If ilx had a block feature and we used it the way these itchy block-fingered high profile guys do on x/blueski we'd quickly have no one reading our posts.

So is Bluesky just another place on the internet to argue about politics?

there’s a music critic whom i like, and whose newsletter i subscribe to, but after each new post they spend several days re-blueskying it every three hours and this annoys me far more than it should and i wish i could turn those retweets off

Not that you be should have to, but if the newsletter has a distinctive name or there's some other word they always use in the promo posts, you could try muting it. Not sure if Bluesky mute supports multiword phrases or not.

Long interview w/BS’s CEO. I only skimmed it, but found the comments interesting and on-point.

Brazil Bluesky has suddenly exploded, apparently due to a court order blocking Twitter in Brazil(?)I keep a “stan account” (sort of as a joke or diversion) that had absolutely zero going on, but was following a few dormant Brazilian fan accounts; and suddenly they sprung to life, along with a bunch of new ones, in a wave of follows and reposts. Pretty cool…

I’ve noticed I’ve blocked more people on Bluesky than I’ve blocked in the same time on other social media apps. Every week there’s some new fandom drama that brings the most unhinged takes to my timeline.
Last week was people responding to Ed Piskor’s suicide with posts like “all predators should delete themselves?” “Predators?” “Delete themselves?”
The last few weeks has made me reconsider the value of Google’s identity verification requirements for Google+. However, it’s certainly possible social media is, at the end of the day, bad.

In the final year or so that I was on Twitter, I took to using my actual photo as a pfp, and a close version of my real name – as a self-policing measure, to restrict the impulse to be unnecessarily rude, snarky, whatever. (I know that many ppl choose to be non-anonymous anyway, and many others can’t/won’t do it for safety reasons; but it “worked for me” in that respect.)

maybe the only reason civilization happened is that at some point physically you could “not be there” or could usually “walk away”? when the algorithm is feeding you terrible shit it’s hard to get away. also harder online: re-enacting that story of the Kung bushmen who surrounded a tribe member who was a relentless bad-actor and then filled him with arrows. and then had absolutely the entire community stab him for community participation. i read it an a relatively serious book didn’t check on its truth.and not that i could recommend it, mind, i def would not do.

the militarizations of fandoms via social media is wild were not quite at the level of the blue and greens in byzantium but politicians arent above appealing to taylor swift fans or whatnot

I guess the “bridge” thing with Mastodon worked… I’m seeing these “test” posts from accounts with these complex “.br.id.g” (or whatever) addendums.

Wow, you can "bridge" yr BS account to the Fediverse just by following a certain account? That's wild

I guess one caution seems to be that if you delete a BS post, it won't (yet) be deleted on the bridged ActivityPub account.

Jack Dorsey claims Bluesky is 'repeating all the mistakes' he made at Twitter
He prefers Nostr even though it’s “weird and hard to use.”

Dorsey also confirmed that he is financially backing Nostr, another decentralized Twitter-like service popular among some crypto enthusiasts and run by an anonymous founder.

I have a very narrowly curated followers list that's primarily focused on music / music writing, with a bit of local politics mixed in.
So what I can see this morning seems *completely* on-brand for BlueSky, in that I have a few posts that reference "The Discourse" and "The Bad Thing" without specifying what the fuck they're actually talking about, and then a couple of references to war profiteering and genocide without naming names.
So... looks like most any other morning on BlueSky to me.
