progressive activists to recognize and counter far-right actors who stand diametrically opposed to the movement’s principles and goals,” Lorber wrote in a recent guide for organizers.

Personally, I find it much better to see an effort to recognize and counteract this kind of thing, rather than dismissing or denying that it exists

The dissonance in reading about individuals expressing concerns about anti-Semitic violence rising in North America while 400 Arab children are dying every day in Gaza is, frankly, enraging

I have seen videos of anti-Semitic violence over the past week. These videos are exclusively Jewish peace protesters getting harassed by cops in North America, Orthodox Jewish peace protesters getting beaten by Israeli Police in Israel

My heart is ripped in two for my Jewish friends who are saying “not in my name” and being disowned, being called “self-hating Jews”, or— as the Times Of Jerusalem said in an op-ed two days ago: “anti-Zionists who claim to be Jewish are as Jewish as the Westboro Baptist Church that claimed to be Christian”

Jfc just because you’re saying “stop bombing Gaza” doesn’t make you “anti-Zionist”, to begin with

I was bothered by a now ex-friend who told me “how can you call it Gazan genocide when they (the Gazans) procreate so quickly”; fine, first I will block you and never speak to you again, second I will call it something else. What, tho? Israel already doesn’t acknowledge a nakba exists. Anti-war Jews are liberally calling it a holocaust, a shoah; those terms are not allowed to me as a non-Jew.

I feel like one can’t even call it “war” or “a conflict”; Gideon Levy argued that it is neither of these things, that it is a violent occupation, nothing more

Haaretz today reports Netanyahu’s latest speech: “nothing can stop us”.

Preach The Crapen (flamboyant goon tie included), Thursday, 2 November 2023 16:03 (one year ago)

Anyway, 9000 Gazans dead today, 3 hostages returned, congrats everyone

“anti-Zionists who claim to be Jewish are as Jewish as the Westboro Baptist Church that claimed to be Christian”

I mean ... fwiw, I do think a very not insignificant number of Christians are let's just say in Westboro's ballpark, if not on the same base

symsymsym, Thursday, 2 November 2023 16:18 (one year ago)

Tbh, the biggest “holy shit what are you guys doing” anti-Semitism concern over the past week has been seeing people on social media cheering on “Yemen declares war on Israel” when it’s the Houthis declaring war, not the Yemeni gvmt, and if anybody is cheering for Houthis then we have a big fucking problem

in the larger world, the anti-semitism is probably largely being driven by people who care less about the plight of the Palestinian people and care more about being anti-semitic, and seeing an opportunity for an opening to be a bit more free with their bigotry.

This is upsetting me a lot right now. I know it sounds naïve but I was genuinely surprised at how fast people seized the opportunity to be flat out anti-Semitic. I grew up spending 1/2 the year in a mostly Jewish community in NY where I as a gentile was often the odd one out. 3 of my 5 lifelong close friends are Jewish. I said to one of them yesterday that I think I grew up in this little bubble were I didn't realize how much anti-semitism there still was out there and he was like yeah no shit you're from NY. Anyway - there are a million upsetting things (upsetting isn't anywhere near strong enough) happening right now but I have been thinking a lot about exactly this, OL. :/

it's not good. i have a friend who was indulging in some "deep thoughts" about judaism around the time kanye was on one about jewish people, and i had an instagram convo w/him re: a couple of his posts. i don't know that i reached him, but i tried. another friend (no longer a friend) started to get very alt-right and was an associate of ow3n b3njamin for awhile, a podcast comedian type guy who started to get into some anti-semitic and racist stuff a few years ago. that particular friend is long gone. he was at my wedding. he probably helped hold me up high in my chair during the hora. he just wound up being a particularly "bad actor" in life. and a pernicious influence on others.

People have truly lost their minds. I could compile dozens more links, but here's two things I ran across today without particularly looking:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jun/06/michigan-university-gaza-surveillance

https://bsky.app/profile/nerdjpg.com/post/3lqu6znzqnk2m

As much as I broadly understand the reasons for it, this constant demand for fealty to a foreign nation that is committing countless extremely public and undeniable atrocities and war crimes on a daily basis is mentally destabilizing.

