no judgement intended, just people are endlessly fascinating and did not realise this was such a widespread thing, I cannot imagine caring about it personally but sure there are many things I do which would be equally strange or stranger

When I had the TV on all day in my former apartment, 10 seemed like the most comfortable volume level. Not 10 out of 10 like a guitar amp, to be clear — 10 out of probably 60 or more; I never got the TV up to full volume.

because odd numbers are better. particularly fond of 17 x 3 = 51

I'm with lagoon. I wouldn't have a clue what actual number the TV/music volume is set to, it'll just be at whatever volume is appropriate for the circumstances

Absolutely shook tonight when sitting down to watch a show with my daughter, she asked me to turn the volume up and then said "You can't leave it on 17 dad, can you change it to 16 or 18"

I am normally ignorant of the numbers, but I claim a parental exception, where I put a limit on volume for my kids Bluetoothed bullshit on my cars stereo, and i say you may not go above 12 or suffer death or other worst consequences

even volume numbers really cancel out that odd harmonic distortion of the audio, really gives it the breath of life
