If you're irrational for being angry about this then I must be irrational too. I have two bosses, two separate companies, plus another employee at one of those companies, that I still have so much anger toward. If you want to go further back I have a stepfather I haven't seen in about 35 years who is fucking lucky I live on the other side of the world because if I now, as an adult, saw him on the street, i'd rip his fucking head off.

The Red Cross is always running promotions for blood drives - a gift card with each donation, a t-shirt, etc. - but whenever I donate I'm never given the promotional offer. I know I'm not there for the shirt or whatever, and I would (and do) donate for nothing, but it still feels like a bait and switch.

a footie IA but lately every time someone gets fouled outside the box, fans of the team awarded the free kick scream "IT'S A PEN, CONTACT CONTINUED INTO THE BOX", when that would only be a pen if the player was being persistently held both outside and inside the box. incidental secondary contact in the box after the initial contact outside of the box isn't a pen.

IA in that it's meaningless thing and I can just not answer (and often don't), but anytime I get in my car, throw my tunes on, and someone calls me twenty seconds into the first song.

"We are currently experiencing a higher than normal call volume". Don't fucking lie to me, motherfuckers. Do NOT. FUCKING. LIE TO ME. I know what the fuck you're doing, you know what the fuck you're doing, you don't need to lie about it, because what the fuck can I do about it? C'mon. That's just insulting.

i’m getting more & more irrationally angry at 30-something podcasters who seem to have an entire ouevre of talking about things I love but were too young to experience & so they’re going to tell it all back to me like a game of telephone

this is my own fault for listening too far too many podcasts than is healthy

but omg

an episode about Kathleen Hannah’s memoir that starts with “we were too young for Riot Grrl! our girl power was Britney & Spice Girls…”

THE WAY I SMASHED THAT DELETE BUTTON OMG

Riot Grrl was several years earlier than the Spice Girls

bae (sic), Thursday, 23 May 2024 08:55 (four months ago) link

Bikini Kill’s first record was 1990 (checked), Bratmobile had recordings out in 1991, Huggy Bear’s first was 1992 (clearly burnt into brain)

bae (sic), Thursday, 23 May 2024 09:00 (four months ago) link

Riot Grrrl (three Rs, take note) UK was over by the time Elastica started getting hyped - I remember a Bratmobile show in London where Frischmann and her friends (various Blur girlfriends before Jo from Huggy Bear started an LTR with Graham Coxon) turned up with crossed-arms body language and new haircuts.

A lot of fanzine kids (my peers, although I never did my own zine because I was employed as a music writer within a year of leaving uni) started Riot Grrrl in the US; the dedicated zines and Bikini Kill’s first recordings came out in 1991 - the Revolution Girl Style Now cassette. The first group not of the scene to co-opt RG was probably Shampoo, who ran a Manics fanzine (so not too far off, really). They had a Girl Power single before the future Spice Girls answered the help aanted ads in The Stage.

when someone comes to you to say they're having problems logging in and the error message specifically states "incorrect user name or password". like...it means what it says, what am I going to do other than tell you "reset your password, doofus"

a client attending an event yesterday asked me
(ie me who is importantly *not at the event*), why his badge had incorrecr info on it

i’m like, sir i dont know why but i recommend that you TELL THE EVENT STAFF and get them to print you a new badge

like i understand your need to trumpet to everyone that something was screwed up but this email is just an inefficient use of everyone’s time

Blame Wufoo or whatever on those name badges.

Sometimes, I'll be given a spreadsheet of fields and asked to generate hundreds of nametags with Adobe macros — {FIRST NAME} {LAST NAME} • {TITLE}, {BUSINESS NAME}.

But then, I have to go back through there and correct the names that are in ALL CAPS, or make consistent someone who works for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and one who works for the F.B.I., etc.

And with some of them, I just let Providence ride it on out.

I've been going through this process with my water company for awhile.

1.) Enter username or register an account. Okay, let's register an account.

2.) That email address is already connected to an account. Fine, then. I'll reset the password.

3.) The email address you entered is not in our system. Please register an account.

I wound up having to call on an actual telephone to hear what my balance was and then pay through my bank's website.

pplains, Friday, 28 June 2024 20:59 (three months ago) link

yeah i've had that happen on 2 or 3 sites and could not get it resolved, I think Afterpay was the last company I had that problem with.

perpetually awkward, perennially unhappy (Neanderthal), Friday, 28 June 2024 21:01 (three months ago) link

speaking of fucked up badges, the people who process new hires used macros to create like 500 new accounts back in 2022....and one of them fucked the source document up and deleted an isolated cell, so the first names were now no longer in alignment with the last names, and they ran it, and so everybody had an email address that had their first name and someone else's last name.

then they just said "oh well the way the cookie crumbles we'll fix it in 5 days or 240, just apologize to them on my behalf til we get it fixed"

The reappearance of whatever the video feature of RYM is. Seems to crop up randomly and block text I'm trying to read. I thought they'd stopped using it cos I remember it being annoying a few years ago. Po9ssibly I just got a stronger ad or pop up blocker that is no longer blocking it.Mobile version seems to skip it.
