Chaos in the Middle East?

Oh noes

we can't have that

(Actually I do know CIA folks who opposed the Iraq war because they reasoned that Saddam was the glue holding things together.)

More free advice for the Biden re-election team: a series of “teens react to Trump” TV ads, highlighting the kinds of things the former guy says pretty much every day

The Warnock campaign pulled this maneuver on Herschel Walker

Marten Broadcloak, mild-mannered GOP congressman (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 15 March 2024 10:44 (one year ago)

Yeah, iirc it got a great response! Clips of kids mocking Trump I think would be pretty effective in our dumb social media age. Hell, clips of dogs reacting to Trump would probably work, too.

Willis ordered to step aside or dump the prosecutor

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Friday, 15 March 2024 13:08 (one year ago)

or, more explicitly, told she can stay, if she dumps the prosecutor, which I assume she will do

"Dump the Prosecutor" is my favorite Joan Armatrading song.

not the worst possible outcome but no one came out of this looking particularly good

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Friday, 15 March 2024 13:41 (one year ago)

like how are they going to enforce that? show up at her house each night and take DNA samples from clothing?

CEO Greedwagon (Neanderthal), Friday, 15 March 2024 13:55 (one year ago)

Enforce what? Taking him off the case?

President Keyes, Friday, 15 March 2024 13:56 (one year ago)

when you all said "dump" I assumed you meant like....relationship wise.

I woke up 2 minutes ago...lol

CEO Greedwagon (Neanderthal), Friday, 15 March 2024 13:56 (one year ago)

“no one came out of this looking good”

i am just going to call this what it is: a capitulation to a right-wing effort to discredit a Black woman based on her private sexual life. that’s what this has been about the entire time, and any other read of it can be safely relegated to the aforementioned capitulation

butt dumb tight my boners got boners (the table is the table), Friday, 15 March 2024 13:58 (one year ago)

tabes otm.

ultimately the result is fine in that the case will continue and Wade will just be removed but even the attempt at removing her was fucking gross.

CEO Greedwagon (Neanderthal), Friday, 15 March 2024 13:59 (one year ago)

absolutely, the entire defense team was horrific throughout this thing and it should never have happened in the first place

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Friday, 15 March 2024 14:11 (one year ago)

ts, John the Revelator vs Dump the Prosecutor.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 15 March 2024 14:14 (one year ago)

Well, here we are 235 days from the election and all the cases against Trump are barely creaking forward, so this served its purpose.

President Keyes, Friday, 15 March 2024 14:16 (one year ago)

What, this thread?

poppers fueled buttsex crescendo (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 15 March 2024 14:18 (one year ago)

Come on, it's barely been four years since the alleged crimes (that took place in real time for everybody to see and document).

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 15 March 2024 14:18 (one year ago)

Don't worry, they'll whip up a way to make sure to delay every single trial until after Election Day. That's the entire goal of the GOP at this point, it's why he took over the national committee, to try and make sure little else interferes. The party doesn't care about the long term damage to "the brand", it all exists to serve Trump and get him in office again. And the useless media will fall for their invented frenzies every. fucking. time.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 15 March 2024 14:23 (one year ago)

Relying on the justice system to stop Trump from winning in November has always been dicey at best. He needs to be beaten at the ballot (which I hope and guess I think he will).

The criminal case that will eventually get him* is the documents case.

*get him = found guilty, doubt the consequences will be severe, but absolutely would love for him to spend even minimal time in jail.

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Friday, 15 March 2024 14:53 (one year ago)

the thing is obviously the prosecutors know this too. any reason why they can't speed things up?

frogbs, Friday, 15 March 2024 14:54 (one year ago)

Jack Smith tried, but the Supreme Court said no.

President Keyes, Friday, 15 March 2024 14:55 (one year ago)

He needs to be beaten at the ballot (which I hope and guess I think he will).

The RNC abandoning mail-in voting because Trump hates it is...unwise, but welcome.

otm

I painted my teeth (sleeve), Friday, 15 March 2024 14:56 (one year ago)

The Achilles heel of the Trump campaign is probably that he actually believes all that shit about boxes of fake ballots being smuggled in at night.

President Keyes, Friday, 15 March 2024 14:58 (one year ago)

Relying on the justice system to stop Trump from winning in November

Fwiw, I'm certainly not relying on this. Was just initially hopeful he'd get smacked down with a meaningful ruling before the election. But it continues to be revealed that this is the GOP's country, we all just live (and die) in it.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 15 March 2024 15:08 (one year ago)

I actually believe he is truly dangerous and needs to be beaten at more than just the ballot box. I mean, he was beaten at the ballot box 4 years ago, and every single day he has still dominated the discourse and gained power.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 15 March 2024 15:10 (one year ago)

every single day he has still dominated the discourse and gained power

Welllll...he has "dominated the discourse" in the sense that every day there's a flood of "can you believe this fucking criminal scumbag?" stories in the majority of the press, and a bunch of North Korea-style strongman worship on Fox and the other right-wing propaganda channels. Similarly, he has "gained power" in that the Republican Party is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the Trump Corporation, but that has been totally destructive to the Republican Party and its attempts to increase its hold on Congress, pass legislation, etc., etc. So he, personally, has gained power over an organization that is spiraling to its doom precisely because he's in charge.

Tahuti Watches L&O:SVU Reruns Without His Ape (unperson), Friday, 15 March 2024 15:13 (one year ago)

Well, it buys us another four years and turns him into another two-time loser in the majority of peoples' minds. Plus I know it inflicts pain on Trump, the worst kind of pain for him, I imagine.

xp

il lavoro mi rovina la giornata (PBKR), Friday, 15 March 2024 15:13 (one year ago)

I mean ideally all this would've happened well before the primaries but now that he's the nominee it seems too late already. hell I'm kinda on the fence about whether or not a true democracy should allow you to vote a criminal in if they really want him that much. the classified docs case is pretty interesting though if indeed it's found he was *selling* these secrets, not just keeping them for fun. afaik we do still take our national security pretty seriously even if nothing else

frogbs, Friday, 15 March 2024 15:18 (one year ago)

He needs to be beaten at the ballot (which I hope and guess I think he will).

i agree that the judicial system has completely failed. but he's already been beaten at the ballot. he lost by 3 million votes in 2016, and 7 million votes in 2020.

The idea that anything is going to remove Trump and Trump-ism from our lives during our lifetimes is wishful thinking.

Biden backs Schumer after senator calls for new elections in Israel

President Joe Biden expressed support Friday for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer after the senator called for new elections in Israel, the latest sign that the U.S. relationship with its closest Middle East ally is careening toward fracture over the war in Gaza.

Schumer, a Jewish Democrat from New York, sent tremors through both countries this week when he said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has “lost his way” and warned that “Israel cannot survive if it becomes a pariah” as Palestinian casualties continue to grow.

“He made a good speech,” Biden said in the Oval Office during a meeting with Ireland’s prime minister. “I think he expressed serious concerns shared not only by him but by many Americans.”

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 15 March 2024 21:15 (one year ago)

to this day, whenever I see "Mike Johnson" I think they are talking about the guy from Dinosaur Jr and who worked with Mark Lanegan. It happened again today seeing a New Yorker email with "Mike Johnson" in the subject line. "Oh I forgot about him," I think, and click, and am instantly annoyed.

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Friday, 15 March 2024 21:40 (one year ago)

I do wonder if this is specifically because there was a mob out there trying to kill him or if it’s a sign that vanilla conservatives might not support him this time around. I know at least one guy who reluctantly voted Trump in 16 and 20 who vowed not to this go round