And it's wild that Israel's not-even-hiding-it genocidal leaders are setting the boundaries of acceptable discourse. It's not enough for the sole Muslim candidate for NYC mayor to be manipulated into asserting that Israel has a right to exist — a pressing municipal issue ofc, and let's overlook the fact that the current mayor had a corrupt relationship with a fascist foreign regime while we're devising obvious trap questions for one candidate — he has to say he would visit Israel and Israel has the right to exist as a Jewish nation, essentially endorsing apartheid or ethnic cleansing or genocide.

Anyway, the Guardian piece on UMich hiring goons to follow students around is more disturbing (though also faintly ludicrous if you watch the videos), but idk that debate clip captures the rotten zeitgeist.

Not that this is much consolation, but the asshole University of Michigan president who instituted that surveillance regime — and disbanded the campus DEI offices — did it seemingly in part to make himself more attractive to run the University of Florida. But despite being selected by the U of Fla. And now he's out of a job, so sad.

I lean towards the latter here, though I think her unwillingness to play nice with the establishment isn't actually the much of a factor. I don't think swapping out Greta for Taylor Swift or Roger Federer would change all that much

anvil, Monday, 9 June 2025 10:06 (three weeks ago)

I probably chose an extreme example here, but I think over the 5-10 years a lot of work has gone into denigrating celebrities of all types (or, perhaps, more success has been achieved). If Roger or Taylor were to be in Greta's position, they would also automatically inherit much of the negativity created for Greta.

But the question isn't really whether it would generate a huge amount of outrage if something happened to Taylor. After all, there is already a huge amount of outrage about what is happening in Gaza. The question is whether a government would be pressured to take any action over it. 10 years ago I think the answer would be absolutely. Today? I think thats an open question

Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel, has said that the US is no longer pursuing the goal of an independent Palestinian state, marking what analysts describe as the most explicit abandonment yet of a cornerstone of US Middle East diplomacy.

Asked during an interview with Bloomberg News if a Palestinian state remains a goal of US policy, he replied: “I don’t think so.”

“Unless there are some significant things that happen that change the culture, there’s no room for it,” Huckabee was quoted as saying. Those probably won’t happen “in our lifetime”, he told the news agency.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/valedictorian-told-to-stay-home-after-making-pro-palestinian-remarks-in-grad-speech-1.5758371

The valedictorian at a west Ottawa high school says she's been told not to come to school Monday after she made pro-Palestinian remarks during a speech at her commencement ceremony.

Elizabeth Yao largely focused on highlights from the past four years at Bell High School during her speech on Thursday, including a memorable waffle fundraiser and the days spent dozing off while reading Shakespeare.

Her comments on the war in Gaza came at the end, after a land acknowledgement.

"As a commitment to truth and reconciliation, I must acknowledge colonial and genocidal atrocities today, including the massacre of more than 17,000 Palestinian children in Gaza," Yao said, breaking off as the crowd cheered.

The next day, Yao said she received a call from her principal, who said her statements had "caused harm" and told her she shouldn't come to school on Monday.

Call me naive at this point, but I am still a little perplexed at how compulsory the consensus on Israel's innocence is, that Israel must be permitted to pursue its murderous imperialism not only without hindrance but without so much as a single comment, trickling down to the absolutely powerless scene of a high school graduation in Canada. Utterly grotesque and immoral of course, but also just fucking bizarre — I'd be genuinely interested to hear of historical parallels.

Like, even actual antisemitism is protected by the 1st amendment, never mind critiques of Israel's military campaigns.

In the UK there are UNICEF TV adverts raising money for children in Gaza, do you get those in the US?

a nation committing genocide calling the *entire rest of the world* anti-semitic is rendering the term useless for actual anti-semitism, of which there is still plenty -- not least in the trump administration
